@AdamR702 hey Adam, i'm also a lefty catcher! or trying to be one :P uh is it harder to play catcher as a lefty? read that throwing runners out is way harder for a lefty as compared to a right-hander so uh i'll like to know if there's really any problems :) thanks!
@HIIGHliighterrs@HIIGHliighterrs No its easier to throw to first, some right handed pitchers will say it looks awkward throwing to a lefty, BUT as a Lefty pitcher now I would love to throw to a lefty catcher. The only thing that can get in your way is a Right handed batter blocking the plate, you go to throw at second and the dude is in your way. Also being lefty benefits you if there is a play at the plate. Dont give up or listen to coaches if they say you cant be a catcher.
The best part of this clip is when he says "I also have my glove, obviously to catch the ball", ROFL. I enjoyed the part about footwork and proper mechanics....................................................no wait, he forgot that part, but at least we all know that he don't do his own laundry, lol...........this guy cracks me up.
WOW! I learned so much, that was some really great info. But you might want to change the name of this video from (How to play catcher) to (I like to play catcher and talk about myself).
@joeypigottsandiego if your talking about from squatting, strengthen them by doing drills for your knees( google it) in addition to that buy knee braces, nothing bulky just some thin compression knee braces
@Freepepsi42 haha, dont call yourself a catcher if you use knee savers. Plus, they kill your knees. They don't allow you to get in a proper catching position. All they do is save you from being sore. How many major league baseball catchers use knee savers? Like 10% of them? Only one I can think of off the top of my head would be bengie molina, and I sure don't blame him for using them.
@noahmcdx well yeah but i play both softball and varsity baseball i use them for both because softball they come in low and baseball don't want my knees to give in during a pitch because if i miss i'm done i catch for my brother he throws 88mph-99mph.it also builds up strengh in the knees and will extend your carrer slow down the degeneration of the knee
@Freepepsi42 your brother does not throw 99 mph. It does not build up strength in the knees. And if you take proper care of your bones, joints, and ligaments, catching will not deteriorate your knees. Just like this guy said in this video, do yoga and poladies and do light lifting and plyometrics along with endurance training. And what the hell do you mean your knee give in during a pitch? You're supposed to sit on your heels, and even with a runner on, that would be pathetic to give in.
@noahmcdx he can we clocked him a few time it's more like he threw from 30 pitches 7 pitches at 88mph then 5 at 93 1 at 99 and the rest at 97. you know what i mean i'm on my toes wait now that i think about it it's me on my toes when it takes the pitcher so freackin long to throw the ball and i perfer knee savers that just me. and i played like 3 games one after another in playoffs of course my knees would start t give in
@Freepepsi42 Your not supposed to catch on your toes. Take off your knee savers, put you legs hip distance apart, duck your feet about 4-5 inches out(a little less than half way fully to the side). Now go down in a crouch and sit on your heels. If you cant sit on your heels properly without feeling comfortable or your heels coming off, work on your flexibility so you can. Now for runner on, just lift your butt up a little bit. Not like 90 degrees like some say, just a little higher.
@Freepepsi42 now spread out a little bit more so you feel comfortable. You should keep your butt a little higher than the middle of your calf (lets say 3/4 of the distance from the back of your heel to the back of your knee). That's how you catch. There's much more underground proper receiving skills, but for now, let me tell you this. Think of making an L with your left index finger and thumb. When you catch always keep it with the thumb parallel to the ground, more or less.

I remember my days of playing catcher. Always pissed me off when I called for a pitch location and the pitcher didn't throw there.
