Right I'm booking my ticket to the Large Magellanic Cloud, some say it's a backwater but our neighbourhood is going pear shaped, followed by singularity shaped.
2 Billion years till it happens eh? Well 2 billion years is surely enough time for humanity to colonise in other galaxies. Unless we kill eachother off in the mean time.
LISTEN THIS IS WAT HAPPENS U DONT KNO THIS THERE IS ANOTHER DIMENSION WHEN YOU DIE YOU GO TO A DIFFERENT GALAXY EACH GALAXY YOU ARE TESTED (LIFE) ONCE U DIE AND YOU HAVE ARRIVED AS NEW LIFE ON A NEW PLANET, YOU WILL HAVWE NO MEMORY OF YOUR PAST LIFE NONE AT ALL,SOME SEE GOUING CENILE IS THE BEGGING TO A NEW LIFE.
cool maybe we dont have to go the speed of light to visit the next galaxy lol maybe we can warn them! jk im not a scientist so i know nothing until they repeat what i say.
@AdamLawrence1992 How would we be living on a planet in another galaxy? Not only would you need to find a planet that exhibits all the correct conditions for life (there are LOTS of things to consider), but you'd also need to be able to get to that planet. If light takes billions of years to get to/ from another galaxy to us, then how would we possibly get there, or even close, in the human lifespan?
i bet some asshole leader will go berserk with nukes on day against the US, and they will respond, and we will be unable to go out to the greater space. Gooo mankind!
Are all astronomers that weird? Our whole galaxy is going to collide with another to be disassembled with the chance of a violent explosion.... but man will it look pretty!
Actually. Our solar system will leave the galaxies when they collide before the black hole spews out gamma ray. we will drift off till we get in a new galaxy
@MultiGTAgames what are you responding too? lol i didnt say that bit about astronomers being weird i was trying to quote somebody. lol. I am in school to be an astronomer. :)
@OrgasmoDivine I'm a 50 year old astronomy astrophotography rock and roll buff - This astronomy group is diverse as hell, geeks and freaks! My friends cant figure me out and think I'm some closet genius because I can take a picture of the sky with my scopes. I'm just a night owl with a bad habit of spending money on hobbies that I'll never figure out. Hey if you are not on the Cloudy Nights Foum already then join up, its an excellent well rounded group w/ mix of nasa types and average joes.
13 billion year old universe 4 1/2 billion year old earth.. 2 billion year to galactic collision.. add up all the numbers using my special calculator from best buy = 666
we have seen about 0.1% of the galaxies that surround us. we have found that one of them in the hundreds of thousands is heading towards us. if my calculations are correct, at least 1,000 galaxies are heading our way, all at different rates. or at least that is what is most likely...
I call shotgun of the spaceship we'll board when we leave Earth!
Oh-kay, so I'll be dead by then... then I speak on behalf of my future generations!
XD
Btw just to let you guys know, most of the human race will be wiped out when the massive volcano in yellowstone national park erupts. It is now 600 years overdue on its eruption date, meaning it could erupt any day.
When it erupts, the toxic gases will eclipse our skies from the sun, giving us no sunlight for (estimated) 3 years = X_X
Well, look how far we've come in just the last 100 years! If in 2 billion years (give or take) we havent figured out how to travel to another planet & live on it, then really, we deserve to get pummeled by another galaxy. You know what I'm sayin...
Yes, that's my point of few as well. But I so see much misery and stupidity in the world that I'm afraid that it's going to be a close call. How can we invest in knowledge if all our money goes down the drain of banks and wars?
@SnapShow82 : In 200,000 years, Homo sapiens has not managed to send a single person beyond Earth orbit. (Note that the moon is in Earth orbit.) We have, however, excelled in two areas: Breeding, and creating ever more destructive weapons... both in large quantity. What makes you think that we would be around in even 200, let alone 2 billion years? And would relocating hurt the then extant life on Earth? Would Earth's orbit around the Sun be affected significantly? I'm not sure.
@sbergman27 I think you might be reading too much into my statement. All I'm saying is if we were able to ship a person to the moon 40 years ago, then just think of the possibilities in the coming 2 billion years. Whether or not we'll even be around in 200 years is irrelevant, as is the fate of Earth if the population had to vacate... cuz if we needed to leave Earth, then obviously something bad is about to go down!
@SnapShow82:Consider that we've lacked capability to send humans to the moon for 38 years. And in about a year, Russia (and China?) will be the only country able to send people into even low Earth orbit. While other technologies has advanced beyond my wildest dreams, manned space-flight has been one of the great disappointments of my 47 year life. Fortunately I've discovered that robotic probes are superior, by far, for this stage of our exploration of space.
@SnapShow82: Sorry for the continuation. But this kind of project is very susceptible to disruption by nuclear or biological warfare. Regarding vacating the Earth... fat chance. 6.5 billion is a huge number of people. How many people have walked on a world which was not the Earth? 12, IIRC. We regularly allow countless humans to die for lack of funds to pay for antiviral drugs. We're going to pack those people onto shuttles for Mars if Earth gets ruined? I doubt it.
@SnapShow82 I don't know why you bothered responding to these people. I'd say they're just trolling, but I think they may actually be stupid enough to attempt to use the past 50 years to predict the next 2 billion. These are honestly some of the dumbest comments I've ever read. Sorry you had to put up with them.
@SnapShow82 Yup! It is definitely within our reach! We even has some well established theories for faster-then-light travel! Bad thing is, they need a lot of money, and I mean a lot, to even start testing this.
Hey just one question. I live in the EU, n our definition of billion is a little different then american one, so if u cud most kindely tell me how many zeros are we talking about here i'd very pleased. :-P
