This series is pure gold !!! They did alot of research before even thinking of shooting all this !  I love that .... instead of making up a story (like the most of hollywood productions) they based everything on real events in that war .. using authentic documentation and stories from that conflict . Just amazing how much work and study went into this !!! Well done !!

@theycallthewind23 No they werent, the idea was with the 1st Marines invading Pelelieu and onward but names and direct depiction of the battles are far from what it actually looked like, trust me i just finished watching the series and played WaW to see the difference, and its bigger than you can imagine.

@zeronova77 I like games that try to educate about historical events like the Medal of Honor series. If games can spark an interest in the real events and people learn from these past generations who have past on than the games are worth playing.

Don't get me wrong, there are games that are great just for fun but if it's based on historical events then those who fought and those who died in them must be honored.

@jimfox15b I would want to fight either. But if I had to choose, I would rather fight the Germans. The Japanese were crazy and fought ferociously to the death. We took scores of German prisoners, but Japanese prisoners were hard to come by.

Also the Pacific theater of war's geography made most battles close quarter slug fests. The battles in the Pacific were not as great in terms of numbers than in Europe but they were much more intense. We were not used to that kind of frenzy.

My view-

Some what distant from the reality of warfare and the historicaly correct facts is The Pacific- as a UK view i so far have not enjoyed the first 3 episodes (esp part 3 - YAWN).

Speilberg does his best to represent the show as a american "EXTRANAGANZA" seen from a american prospective ignoring all the facts and gaining every chance he can to have the extras wave the stars and stripes (YAWN).

@bananforhud Just because the Americans didn't suffer the same casualties as the soviets doesn't mean that battles like Iwo Jima and Okinawa weren't "REAL bloody, messy and dramatic events of WWII". Frankly I don't think the Russian leadership cared much for loss of life. Also, this is an American production, so it makes sense that it's about Americans. I don't think the Russians would want an Americanized version of their battles.

"the Black Angels of Peleliu" got their name from the Marines because of their sheer determination helping their brothers out of Hell.when 1st marine division was nearly wiped out and no ammo to continue on to the airstrip. thru the smoke came "The Black angels" with ammo and weapons for thier brothers.. that wouldn't be so remarkable except for the Black soldiers weren't allowed to have weapons.That didn't matter to them they went ahead and did what they had to do.bless "the Black Angels"
