But then you had bands that at least tried to broaden their style. For example, Cinderella made HEARTBREAK STATION, which was heavily influenced by the Stones, T.Rex, Humble Pie and Aerosmith. Glam / pop metal was a cancer of bubblegum crap. All preservatives, all sickly sweetness, all calories and no substance, no redeeming qualities. It was a corporate and media driven destructive force on all REAL, GOOD, rock and roll. At least some grunge bands could play decently. Glam sucks and it always has.
I used to criticize Glam/Hair Metal before, but seriously, many of these bands created great music and made (and still make) lots of people have fun around the world. Many of them still tour, release albums and they don't give a fuck if they don't make a lot of money, which seems to be one of the biggest "concerns" of Penelope Spheeris in this movie. There are lots of suit-and-tie guys who make lots of money and are the unhappiest bastards in this world.

The reason of focusing too much on glam scene in this documentary is bcs it was the height of glams popularity(early 88) when this was released. its like headbangers journey doc. focusing too much on cookie-monster bands. You can see that bands started to focus too much on sex and image which was paralel to hedonist culture of the 80s .

You really think all thrash bands are different? Aside from these wanna-bes most hair metal bands can have influences ranging from blues, classical, southern rock, metal, etc. Every thrash band has the same sound. Heavy, loud, aggresive, and if thats your thing then go for it, but dont say hair metal has no variety...

Glam / pop metal was a cancer of bubblegum crap. All preservatives, all sickly sweetness, all calories and no substance, no redeeming qualities. It was a corporate and media driven destructive force on all REAL, GOOD, rock and roll. At least some grunge bands could play decently. Glam sucks and it always has.

I used to criticize Glam/Hair Metal before, but seriously, many of these bands created great music and made (and still make) lots of people have fun around the world. Many of them still tour, release albums and they don't give a fuck if they don't make a lot of money, which seems to be one of the biggest "concerns" of Penelope Spheeris in this movie. There are lots of suit-and-tie guys who make lots of money and are the unhappiest bastards in this world.

oh and lets remember what happened to 'big four' in the 90s: metallica=became a pop/grunge band, did make-up and kissed each other on lips(kirk and lars), anthrax=invented this rap-metal shit which lead to the creation of nu-metal crap, megadeth=gone almost hard rock, then made a techno/rock album(risk), slayer= changed their style to almost hardcore. The reason of focusing too much on glam scene in this documentary is bcs it was the height of glams popularity(early 88) when this was released. its like headbangers journey doc. focusing too much on cookie-monster bands. I think this doc. does a good job on showing the ups and downs of the 80s metal scene. You can see that bands started to focus too much on sex and image which was paralel to hedonist culture of the 80s .
