We used trawlers to stop it.
And the US knew the waters were contested for. Whether they were EEZ or international I won't dispute, it's a matter of perspective.
But the bottom line is that the US knew the Chinese position on it's soverignity but yet still is challenging it.

The Americans have carriers based in Japan. Which are also nuclear armed. They have nuke armed subs in our backyard too. We don't go around calling it a crisis. The US is stronger than us. They'll just say we're doing communist propaganda.
And China is surrounded. The US has their largest projection force outside China's doorstep. Not to mention the other carriers they send for patrols apart from the George Washington.

Talking about the 1989 protest isn't going to get you any credit with anyone. My mother was in the protests. She still remains patriotic. She said at the time many of the students didn't know what they were protesting for. Some even suspected US (CIA) involvement like the tibetan uprising.

What I said was just a fact. If you have not seen one, pay a visit. At least Japan's infrastructure is much better than China. Yes, we owe them a lot of money. But, American companies also have a lot of investment in China and we license our technologies to China so that some high tech stuff can be made over there. Don't forget that China has an export economy and it is driven by foreign investments. You are only thinking one-way.

China is not the only country with a thriving economy. It's being 30 years since China opened its economy, and sooner or later it's gonna to reach a saturation point in which significant economic growth is hard to achieve. At that point, American companies can invest anywhere in which the market is thriving but not yet saturated. Also, with China's rising labor cost, it would be harder for foreign companies to make profit in China.

Also, it is the British that made what HK is today, not the Chinese. Just because UK handed HK to China, it does not mean the Chinese gov't should automically take all the credits. Please get it right. If you are proud of HK's economic achievements, at least thank the British because they governed it for almost 100 years before they handed it back to China. If HK were ruled by the current Chinese gov't, it won't have today's economic status in the world. It would take longer for that to happen.

A huge population for ANY country is a burden, not a plus, for the economy. A moderate population, not too large and not too small is the key. According to IMF, in 5 years, US per capita will jump from 46000 to the mid 50000. China will jump from the 6000 range to 9000 something. That's more realistic.

China relys on US for its economic growth because the US is the biggest buyer, not the Chinese consumers or any other country. So, if US's economy is in recession, meaning less purching power, factories in China will have to start closing down because there are not enough orders to keep them running. Hence, lay-off for the Chinese workers. Most Chinese companies are only "contractors" for big American companies. They don't do development or research.
