  • I know Sessler Wrecking uses barges underneath the

bridge so that all the debris doesn't go into the water.

  • I was thinking, 'Now how are they going to get rid of all that trash?', but then I found out it was actually recovered and recycled.

  • My birthday!! WOOP WOOP!

  • my favorite part was when the jamestown bridge was demolished

  • bridge go boom. XD

  • so whats there now?!

  • Hey Wheezy! This is a video of that time that they exploded a giant bridge near my house. It was very loud...

its in slowmo at the end!

  • Abracadabra, Poof!!!

  • Cool but.....now, there's an entire bridge in the water.

  • thats sad That was history they just demolition and they dont care!!!

  • this is whats going to happen to the oakland bay bridge when they finish with the new oakland bay bridge.

  • i live near there

  • @camden199 lol me to

  • that is so cool!

  • what is grimy is that there gonna leave all the debris down there

  • I miss the slipping and jutting sideways when driving on that bridge. You could see the bay through the metal grid, which enhanced the pychological effect.

  • I grew up in Newport and haven't been back for years...I can always remember when i was a little kid going to visit relatives hvaing to drive over this bridge,,,Stuff of nightmares...It was so high and only 2 lanes i think, quite terrifying...

I rermember when there was a ferry before the Newport bridge went up, and what a difference there was drivingor that it was a pleasure a relief... Anyone else remember?

  • @grebel82 mhm i do. i also still live near there, so i know exactly what you're talking about

  • They left the trusses in the water for a reef for the fishies. Isn't that sweet!!

  • Now thats what i call job satisfaction.

  • WOW the memories i had with that bridge!

  • 3,2,1... Happy Death Day To You...

  • wow thats cool

  • It looks cool when it explodes, the sparks go off at the same time, then whoosh, smokes making a cool effect look-alike of the bridge :)

  • Rhode Island DOT proposed selling the bridge to a motion picture company to blow it up for a movie, but got no takers. Such a company would have had to pay the cost of the demolition.

  • It looked like the actual bridge was untouched :P

    Real clean

  • R.I.P. to all of the fish that lost their lives that day.

  • yup i remember that day... was on a simple lil vacation from western ma. and saw the signs and decided to check it out... it was pretty cool i must say

  • R.I.P.

  • woah i feel so old now, 3 years ago i was on the bus and spacing out at the bridge/water with my cd player on full blast :/

nk and jamestown are both heading torwards a disaster now too

  • dead fishys :D

  • Oh man! This is 2 years ago.

I wanted to move to Rhode Island, I will, one day, this is sad, did they electrify the bridge? Amazing.

Thank you for the video. <3

  • what happens to all the metal in the water?

poor birds sitting on the water under the bridge, or the fish (if there were any)

  • cool

  • 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, happy new year!

  • i wonder how many fishes that got crushed haha

  • Hah, they knew they were getting an audience -- didn't need quite that much of the boom-boom, but it looks nice. Of course, they also probably wanted to go ahead and break up the structure a bit to facilitate cleanup (much easier to blow it into pieces than to cut underwater), but I'll just call it showmanship lol.

  • Why did he say "blast" after one? U can hear someone laughing at , he he...

  • no the guy that said blast cleared his throat

  • The debris was cleaned up. It took about a year to complete the cleanup because they had to remove the cement pillars also.

  • now i bet they didnt go in the water and clean up after!! nobody gives a shit really and america is the number 1 example of that...i dont hug trees or save the whales but our tax money is spent on that and fuck me if im paying for it id rather see it taken down efficiently with minimal harm to the enviroment.....

  • Perhaps you should check your facts before commenting.

All of the steel in the bridge was collected and recycled. The concrete spans were taken to two off-shore locations to create artificial reefs.

  • @richreynolds you tell em lol

  • @brybc4 the only damage it caused was sending radiation into the atmosphere

  • @brybc4 i live there and its all gone like it wasnt there, way to sound like a big guy saying they dont care about anything, dont talk shit if you cant back it up

  • cool...i like how you can see the outline of the bridge in smoke when it first blows up.

  • i remember when that bridge was still in use and i remember driving over it.. i also remember skipping school 2 years ago to watch it go down w/ a boom , t'was a day i will not forget

  • they missed :) only the upper structure falled, but the actual bridge is still in place. what a loss of money

  • Erm... that's a different bridge behind the old one.

  • it was proably not safe enough

  • There's already a newer bridge in place. Construction started in 1985, and it opened in 1992.

There's a great side by side shot of the two bridges at Art In Ruin. Google "jamestown bridge" and it should be the first hit below the images.

  • Glad to see that POS go.

  • About F'n time! How long has this monstrosity been rotting away? Rhode Island doesn't do good with bridges. For instance it has taken this long to replace the connectors between Barrington & Warren.

  • down she booom!!!

  • we just love to blow things up now dont we =D

  • NICE!!!!!! Never seen anything like that before...
