Speaking of Classified Grass... I only have the promo video we did. Does anyone have our whole show? God, I would love to see that again. I seem to remember we got 3 standing ovations in 20min and 3rd place. Hmmmm. With AK in the band, how did that happen? LOL
I was there, which just makes me feel old, but John Cowan's version of this classic is one of the very best. Search out the recorded version, and turn it up loud!!
These are two of my favorites...Sam Bush is such an influence and them for him and Cowan to play off of each others vibes is sooo great. I don't remember any other artist that put so much into their interpretations..
I was there also,,and I also video taped this..on my old giant two piece vcr recorder,,, I need to find that tape and have it converted so I can post,,this is the same festival that alison kraus band won the band contest and started her career,, I have that taped too,,
concert was at the galt house, free,,, what a blast,,NGR, hot rize, david grismond, seldom scene, and if I remember correctly the first time bill monroe asked sam bush to pick on stage
WOW! What a find! I was there, sitting in my lawn chair in our "camp-site" right in front of the stage blown-away by this song and that voice. The album version is still one of the "most played" on my iPod. Thanks for posting it.
So glad to see more and more seeing what i have seen for the past decade. Would love to see a reunion from the beging (Howard Levy) tunes (Mark O"Conner)& others the list goes on. With a new GREAT!!!
these guy's really rocked. been seein' em for about 25 yrs.now. They just keep gettin better in my book. It would be great if they got back together, but i dought if it'll ever happen sigh.....
I saw Sam and John at a musical benefit back in November. And really had fogotten how much energy they emulate to a crowd. Just damn amazing. I am sure money might get them back together for a few shows....and scheduling. Then again one cannot recapture the past
Still fresh and Killer after all these years. They were so ahead of there time!! I was 11 when I found a LP of thiers and I went home and never bought another rock album ever. Grass lover and musician ever since.
I have heard/seen this vidio a least a dozen times. Each time I hear it or any song by NGR, I HEAR SOMETHING NEW, complicated arrangements? I guess, duh. I am 65 years old and this is by far, the best band ever. Bluegrass, rock, gospel, jazz, reggae, they did it all and to my ears, BETTER. Now, somebody make my day and tell me where I can get a full vdio of one of their performances
Personally, I think the Flecktones are better. Bela was always gonna be too limited by these guys. Have you heard Bela's colaboration with Chick Corea...it's trancendant.
Hmmm....nurseswhocare...care about what may I ask? Obviously not people who have different tastes to them. BTW are you a prophet as well as a nurse who "cares"? I was wonderin' cos you seemt to be predictin' the future.
Man`o`MAN. This just plain ROCKs. NGR just had to be one of the most varied exiting groups to ever take the stage. Bela, Sam and John are still out there with their own bands mesmorizing and wowing fans with their musical abilities.
The first time I heard this song was Vassar's instrumental version; next the New Grass version on "Fly Through the Country". New Grass's live performances of this were always the better than any of the recordings.
Its been viewed over 26,000 times..there should be over 26,000 likes.Hadn't heard this song before..but WOW!!!!Excellent performance by all!!!

That year, my best friend was the banjer picker with Classified Grass. Alison Krause was in the band along with Jim Denny and Scott Freeman.
bamertide 3 years ago
Yeah...that must have been John Schmaltz on banjo and Scott Risner on mandolin. I recall it well. then again it helps when one has the video
mandotim 3 years ago
John has the video, and the funny thing is we watched it just the other day. So much killer stuff on there.
bamertide 3 years ago
Yeah, I mailed it to him about a week or so ago!

I just saw this. I asked John if he might have a copy and he said he wasn't sure.

By John are you talking about Schmaltz? If he has something different than the promo video we put together I would love to see it!

Yea. I'll check and see.
