  • It's less of a "path of least resistance" issue and more of a torque issue. Nevertheless, Travis' technique will resolve them.

  • Bunch of poker face douche bags

  • /learned

  • I have this video and i never knew Costa's name. Up untill now i have been calling him "Intense handgun guy" Cause you know hes a serious man.

  • Fantastic Vid!!

  • Awesome video. I learned quite a bit. Thanks for uploading.

  • I've always had a 100/100 grip and have been "corrected" by instructors over and over again who tell me that my shooting hand should just barely hold the gun and the support hand should squeeze it. It never works for me, but as you said the 100/100 grip does. I'm glad somebody who knows what they're talking about is on my side! :D

  • Thats the M&P 9mm.

  • direct and educational all shooters should follow this man,

  • travis haley is my hero

  • m&p 9mm or m&p40? ive always wondered what he uses

  • very interesting, not only does he explain why "the grip" ,but he also shows the consequences of it,makes alot of sence and now i know that i hold mine not high enough

  • This video makes wading through tons of garbage videos on youtube all the more worthwhile. It proves there are some diamond among all the rough. Thanks for posting such a great video. Short,, sweet and ohh so educational. By the way, I too love the M&Ps

  • @goBUHuskies I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.

  • @RuthlessComment The idea is to help the shooters break their tunnel vision.

  • @RuthlessComment In addition to the comment below, it also trains the shooter to search and assess for additional threats. Just because you shot the guy trying to mug you does not mean that he is alone and that the fight is finished.

  • @apamburn Well said!

  • @RuthlessComment Is life "Bliss"...........friend?

  • @RuthlessComment You train how you shoot and after you engage a threat in the real world you need to quickly scan the area 360 degrees to make sure there are no more threats.

  • @RuthlessComment

"Cringing" is protecting. The idea is to avoid having someone grab your arm or your weapon. The paranoid looking left and right is exactly that. Where there is one threat there may be others. That's the idea.

  • @RuthlessComment - A "threat" rarely travels alone.

  • Boss.

  • travis has the same recon tattoo as fruity rudy from generation kill

  • Very good vid

  • At 3:16 did the gun automatically release the slide to chamber a round when a new magazine was inserted?

  • @mrvashful The M&P does this thing where if you hit the mag base at 45 degrees hard enough it will trigger a slide release and jack the first round in.

  • @mrvashful if you slam the mag in hard enough it will release the slide. its nice but doesnt happen 100% of the time

  • @mrvashful They call it "the forty-five." Hitting the gun forward and up at a sort of forty five degree angle releases the slide on some pistols.

  • @mrvashful Yes, alot of guns do it. That is the M&P

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing.

  • @danny223009 You're very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Nice example of recoil

  • Love this guy.....Just had a similar class at GLOBAL ONE.....awesome technique..

  • why are they all wearing "cool" sunglasses ? :D

  • @osmanlitorunu1990 They're probably using them as eye protection.

  • @osmanlitorunu1990 It's part of the uniform, it makes you a better shooter, and the chicks dig it (more tang).

  • @osmanlitorunu1990 Do you buy uncool sunglasses?

  • @osmanlitorunu1990 And they're legitimately cool.

  • who are the 3 tards who disliked this

  • @jrides4 three guys that own Hi-points and are gonna be ass raped in a fire fight.

  • Possibly the best grip vids Ive seen...

  • good lesson...never know its gonna work like that.

  • 9mm or .40?

  • What caliber is that M&P?

  • travis shaves his arms for tactical reasons...

  • @benchmstr In all seriousness I think he went through skin cancer

  • @benchmstr Art of the Dynamic Body Wax.

  • in a combat situation against 3 guys with no where to take cover i advise you to stay calm with your eyes open get down on your knees or the ground if possible and just shoot away...

  • @JUKEBOXX1990 Yes, because the first thing you want to do in a fight is become static and immobile.

  • @SCOUTCHRIS well what would you do.turn and run??i suggest you get down cause you will be taking fire..if your standing up your a bigger target..

  • @JUKEBOXX1990 Get off the X.

  • @harmon92 wtf..get off the crack

  • @JUKEBOXX1990 The "X" is wherever you currently are in a gunfight. That's where the other guy will be shooting at. That's where you don't want to be. Keep moving and you become a harder target to hit. Pretty simple really.

  • @harmon92 o i see..sorry about that i thought you meant something else..do what you think works but i got this advice form a my brother and he is in the army right now..

  • he started his own company, doesn't work at magpul

  • Is it a .40 or a 9mm version?

  • @AlexPetersen1 9mm, that's why there's literally zero recoil.

  • oh whowhwhoh

  • Wow. Mr. Haley reloads like a BOSS after that last string of 12 rounds. It was like something off of a video game.

  • Interesting

  • when working on your grip like this where are your shoulders and feet with respect to the target? it looks like his shoulders are turned slightly and i imagine his feet are too?

  • @Duckyistrippin From what I've seen there really isn't a rigid formula. A lot of that depends on how you're using your cover. Also remember that you may not have time to square up in a perfect stance in combat. You're driving the gun on target, engaging, scanning for new threats. Rinse and repeat.

  • @harmon92 yeah i realized the whole point to his stance is it doesnt really matter where your feet are.. ive been out of the loop for a while ;) ill get it figured out!

  • @Duckyistrippin ideally you want to be square to your target because you want your armor to be facing any potential threat.

that's why a bladed stance has fallen out of favor - turning opens up your side which is unprotected, and is potentially the worst place to be hit

^^^(both lungs and heart, just like hunting game)^^^

  • @MaxAC40 no armor here, but it makes sense to expose on organ as opposed to all of them..getting shot in the side would suck.

  • @Duckyistrippin If you are wearing armor, that is a good rule to follow, but remember, you're also trying to maximize the use of your cover. Again, there isn't really a rigid formula, because combat is anything but rigid.

  • @John234pwns obviously you weren't listening. Travis says that it's a .40 cal smith and wesson m and p. And I carry that pistol everyday at work and I know what it looks like and that is it. It is not a 9 mil. It is a 40 cal!!!

  • It appears to say M&P 9 on the side and 9MM on top?

  • @KillerWoo10 just to clear everything up it is not a m&p 40 its a m&p9 spec ops that comes from the factory with a threaded barrel smith does not have a factory 40 cal threaded barrel. so everyone can stop arguing

  • Comment removed

  • @fatdan172501 If it is Costa's, I don't think it is a factory spec ops model but a S&W custom shop gun. I shot it once but don't remember what he said about it anymore.

  • @MrChadbag they both run them and it is the spec ops because of the threaded barrel. but there is no doubt in my mind they have done custom work to them.

  • @fatdan172501 I know they both have an M&P, but I don't remember if Travis's had a threaded barrel or not when I saw him shoot it in 2 different classes. Probably. However, the threaded barrel does not mean it is the spec op version. I believe they are S&W custom shop (at least Costa's) models. Obviously the barrel could be the same as in the spec ops model. I am basing this on memory from what Chris told me about it being a custom model.

  • @MrChadbag i see i see. wouldn't suprize me the reason i was thinking spec ops is because it doesn't make much sense to have a custom barrel made when they have factory guns with a threaded barrel. either way its cool to see them run m&ps i run one and its amazing i think its hands down the most well rounded gun available for its price range and better than some more costly guns. call me a fan boy lol.

  • It's a .40 cal smith and wesson m&p

  • @KillerWoo10 They mentioned the pistols are nine mils.

  • Anyone know what caliber travis and costa are shooting in this DVD?

  • 3:18 "which way did the gun recoil?"

WHAT?! I SAW NO SUCH BULLSHIT!

  • @RustyRampRade Is that a good thing? Explain how it's "bullshit?"

  • @IMFDB I was joking because there was almost no recoil when he fired.

  • @RustyRampRade Oh. My mistake.

  • is that ksc usp tactical???

  • @emilehpark 1) that's not airsoft, 2)its NOT an airsoft as the comments below suggests 3)its a s&w m&p

  • @sasquatch4liffee

i dont see where i replyed 4 times?

  • @obamaisanazipig you must be deaf. starting @0:25 he says "this beaver tail, like on this Smith and Wesson M&P here..."

  • sam fisher disliked this video because he shoots using center axis relock

  • is that a h&k usp travis is useing?

  • @obamaisanazipig It's a Smith and Wesson M&P.

  • @harmon92 .40 or 9mm?

  • @rmohty I think it looks like a .40 judging by the recoil and the number of rounds he fired before reloading, but I haven't fired an M&P in either caliber yet, so I could be wrong.

  • @harmon92 It's hard to tell because he fires off 12 and the .40 holds 15, and the 9mm holds 17. But it looks like the .40 due to recoil.

  • @harmon92 Thats an M&P9

  • @haus340 Others say it's a .40, I'm not sure.

  • @harmon92 Others are incorrect. That is a Smith factory threaded barrel, and they do not make the M&P40 threaded from factory.

  • @haus340 Boom. Knowledge dropped, folks. Thanks, Haus.

  • Comment removed

  • @harmon92 You can most clearly see MP9 on the slide at 0:39 seconds

  • @harmon92

Haley has a Smith and Wesson M&P Compact in his pants.

Haley has room for One; Costa Doesn't.

    *explosive fist*

God I hope you guys know where that comes from... if else I sound idiotic...

  • @obamaisanazipig really? he says it in the first 27 seconds of the video

  • @sasquatch4liffee

where did he said what pistol he was useing

  • @sasquatch4liffee

lol this coming from someone who belives in monsters.where did he said what pistol he was useing?

  • @sasquatch4liffee

my question was answered.go somewhere eles and start a fight.

  • What happens when you have that high grip but the recoile makes the tip of the gun to go down word.

  • @shanepify I don't think recoil works like that.

  • @harmon92 go to my chenl and watch the first shot you will see what mean.

  • @shanepify You are probably anticipating the recoil and pushing the gun down, flinching.

  • @Nemesis2e Thank you and my sight was off to lol but thanks for that help to get me closer to where I need to get better on thanks

  • @shanepify not to sound like a creep, but, it sounds as if you're anticipating recoil, and forcing the muzzle downward. jerking the trigger can cause something similar,(down to the left) or tightening your grip while pressing the trigger (down to the right.)

not an expert, for what it's worth.

  • @jakebrake1968 Thanks for leting me know what I could be doing wrong.

  • @shanepify That would be called "Anticipating Recoil". Lot of new shooters have that issue but can be fixed with snaps caps ;)

  • @shanepify Could be anticipating the gun going off. Pulling down. Practice trigger pulls (gun empty) with an emply casing on the end of the slide behind the front site. See if the case falls. Or run your gun with a mag of dummies and lives. See what happens with the gun when the round goes click. If you flinch, you are anticipating. It will be signalled by a drop of the muzzle.

  • @albertabirdman hell ya that's sounds like a way of practice I will do that when I do that and it helps me Ill will post it up and say you told me and to help people on the same thing I'm going threw with my hand grip and the finger pull of the triger thanks man that sounds good to try.

  • @shanepify turn the gun right side up

  • @shanepify Funny thing is that can happen, but only on a gun with a ridiculous powerful muzzle compensator.

  • @shanepify Ugh, that's over-reaction on your part. If you're over anticipating the recoil, you can either push against it as you pull the trigger and push the barrel down, or you can jerk the gun up slightly as you pull the trigger. It shouldn't be doing that on it's own, or something has gone very wrong.

  • @inudude15 Yeah I figure out what I was doing wrong I had my rest bent to much and puching the gun to.

  • @shanepify What's likely happening if your shot are hitting low is that you are anticipating the recoil and flinching slightly. You may not even realize you are doing when you're firing live rounds. This will cause you to push the muzzle down as the shot breaks.

  • @TheeYellowDart Thanks man for the help I'll get to the range and shoot more to get it right thanks bro.

  • @shanepify If the tip of the weapon goes down after firing, it means you're predicting the shot and over-

compensating for it, which is bad.

  • @shanepify it means you're anticipating the recoil and nudging the gun down before you fire.

  • @ 0:40

Someone should manufacturer a handgun like that!

  • You can buy it on their website.

  • @triad10001t The DVDs are also available from Brownells., Amazon, USCAV., brovocompanyusa. etc.

  • Big point of confusion among shooters that he doesn't address. When shooting RH, the bore is inline with the forearm. Shooting LH, it's slightly more towards the thumb. Shooting 2 hands, the bore axis is perpendicular to his chest. This changes the grip-in-hand position, the trigger finger location, and trigger pull slightly. I'd like to hear him, Clint, and other experts address this.

  • Thanks for this great teaching video, it will surely make me a better shooter! Now I have to watch the REST of them!

    John V.

  • Anyone know what light he is using on his m&p?

  • @kevo1264 i know its a surefire not sure what model though.

  • Yea Travis can shoot! F-that was fast!

  • Great class.

    What caliber ? 9mm ?

  • thumbs up grip:P

  • Hey, guys, how heavy do you think Haley's trigger is on that M&P?

  • @Spade117 not very i have one maybe 3 pnds?

  • Comment removed

  • It's funny how everyone still has their earplugs in

  • @HiroMingDynasty you can hear with those, their electronic.

  • what holster and mag holsters are they using?

  • @TKDgeehun They're from Raven Concealment.

  • Yes he is shooting a 9mm Smith and Wesson M&P Spec Ops model. It came with a factory extended threaded barrel for a suppressor.

  • Travis and Chris make the best training DVD's. Tremendous teachers. Not many skilled operatives teach as well as these two.

  • those videos of magpul are fucking outstanding

  • What kind of watch is that???

  • Cool sideburns

  • @darogers125 0:32 is a little clearer

  • I was shown this at a range years ago and yep, it rocks =)

  • Haley is the Blackwater Sniper from iraq

  • @ksk583 For real? How do you know? Cause I've seen that video...

  • what a great video!!!

  • Travis Haley is one bad motherfucker

  • @Jody434 Don't forget about Costa! He's badass too.

  • does anyone know if the tactical versions of the M&P releases the slide after the mag is inserted on its own or is Travis doing something i cant see. 3:16. just wondering. i don't see his thumb go over the slide release or grab the slide. seems to release on its own after he slams it in.

  • @Bumling

the M&P will release the slide automatically when you slam the fresh mag into the mag well if you hold the pistol at about a 45 deg angle.

  • man i wish i had this video on my computer so i can take it with me on my blackberry so i can take it to the range. where can i get this stuff.

  • @bmstylee Search around, I'm sure you can find it somewhere. ;)

  • @bmstylee buy the magpul handgun dynamics video, rip it, convert it to your blackberry format, trasnfer it into urblackberry, ???, profit.

  • @bmstylee

"man i wish i had this video on my computer so i can take it with me on my blackberry so i can take it to the range. where can i get this stuff. "

  • ...I've always thought the Smith M&P was better than the Glock. Seeing Haley use it makes me trust the M&P even more. Great instructional video. (Too bad my hands are too big to shoot thumbs forward)

  • Tight hold, just under the slide, equal on each side... I'd never considered that so much, but it makes perfect sense.

    Good video.

  • what happened does he have? the type

  • @SwatShot2999 What do you mean, his handgun?

  • @harmon92 yea my bad i messed up. idk what i was thinking lol. and yes i meant his handgun.

  • @SwatShot2999 Travis is using a Smith and Wesson M&P.

  • @harmon92 is his a 45?

  • @harmon92 what caliber is his handgun?
