I'm a baggage handler at Gatwick (which is in England for you Yanks) and for all those saying use a belt to unload a plane are mad. It is not necessary. One in the hold chucking the bags to the hatch, two on the lorry stacking - simple. Why do you think it is called a Belt LOADER, not unloader? Use gravity to unload...belts when you're going against gravity. We are hitting the busy season here now and we have 35 minutes to unload 150-240 bags and reload the same on some planes (A320s).
if I had the chance i would feed each of these workers through the Jets engine and shred them into pieces and collect them as memorabilia from the other end !!
i dont see the problem? i used to be a baggage handler at heathrow, if you dont want it broke, carry it with you. there should only be clothes in them suitcases anyway!
@rawchicken123 if I had the chance i would feed each of these workers through the Jets engine and shred them into pieces and collect them as memorabilia from the other end !!
@rogueshark I think, that IS the problem. I don't think the baggage handler's attitude should be that the person should 'expect' their luggage to be broken if they utilize the system created for handling their luggage.
Those things are really cramped and hot... not to mention how many bags they end up moving a day... so I don't blame them. You shouldn't put anything fragile in there anyway, unless you label it.
i agree with jsoul556. its a tight schedule with airlines, there very rarely pleased. passengers have themselves to blame for this, if they didnt complain about late bags then we could spend more time unloading the bags with care.
I agree with the comments posted above...pack your bags better because you know how they handle your luggage. They're loading and unloading hundreds of bags per flight and are always on a tight schedule to do so. If the bags are thrown around, people complain. If the bags take too long to come out at the baggage claim, people complain. It's a no win situation for baggage handlers yet they're always the ones taking the heat for "mistreating" luggage.
pck your bags better ... ffs, people pay huge amounts of airport fees , they should be bringing their A game , maybe security woulod be better if they got more staff and some proper supervision , the amount of stuff that goes missing is unbelievable .. and i am not talking about the dreade terminal 5
@jsoul556 Yea ive been doin this for 3 years now. ur always getting fuked over. Plus Lets see those fat cunts get off there ass to load and unload 3 tonnes of bags and cargo in 30mins
hahahaand people complain when their bags are overweight...well they can get up there in the pit of the aircraft and try and lift 200 bags per flight that weigh 45 50 lbs with your back...wouldnt be so bad if you could stand up in there but you cant so you have to use your back.
I worked for southwest and its just how it is, if you had to unload 100 bags then load another 100. would you just set each one down all nice like? No You destroy as fast fast possible
i hear you loud and clear,i work for us airway and we have to do the same thing, especially when we have a turn around like unload the bags and turn around and load all in 30 min flat.well sometime the time is like that.
If they were to take their time and be careful, then you would just complain about how long it takes to get your baggage off the plane!

If they use right equipment this will never happen . In this case Belt loader must be use offloading bags not the truck

you are seeing the gentle stuff - the hold is cramped and moving baggage to the door is not easy as putting it on the lorry! A size 12 boot helps.
