Wow, lots of drug comments here for a clip of three awesome musicians just messing around and still producing heartfelt, memorable music. For the record, lots and lots of coke at the Last Waltz, including a "coke room" for Scorcese and the musicians, and at times in their careers Rick, Richard and Levon all were fucked up on coke and heroin....so don't be naive enough to think they weren't. They made some of the best music ever written by anyone, anywhere...so give 'em a break...
this is one of the best clips from the Last Waltz. I love it. Those boys were so talented that they could make any old unrehearsed, rough and ready, half baked, bit of music into the noise of angels. Bless them all and RIP those departed.
@stratking69er half baked? They are way passed baked. The amount of cocaine they were doing at the time was unbelievable...watch Neil Youngs performance...so coked out.
@leonor123456 Sorry friend they were in fact all coked up. The director of the movie and many members of the other bands there confirmed there was a "coke room".
@leonor123456 are you hammered buddy? He was most definitely on drugs while he played this! The majority of the greatest musicians back in the day were big druggies! For example, my own personal favourite, Jimi Hendrix. One of the greatest guitarists to have ever lived and just listen to his beautiful music, how could he not have been stoned to hell?
@leonor123456 man, you're actually retarded. In basically every interview you can see him with a roach in his hand. If he's so open about doing weed he clearly does other and harder drugs. He looks ABSOLUTELY baked here.
I agree as well. The point I'm making however is that they ended the song because Danko was rusty on the fiddle. Had it been rehearsed a little, we might be listening to an entire song instead of a one minute video clip. Wouldn't you rather hear them do the entire song?
These guys were the best and nothing that I have seen compares The Beatles led in the backstrech briefly but coming out of the turn and to the wire these blessed North Americans won going away

Danko's performance in this historic concert was superb, he didn't failed any note,
despite he played the most difficult parts. Maybe he took less or he tolerated better,
but here definitely he's not baked. Don't know about the others...

Maybe, but Rick Danko and Richard Manuel were pretty much always like that, and with Robertson you could never tell.
byebyecitybyebye 2 years ago
The funny thing is, as good as that piece sounded, Rick was rusty on the fiddle. Imagine what that sounded like after they rehearsed it a few times.

I think it's almost better that it's unrehearsed. More authentic. And I agree with everything Twilight said!

You didn't hear the whole song because they didn't feel like dragging it out. But I prefer this to nothing.

Does anyone know what type of guitar
Robbie is playing? It looks a little like
a Gibson "O" series but I can't really
tell with the angle he's holding it in this
video.
