  • i tried this recipe for myself, but i used yellow apples... it turned out great. it came out a little watery but i'm definitely gonna be making this again in the fall!

  • Be careful with that stuff, apples contain pectine, which the yeast will probably turn into toxic methanol (that stuff makes moonshine infamous for making people blind).

better use fruits that doesn't contain pectine (nor too much acid, which would kill the yeast) or make a strong sougar-wine and put the apples/-juice in there after the yeast is dead (metal-ions are deadly, so just put a silver spoon or something in there for a few hours).

i occasionally make mead (honey-wine), that's safe too.

  • whoops, not ajack., but wine. We'd have Ajack on weekends at the picking house when I was in my late-teens. I wasn't paying attention to how it was made then..oops

  • I rember drinking a lot of that,That was water in Germany..lol

  • nice... one more idea to try now lol

  • That's neat!Did a stint in the county jail years ago and we made it in 2-liters had to sleep with it so it did'nt explode.(LOL)

  • Nice Work!!! I will have to give that a try.

  • I gotta start trying some of your homemade alcohol recipes. This one looks real easy. How do you bottle the final stuff - do you use old wine bottles, or mason jars?

  • I've made a lot of wine and have a few tips. Buy an airlock and stopper. Definitely worth the 4 bucks. Also use champagne yeast and it will taste better. And the best tip of all is make a family size tea bag and put the tea in there. It has yeast nutrients and will give it better flavor. And if you want to save on yeast you can keep a culture of it in a soda bottle with juice in the fridge. Just shake it and pour in about an ounce or two then top it off with juice again.

  • i dont like airlocks....i have my reason.....tea bag i never heard of...interesting..id like to know more about that......i do have a yeast starter in the fridge for bread.....never used it for alcohol....thanks....

  • Tea contains tannins just like grape skins. This does two things. It gives the wine more complex and nuanced flavors and it helps feed the yeast with nutrients. Which will help speed the process. I first heard about it for a mead recipe. Now I use it in all of my wines. The champagne yeast is handy because you can make wine stronger than 12% alcohol. I've made wine that I swear was 15 and 16 percent. Makes for a quick buzz.

  • i will try the tea bag next time......some of my wines was 30% by the hydrometer...lol....

  • How are you measuring it? Do you take a measurement before and after? Because bread yeast dies in alcohol above 12% and champagne yeast dies above 18%. I just looked and my hydrometer doesn't even have a reading above 22%.
