oboe is such a beautiful instrument when played well.. people who think it sounds like a dieing duck should hear this. its actually much more beautiful than violin
@ericoschmitt I posted this on my facebook last year and one of my trumpet friends listened to this and he was like," holy shit!, thats what an Oboe is suppose to sound like?"
I realized long ago that He is playing Josef oboe in the beginning. It wasn't until today however, that I remembered the whale is Josef's symbol..... And made the connection between the oboe and that fabulous sweater.
I cant stop listening to this. I am an oboist and this is pure bliss. This piece reminisces of someones state of tranquility and peace... as if overcome by an overarching peace and understanding. And in the background is the most picturesque countryside...
Never conduct with your instruments, especially oboe. You'll break your reed on the next guy's head five beats before your entrance lol. Believe me, I've wiped out a few reeds on my music stand during orchesra rehearsals.
Great performance. Is it just me or does his oboe (in C) seem to have a serious extension? Extra key system attachments maybe?
his oboe in in the first song seems to be a full conservatory oboe along with his english horn i believe. the second song, he is playing the oboe d'amore, which has the bocal and maybe be full conservatory in addition to its obvious extra length
@JStrange13 Totally agree, Mayer is perfection, I can only assume that the 6 people that didn't like it sit at home watching the x-factor thinking it's real music!!!!!!!
aha....but i recognise the difference between an idiot and a good one, that`s better. anyway....you need to study english.....could be is better to speak a correct english than understand a theorbo
so why are you so exigent ? you can`t speak english, and you write in english....so why are you aggressive to me? i didn`t recognise a theorbo....but i didn`t speak about musical instruments...only about the man that`s eating a chewing gum...in a really unprofessional way....what would you f..... tell me ? i don`t understand what you want
English is my native language. I am surprised I mixed up you putting Mandolin and Lute. It's a recording session though, so for making a CD I don't see the problem with chewing gum. Also, I was just joking with you, but then you were just mean.
I am an oboist and today I tried an oboe d'amore for the first time... Mayer's sound is SO much better you wouldn't even know they were the same instrument :)
I just absolutley love this! Albrecht Mayer is most fantastic!. the Oboe, Oboe D'Amore, English Horn and blessedly beautiful instruments. The Basson is great too. I'm a Clarinet player and i long to just even play a single note on the Oboe.
I find interesting that his sound seems a bit brighter than the typical German sound. There is nothing wrong with it, he has a great sound, but not as dark as say a Marigaux sound.

Im sorry but, thats incorrect. The Oboe D'Amore is the Alto Oboe. The English Horn is the equivalent of a Tenor Oboe

From low to high it goes the Heckelphone (Bass), baritone oboe (Baritone), english horn(Tenor), oboe d'amore(alto), and the oboe(soprano).
