  • The guy standing on the clay side of the court would have HUUUUGE advantage.

  • i get what they were trying to do here, but this setup doesnt make sense. rafa is good on clay b/c the rallies last longer and the game is slower, so he is able to use his stamina to his advantage, as well as his topspin to create angles on a surface where you can't hit outright winners as easily as others. Fed is good on grass b/c his hard-flat forehand moves quicker on the grass surface which enhances his game. it doesnt matter what surface theyre standing on, but whats on the other side.

  • @F1shguy Excellent point and great insights into each player's strengths.

  • @F1shguy It still does, because they switch sides!

  • @F1shguy yeah but it's cool

  • They should of kept Nadal on the clay side and Fed on the grass side.

  • hu won this mach??

  • @daveforsrilanka Rafa Nadal

  • Whoever was on the clay side had a massive advantage - grass had only disadvantages.

  • stupid Spain's idea

  • @overratednadal actually it was an argentinian idea, just so you know before insulting ;)

  • @overratednadal son of a bitch

  • @overratednadal stupid idea simply, dont say stupid things

  • ideia ridiculo do espanhol...

  • u cant put nadal on a clay surface and federer on a grass surface its not fair because nadal can serve faster on federer's side and vice versa because grass courts has faster serves unilke clay which serves are slower than any other courts especially the french open clay.

  • @Hadidi89 its even bro lol

  • @Hadidi89 Feder wan to play on grass, and Nadal on clay surface

  • @Hadidi89 Players change sides in tennis. So it was not partial to anybody.

  • woww that is siiickkk

  • yeah well it same for both players stop yaking on you bunch of federer lovers it was same. nadal had to be on that side aswell

  • Who does the court favor when Nadal is on grass and Fed on clay? How about the reverse?

  • @lostn65 The court favors Nadal when Federer is on Clay due to the way the ball bounces on clay and how Nadal hits it. It's vice versa when Nadal is on Grass though as the way Federer plays works better on grass. Guess the they both have an advantage at the same time.

  • 2 things.

    1. this was on spain.

    2. look the difference between the quality of the grass and clay court.

    man this completly sucks.

  • number 1 rafaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • bad court. in spain

  • @federerbestclass would you freaken shut up. Your just crying cause fed lost. your getting on everyones nerves. so just please do everyone a favor and shut up.

  • @pablyto18

you're a dumbass. why should federer have had beaten rafa in the french?

he wasn't good enough to advance to the final. the best player in the upper half was soderling in that tournament and he lost to federer. end of story.

federer is the best, that's why he won 16 majors. and who cares about a h2h?

rafter had a 2-0 record against federer, but none says that he's better than roger

  • Roger is true class, Love Roger

  • they should do this competition again.

  • time for a quarter clay, quarter grass, quarter carpet, quarter hard court ^^

  • What a doubles match that would be =D!

  • Roger Federer. Grand slam title 15 1st place

  • so cool.. i remember when this event was being hyped... it just looks soo neat!

nadal did win this exhibition.. but its funny "king of grass" vs "king of clay".. and now nadal won wimbledon and federer won the french hahahaha.. either way, this exhibition was nice to watch!

  • nadal didnt win Wimby this year wth r u talking about..

  • did he say this year? READ STUPID FUCK!

  • Anyone notice how poor quality the grass side was? lol

  • @mavsfan1000 it was probably artificial grass, not natural grass like wimbledon.

  • nadal vs federer goooooooooooooooooood

  • now that. is just beast :D

  • so why is the court half grass half clay?

  • because Nadal is best on clay and Federer is best on grass so this court was made to 'prove' who was better

  • oh. do you no who won?

  • I think Nadal won, you can see him win the last point at 1:05 during the clip

  • Nadal won in 5 or 3 sets cant remember

  • no dude its made in spain

  • hahaha this video has been taken from a neews program of argentina (i know this because i am argentinian)

And the idea of a semi clay. semi grass court is of an argentinian =)

  • clay suits nadal because he has a very strong groundstoke, and he can still generate speed on slow surfaces unlike others. Fed likes grass because his game is more techniqal and the grass keeps the ball moving quickly

  • no, clay suit nadal because he has fast feet and cover most of the court not because he has a good ground stroke. Nadal's ground stroke is slow, but bounce high. Federer like grass court becuase not only his game is techniqal but also his ground stroke is very fast, when federer play in clay court, clay court slows federer ground stroke down.

  • Don't think that mixed court thing works like that XD Rafa likes clay because it's slower, so he can just do what he does best (counterpunching). Whereas Federer prefers grass because it's faster, and much easier to produce winners on.

    ^ ^

  • if you notice, whoever played in clay won the point in this vid

  • They also changed shoes during changeovers

  • Conan The Barbarian + Metrosexuality = Nadal

  • pinches argentinosssssssssssss!!! SIEMPRE TAN AGRANDANDOS!!

  • this would suck cause the clay would make them slip on the grass and it did

  • I've never played on grass :-(

only clay and synthetic hard courts.

  • Personally, I think whoever is on the clay is most likely to win the point. The ball bounces slower in your half, so you can hit it really hard onto the grass, where the bounce is quicker.

  • they switched side...you know, like in a regular game.

  • I know, but whoever is on the clay still holds the advantage.

  • but doesn't the spin also take more effect on clay once the ball bounces?

  • Higher, slower bounce gives the player more time to play their shot

  • Ya but if its higher you cant get as much of a powerful shot as if its in the middle of your body or around that area you can get a much more powerful and accurate shot.

  • LOL u serious? what if it comes high and fast with topspin, o[pposed to at ur waste where u can swing

  • My favorite matches are Nadal vs Federer. They are the best.(actually its Nadal and Lopez)

  • The advantage is surely with the player in the clay half of the court, as their balls will bounce slower and higher??

Hell I'm just confused, and I don't this court "proves" anything.

  • who won??

  • nadal

  • I love Nadal, but he looked like Lucy Liu in that mugshot!

  • lmfao! I noticed :P

  • that would be insane to play on. i wish i could have watched it

  • holy shit, thats cool

  • nadals the best

  • rafa won!

  • they should hav atleast shown the match on the tennis channel or espn it never aired u can buy it on dvd i think but thats a waste of money

  • Holy motha fuck hey they should make 1/4 carpet, 1/4 hard/ 1/4 clay, /1/4 grass just a thought

  • hahahhaah

    seeeeee

    ajajajajjaja

    imbeciles argentinos

  • q bacan, de donde eres?

  • I think the battle of the surfaces now should be one side clay and the other side carpet. Grass favors Nadal's style as well. :D

  • This whole thing makes NO SENSE!! Nadal needs his opponent to be on clay for his game to work best. He needs the clay to kick the ball high up around Federer's shoulders. If you really wanted to do it right, Nadal should hit from the grass side, and Roger on the clay side... but then even that wouldn't work, because Federer's game is best suited for a surface with some grip, which clay doesn't have.

  • They switch sides, you moron.

  • u switch round every few games. the whole point of the match was so they could see who adapts better

  • this court cost 1.63 million dollars

  • who won the match

  • Nadal won it!

  • Unfortunately

  • Yes but they spend equal time on grass and clay, therefore no one has the overall advatage!

  • yeah thats exactly what i was thinking, they should've just stayed on their respective surfaces.

  • well not necissarily with the earths tilt on its axis ther is no way of telling who spent more time where ,especially considering the rises in inflation and global warming !!!

  • what

  • I think its esier on the clay side beacuse the ball bounce farly high, and then its just to smash the ball down on the grass where it dosent bounce so much.

I wish it was me on that funny court! ^^

  • WOW THE QUALITY

  • this win doesnt proved anything

did anybody see the last point

    the surface was clearly bad

not only the last point the players had to struggle with the bad surface through out the match

  • equal, fed great on grass, nadal great on clay, both mixed then theyre totally equal

  • i'm sure they're not totally equal... the person on the clay side recieves balls that bounce high and slow and can just smash the ball right by the person on the grass side.

  • its fair, one is better then the other in some way, they both have wat they want so its fair, thats like sayin gsomeone isfaster then someone who has more power, the faster person can move faster but its still fair cuz its their advantage, its not his fault he doesnt have power

  • yes it should defintly have been a draw thus granting mardy fish the number 1 ranking !!!!!

  • THEY'RE BOTH EQUAL. Federer is known to play well in grass while Nadal in clay. There was really no advantage since they're good on those courts and plus they switch courts to so it becomes fair...

    Nadal deserved it!!!!

  • This was a bizarre match. I agree that the player standing on the clay side has an advantage, but Nadal does seem to have Federer's number anyway, even on a grass court - he proved that by pushing him hard in the Wimbledon final. Federer's still the better player though, he only needs three more slams to equal Sampras' record. If one of those three is the French Open, he will be the greatest ever.

  • How can you say Nadal has Federer's number when Federer has a winning record on non-clay surfaces??

  • I was simply saying that Nadal is the only other player who is equal to Federer's ability and therefore the only one who can consistently push him hard enough to trouble him. Nadal has a winning record in overall meetings, so in that respect, Nadal does have his number. However, if you read the comment carefully, you would have seen that I acknowledge Federer is still the better player, his record of 11 grand slams to Nadal's 3 proves that.

  • no comprende'

  • this is stupid, whoever is standing on clay has a huge advantage. if they played this 5 times fed would win 4

  • no he wouldn't. that's not logical.

they switch between sets, so this was fair.

  • sorry, i wasn't clear in my previous statement. I meant that this match doesn't prove rafa is the better of the two, (assuming they tried their hardest, which they didnt) because whichever one was standing on clay at any moment in the match would have the upper hand, and it would balance out anyway (like you said)

  • No no, although I prefer Nadal over Federer, I don't believe that he the better of the two.. Yet. One match does not prove anything. I agree.

It is over the course of a year on all surfaces that will result on finding the better of the two.

  • I'm not too familiar with tennis surfaces. Why is there an advantage in clay? Is it because there's more traction?

  • it is due to the fact, like throwing a ball at sand, when the ball hits the clay some of the force is transferred and the ball travels slower. this generally makes the ball easier for one to hit. also, on grass the ball skids and minimal force is transferred to the ground from the ball. you can see how the combination of the two would make it a greater advantage for the person standing on clay

  • As I think about it the grass dampens the bounce so the ball goes dead and gives the player less time to hit it.

  • At the same time, you can get a ball to hop much higher hitting it onto a clay surface. That's why Federer has such a hard time against Nadal on clay. Nadal gets the ball up high where Federer has a much harder time hitting it.. especially backhand.

  • this is the way it should be.. rafa beating federer.. i like it... does that mean rafa's better then federer???? YESS!! AND THEY DIDN'T NEED TO HAVE THAT MATCH TO PROVE IT!! VAMOS!

  • Bravo!!!!

  • pobre pene.

  • weird
