  • Thank you for the video. I just did the same fix but I used Lepage plastic wood it was only

$6.95 Canadian for a 235 ml can. I didn't use the screw just the fiber glass tape. Turns out i didn't even need the tape . The plastic wood stuck to the door very well and is very solid. It took less then one minute to do and looks like i may get away with only one coat.

  • good vid your real easy to listen to and pay attention to.

  • Maybe if the hole is not too big and the wood is still attached at the back of the hole - give it a try its a good thing to learn

  • i wish i could be able to do this with my hallow door. i punched straight through it and the hole is about the shape of a coconut and the exit wound or so is massive lol.

so much joint compound used in a day lol

  • nice work, but after that how we ganna paint the door to hide that white spot, i don't wanna use white paint, just wanna keep the wood color looking ? thanks for the info.

  • i accidently punctured the door, after getting mad.

there's more than one hole, and the holes aren't as clean as that.

    it's more screwed up..

    what do i do?

  • I love this approach. It looks doable, thanks. I have one question though. When you paint it, do you use a color or stain? All our doors are stained, and to have one painted wouldn't match. Is there a way to do it with a nice stain? It would also be great if you could show the painting part. How do you paint a door without taking it off?

  • great vid..what were the screws n tape for though?

  • how would you do a whie door

  • hey question: how can i repair and blend in cat scratches in the side of a hollow core door? idk if simply staining it will work after i putty the area. it NEEDS to blend in because its in my apt which i am renting otherwise i gotta replace the entire door. thanks.

  • Question? Why didn't you just screw the screws in and pull them out a little bit so that you dont have to go through as much filler?

  • UR VIDEO SAVED MY LIFE I LOVE YOU I KICKED A WHOLE IN MY DOOR AND MY MOM WOOD HAVE BEEN PISSED

  • i punched a huge hole in my door and i have to fix it :D

  • I've got the same door. Did you/can you paint it to match the rest of the door?

  • very helpfull advice!!! cheers!!!

  • what is the name of white thing????

  • Hello, thanks for the video, I found it very usefull because I have got the same problem with exactly the same door that I am in my flat and same paint colour too.

I was wondering what colour are you using on this door on your video. Thank you

  • @fatihozenFB - I was just using a semi gloss off white after priming

  • Or you could use a two part filler that would dry in less than 10 minutes (plus be a stronger reepair). Or don't you have that in the US yet?

We only just recently got paint rollers, but then you know that!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @danzeyboy - good one, thanks for watching man :)

  • how do you patch a fist sized hole? cant you buy a wooden type of paper that requires u not to have to paint it????

  • @lukeduke711 - I do not really know of anything like that. You can put a whole new skin (that is a sheet of wood about 1/8 inch thick) on the door - not a simply DIY. - At that point you almost should just have the door replaced.

  • Also, the primer + mud + sanding block + brush or roller + paint is a lot more expensive

  • @maw8908 - yes - the way to do this right is the replace the whole door. But for 90% of people replacing the door themselves is not easy. Sure a new slab door costs $29 but have you ever tried hauling one home in a Civic (plus you got to haul away the old one)? If you can't install it yourself your looking at $50 to $80 to have it installed.

Filling it is an easy DIY for somebody.

  • 15$ sanding block? what country are you in

  • Did I say $15 - more like $4 to $8

  • There's this amazing new product.

Actually, several manufacturers produce it, and in times past individuals made their own.

It is commonly referred to as "wood putty".

You might deign to check it out..

  • the wood putty I know of will crack if not reinforced with fiberglass tape and its pretty thick stuff to use the tape with. So I stick with drywall mud. Putty would work fine with smaller holes.

  • @toucandiy

    Greetings, toucndiy.

Even the cheap Elmer's wood putty, if applied properly, does NOT crack. Obviously, if the hole is large, you'll use a mesh tape on the inside of the hole. You would need to do the very same thing with joint compound.

Moreover, if the hole is exceptionally large, using the "two-step" wood putty (mix and apply, screed then sand) would be the only alternative to replacing the door.

Advantages? Stainable, if one desires to keep the wood tone of the luan,

  • Good vid. But what kind of paint do you use to paint a door like that? Is there a special kind?

  • @Kalatos - sand it lightly. Use an oil based primer as the paint on the door may be oil or water based - do not use a water based primer (that is if the primer says it can be cleaned up using soap and water then it is water based). They may try to sell you a water based primer and claim it works well over oil based finishes but it will not. After you prime it you can use oil or latex paint.

  • what are you using to fill in the hole?

  • @BroWnBoYPrOduCtioNs Just regular drywall filler.

  • thanks alot buddy id be in major trouble from my mom if i didnt fix the hole in the door i made

  • Bless You
