You also forgot to do a complete in cab inspection, including mirror position, seatbelts, seats, dashboard switch positions, guages (oil/battery) and an in cab brake test... fanning down to 80, 60, then below 50 for trailer brakes dynamiting..
Also you forgot to check the tractor protection valve, and the trailer 1 way check valve.
You can't catch everything, rust around the lug nuts, shiny thread, signs that the lugnuts are loose, in the U.S. this is another key point, not hand checking the lugs, however, not a bad idea. Yes, the fifth wheel, no air gap, as well as the locking rod secured. But give the man credit. I did learn alot from him. It is easier to catch what he did not do than be able to point out everything he did do. EXCELLENT PRE TRIP ALL IN ALL!!!
He did a very thourough walk through, do you want to know why a person like him would be failed after the very thourough walk through that alot of people on the road do not do as well as he has done. The would never leave there truck running while they where under it. First thing, key in your pocket so no one starts the truck and moves it while you are under it inspecting it. Very, Very, important for your own personal safety. I did like the excellent job he did, but, protect yourself as weL
he did skip some of the things in the ispection like the brakes and other things one cperson said he missed the 5th wheel the reason why is the trailer is sitting on it
Love this video...Info is very helpful, because it is a pre inspections and it is for your own safety you have to inspect the truck just like that. I like how he inspect EVERYTHING.
It seems to me, that though I appreciate the video, inspecting this many things is a little much for a daily pre trip inspection..of course you wouldn't have to explain everything you were inspecting repeadly to yourself per say, because you could easily look it over much quicker once you got more familiar with it. It seems that there should be a more revised inspection procedure, that excluded some things, like checking the frame, and limiting the inspection to the parts that are more critical.
@allwedoissell remember, you have to do the harder parts before the easy parts. so practice with the pre trip inspection every chance you get before starting on your behind the wheel lesson.
Yeah key in hand or pocket...
