For freedom of religion under Islamic rule, I read a book about the religious history of Albania. When they became part of the Ottoman Empire, after a comparably short time big parts of the population were Muslims. Why? Every non-Muslim had to pay high extra taxes, had lesser rights than Muslims and so forth. Young non-Muslim men were taken away from their families to become Janissaries. And of course, apostasy means death under Sharia law. Freedom of Faith?

Janissaries have to do with Islam that these (mainly Christian) boys were taken away from home on a very young age and made soldiers for the Ottoman Empire. Of course it's not in the Quran or Sunnah (yet slaves totally are in there, Muhmmad made hundreds of them), but you wrote about countries under Islamic rule. For slavery: the little difference is that Christians making slaves act against their faith/what Jesus said (love your neighbor) while Muhammad himself made hundreds of them. The good treatment is another myth - read some hadith. E.g. Sahih Muslim Book 8, Hadith 3371 says female ones even got raped "legally"...So the Sunnah allows it.
I can say slavery is wrong and be consistent with Christianity - you can't do so for Islam.

For freedom of religion under Islamic rule, I read a book about the religious history of Albania. When they became part of the Ottoman Empire, after a comparably short time big parts of the population were Muslims. Why? Every non-Muslim had to pay high extra taxes, had lesser rights than Muslims and so forth. Young non-Muslim men were taken away from their families to become Janissaries. And of course, apostasy means death under Sharia law. Freedom of Faith?

Janissaries have to do with Islam that these (mainly Christian) boys were taken away from home on a very young age and made soldiers for the Ottoman Empire. Of course it's not in the Quran or Sunnah (yet slaves totally are in there, Muhmmad made hundreds of them), but you wrote about countries under Islamic rule. And that's an example were people haven't been asked if they, or in that case their children, wanted to become Muslims.

For slavery: the little difference is that Christians making slaves act against their faith/what Jesus said (love your neighbor) while Muhammad himself made hundreds of them. The good treatment is another myth - read some hadith. E.g. Sahih Muslim Book 8, Hadith 3371 says female ones even got raped "legally"...So the Sunnah allows it.
I can say slavery is wrong and be consistent with Christianity - you can't do so for Islam.

- sex with female war captives ("excellent arab women")
- although the soldiers doing so already were married ("missed their wives")
- these war captives were meant to be sold on after it ("we desired ransom" - that's why the Muslims didn't want to make them pregnant, less money for pregnant slaves)
That at least implies rape.

There may not be a caliphate, but that does not change that fact that most laws in Saudi Arabia are straight out of the shariah. Beheading people who are "sorcerers" (using what scientific proof?), the permission for a husband 2 beat his wife 2 punish her (but she has no such 'right'). A woman's testimony is worth half that of a man, she doesnt even inherit the same as a man. Muslim nations created the Scientific Revolution that eventually swept into Europe; Muslims then promptly forgot about it (a little harsh since Muslims were also expelled from Spain). I suggest you take a look at the 1001inventions.dot.com website. The very reason Muslims had the Scientific Revolution in the first place was because of religious reasons - to seek knowledge. :)
