In fact, if he played it a bit slower, it would be better. Beginner-intermediate level songs shouldn't be played this fast. He is only 6 and his fingers aren't good enough to play fast and well. But again, AMAZING.
Woah that was wondeful! Kudos to you for having such à wonderful Son. I dont think it's that fast, and could be softer in some parts, but utterly Amazing.

@reptilesforever99 Oh please shut the fuck up. If he didn't want to play then he wouldn't. I started playing guitar when i was 4 and i practiced hours ON MY OWN ACCORD.
Ms. Bear has A LOT more talent composing, but please, that's no reason to trash Charlie's performance here.
FYI, Charlie performed here at 6y6m old, on an untuned piano with sound issues; Ms. Bear performed once at 6y1m, another MUCH better one at 7y, and the latter had similar quality/problem as Charlie's here - just ask any music professional.
He's six you moron... what were you doing at six besides peeing your bed? Lol, how can people judge a 6 year old when he learned how to walk 5 years before he played this...
i've played this song before and referring to the info box on the right, there aren't many (if any) "emotional" indications on the music. So I don't know what the rest of you are talking about. I think this kid is amazingly good, especially for a 6 year old. Bravo!

EXCELLENT. FIve starts great, I've been listening to all of Charlie's videos, they're amazing. He is a real piano prodigy. Those who commented on the emotion of this piece, no six year old can show emotion to a song that they don't know a lot about. Emotion comes with maturity. Excellent
the keys on this piano probably allow you to play so fast without too many problems. I would encourage you to play this piece on many different pianos. that way it will show where your weaknesses are.
I never understood why someone added an extra measure to the piece...
But for a 6-year-old? Wow. I couldn't reach an octave when I was 6.
It's not exactly a hard piece; I learned it in about an hour when I was about twelve, but to be fair; I was twice this kid's age. At this kid's age, it's a major achievement. Wait 'till he's big enough to do Rachmaninoff.
She's certainly very talented, being able to play AND compose! But she picked up piano 2 years younger than Charlie did. I might be wrong but AFAIK, she played Solfeggietto at age six too. I'm surprised at your conclusion after comparing the two Solfeggietto versions but everybody's entitled to their own opinions. One thing though - in music, fame is not the best way to judge a kid's talent.
why do you even bother talking to these idiots? this was very well played... although a little faster than I would interpret... I would note though most people play this song far to slowly... it is meant to be very fast
The bench wasn't adjustable & without the books his arm position would be too low, but with the books (and the fact that we forgot to bring pedal extender) it was too high for him to reach the ground, hence the phonebook on the ground too.
Talent precedes skill. Talent is inherent and skill is developed. This is a show of talent. He has many years to develop the skills. For now, appreciate the talent.
Thanks for your support! I can understand those that felt the piece much be played the perfectly "right" way, but they sometimes overlooked the facts that Charlie was only 6, playing under a difficult condition and had a little too much fun, AND that sometimes people do have different ideas how a piece should be played.

He's six. Has anyone stopped to think about the fact that it is incredible that he is playing this piece at all, no less with such dexterity?
In assessing this, one needs to consider the context. If Charlie were 18, with 15 years of piano and played this way, the comments would be justified. But at his age, one can only marvel at his speed and precision.
Haha... touché. I've played piano for eleven years now. It pains me to see positive comments on a video like this. However at his age it is hard to tell...

well there different versions of it. For instance theres one that is called Solfeggio in C minor which says to play it at the tempo " Prestissimo " so perhaps he has that version. The notes are exactly the same though. they just changed the name and the tempo i suppose ( they being the editors for the book )
Yeah sure, maybe he speaks Latin also so he knows what that means :))
We were in an Itallian restaurant last week and Charlie said: "One non troppo vivo for me and Rum Swizzle for my dad".
If he'd fail on a piano exam playing this, that would only be done by some spiteful professor who hates him because the kid playes better than he could at age 12 :)
i realize that this is a 6 year old. he played it quite well but it asks for 'non troppo vivo', not prestissimo. it would have sounded better if he played how bach wrote it. If he played that piece on a piano exam, he'd fail it. The tempo he played is much too fast. All of you who actually play piano grade 8 and up piano through the royal conservatory understand what i'm talking about. Don't you guys agree??
first of all, apendicita, ur critiquing a 9yr old on tempo, i mean, who at six cares about tempo, and for another, this song is really quite easy, i learned it when i was nine, so it doesn't surprise me that a six yr old can do it, though i am none the less impressed by his natural ability.
i think we could all agree it's way too fast... i mean, yes, great for him, he really is good, but he could be better with a slower tempo - btw, the sheet says 'non troppo vivo', not prestissimo
awe I can't believe that all some of you people can do is criticize when the child is only six years old! How do you nurture young talent by having such a critical spirit? Encouragement is key. Try to see the good in things. You'll never be happy if criticizing is all you ever do. I had to learn that lesson myself.
good, but i have to say that unless you are extremly talented, learning from early age isn't the best of things, mozart was extremly talented and played from early age, but you need to know what you are doing, especially if you play by ear
you gain a fundamental insight into how to play... it'll be like breathing for you. with piano lessons later you can pick up those skills you might not get as a young person, and pick them up much more easily than if you started when you were 15.
i agree. ive been playing for almost 9 years since i was only 3, and my other friends who started at only about 9 or 10 have a hard time learning and most of them quit..and they say its because they haven't been playing for a long time in order to grasp those crutial skills that others learn after just playing chopsticks at a young age..you know. ppl ask me why i haven't quit yet, but i say its b/c its the fact i haven't stopped for so long drives me to wanting to play even more
It's too fast to be distinct, so I don't think it's as good as it could be at a slightly slower speed. You should at least be able to hear shit, which you can't in this video.
The distinct problem isn't the speed as much as the reverb in the hall. It sounds as though the hall may have been about 1/3 full, so there was a lot more reverb than there would have been if the hall was full, which is how I'm sure it was designed for this kind of performance.
In fact, if he played it a bit slower, it would be better. Beginner-intermediate level songs shouldn't be played this fast. He is only 6 and his fingers aren't good enough to play fast and well. But again, AMAZING.

first of all, apendicita, ur critiquing a 9yr old on tempo, i mean, who at six cares about tempo, and for another, this song is really quite easy, i learned it when i was nine, so it doesn't surprise me that a six yr old can do it, though i am none the less impressed by his natural ability.

I think this is the best one on youtube.
teresahan1991 3 years ago
i think we could all agree it's way too fast... i mean, yes, great for him, he really is good, but he could be better with a slower tempo - btw, the sheet says 'non troppo vivo', not prestissimo

Are you joking me? Now this is amazing!! Mad props to this kid!!!!!!

awe I can't believe that all some of you people can do is criticize when the child is only six years old!

51423massi9351423 3 years ago
are you saying you'll be disadvantaged if you learned from a young age? I don't see how
Laxori666 3 years ago
you don't grasp all the possible skills whilst learning
51423massi9351423 3 years ago
you gain a fundamental insight into how to play... it'll be like breathing for you. with piano lessons later you can pick up those skills you might not get as a young person, and pick them up much more easily than if you started when you were 15.
Laxori666 3 years ago
i agree. ive been playing for almost 9 years since i was only 3, and my other friends who started at only about 9 or 10 have a hard time learning and most of them quit..and they say its because they haven't been playing for a long time in order to grasp those crutial skills that others learn after just playing chopsticks at a young age..you know. ppl ask me why i haven't quit yet, but i say its b/c its the fact i haven't stopped for so long drives me to wanting to play even more
iamaudreyandur 3 years ago
ya, don't give up! you will appreciate it a lot later in life. it's good you have your own drive to continue

Saverosso 3 years ago
waaaaaayyyyyy too slow hahaha
ccastillo90 3 years ago
were you able to do that when you were 6?
lirigun 3 years ago
It's too fast to be distinct, so I don't think it's as good as it could be at a slightly slower speed. You should at least be able to hear shit, which you can't in this video.
DJDielentheis 3 years ago 2
That's kind of true. It's only at a tempo of 144 per quarter note, and this kid's really pushing it! x]
xoCharisma 3 years ago
The distinct problem isn't the speed as much as the reverb in the hall. It sounds as though the hall may have been about 1/3 full, so there was a lot more reverb than there would have been if the hall was full, which is how I'm sure it was designed for this kind of performance.
jgelhaar 3 years ago
he also uses the right pedal which elongigates the sounds as well but if he is playing prestissimo at this speed it does blur the original melody
iamaudreyandur 3 years ago
Yeah, you can't hear the voice of each melody. It's a blur of nothingness. Impressive, but boring.
