To the Dr in the video; isn't there such a thing as subglottic croup and supraglottic croup, which is also known as acute epiglottitis? Isn't acute epiglottitis actually a medical emergency, and any examination of the throat can cause the epiglottis to actually cover the trachea and cut of all air to the lungs? Aren't there two different forms of croup, on caused by a virus (subglottic or laryngotrachealbronchitis) and one caused by a bacteria (acute epiglottitis or supraglottic)?
@knowyourfacts. How is it an old wives tale if it is a diagnosed disease? That's like saying cancer doesn't exist, tell your mom to read a book next time
@snakedoctor619 you cant GET croup.its something your born with.useually it goes away at about 6 or 7 years old but it could stay until ur 16!im 11 years and i still have croup.long story short, its a disease ur born with and it makes your throut close up, causing a seal bark. :)
@Munchcala You're an idiot. Croup is usally caused by a virus. its like a cold or a flu. You have something else probably. I've never heard of chronic croup
@1sweet69 actually it is u who is an idiot.croup is something you are born with.it is an alergy attack that makes your throut close up, causing a seal bark.are YOU a docter?seriously!i've gone to the hospital for this!i've had this since i was 1 year old!
Munchala don't get into a fight you're not sure to win--> YOU ARE NOT BORN WITH CROUP. It's an infeccious disease caused by: Parainfluenzae 1, Influenza A, Parainfluenzae 2,3, Adenovirus, Rhinovirus, Herpes Simplex type 1, M. pneumoniae, even Candida in inmunosupressed. Sinonim: Laringotracheobronquitis... being part of the Croup syndrome (other entities, all infectious). Having it doesn't mean you own the truth. Hope you go look it up for yourself and own the truth ;) - Med student
Oh, and he's simplifying it for you. I'm not against that, but just so you know, it's not caused by cold viruses (such as rhinovirus and coronavirus) usually, but rather by the respiratory syncytial virus (though cold viruses and the orthomyxovirus still can cause croup, technically it's just any infection of the vocal chords and pharynx).
Thank you for this video. I am a fourteen year old boy. My parents just spent 200$ on expensive medication but thanks to this video i just helped me i laid on the bathroom floor with a steamy hot shower running and i could breath like normal. YAY! Thank You
My son had croup when he was almost two I took him to the hospital and he was admitted to the hospital they said if I didn't bring him in he would have died
There are some good points in this video that work-cold night air, steaming bathboom and using a cool midst humidifier. We also used two pillows to have my daughter elevated.
When I was 7, I had a sudden attack of croup -- struggled to breathe, sounded like a seal. My grandmother recognized it as croup and immediately steamed a pot of water and I sat over it, breathing, with a towel draped over me and the pot of water, until my breathing relaxed. When I went back to my mom's at the end of the weekend, I told her I had croup, and she dismissed it as an old wives' tale. Glad my grandma knew better! Score one for the wise elderly!
My grandma did something simeraly when I had a cold or something she used to take the pot of water and put Vics Vapor Rub and put it in it to open up my airways and by the next day I was 100% better but unfourtanley she died from Hepiatitous C because in the 70's she needed blood and that blood they gave her was infected so she god the disease but she died on May 30,2005 the day before her birthday then my grandpa died back in 2008 from a blood clought,I miss them alot.

@cclinton09 You're 11, you shouldn't have to know this stuff yet, now you know, be happy jaja

@Munchcala Nope, not a doctor...a respiratory therapist actually. I hope you've humbled yourself with some research.

Do adults get this also? All I've ever found about it refers to croup in infants/children.
