i like to rack according to colors...starting at 1 on spot and following left of rack as 1-9, 2-10,3-11, 4-12, 5-13, 6-14, 8 in center 7-15 below 8......This gives u 8 in center 1 on spot, alternating hi-low's, and looks sexy....although base corners are both solids whatever......

One thing I see a lot of beginning players do is rack the balls in order (1, 2-3, 4-9-5, 6-7, 8) this is a big mistake. When a good shooter breaks He would be likely to leave the 1, 2, and 3 at the same end of the table making the run-out easier. if you make him have to travel from one end of the table to the other for the 2 or the 3 you are more likely that he will get out of line and miss a shot.

dude honestly if you racked it like that. that would be a hell of a bad rack. your suppose rack it from left to right solid/stripe/solid/stripe or other way around w/ no same ball touching each other. except for the row that 8 is in because in pool 8 means neutral; it can be both solid or stripe.

The only thing that matters in an eight ball rack is that the eight ball is in the middle and the two bottom edge balls are not matching. Thats it. This is straight from the VNEA rule book. its important to note that eight ball is racked differently than that in every major tourney and league... 2 basic ways. alternating solid stripe all the way around with eight in center and the second way (most commonly used in "ball in hand") is alternating solid stripe all the way around then switch the back right or lift two balls and of course eight in center. either way thats an illegal rack in almost every tourney and league... good info for that league though.

the universal rack that is accepted at every tourney and league except bca of course. is 1 ball in front, eight in middle, solid strip all the way around and then the last two ball, numbers 14 and 15 swaped everybody accepts that rack and thats why everybody uses it.

Good to know. My whole life during 8 ball rack I have put 1 on spot, 8 in center and alternate strip and solid in rows. Guess I don't need to put so much effort into it next time.
