How did the few get away without being noticed? Why couldn't more get away? Over 900 hundred people died, it was more of them then the guards and nurses who were administering the poison. I feel the people should have fought more, maybe some would have died from gunshot wounds but maybe over 900 people wouldn't have died. If all of them would have joined with Christine Miller, maybe so many wouldn't have died because there is strength in numbers. They couldn't have killed them all.

That says a lot for his determination to live. I admire the people of Jonestown, because they never stood for hate and violence. This is Stanley Clayton. He was not one of the guards. In fact, he had was regularly persecuted by the Temple. He is thought to be the last young survivor of the mass suicide since he returned that night to get his passport. An old woman slept though the whole thing and discovered the carnage the next day.

The reporter is NBC's Fred Francis who was the first reporter to cover the massacre and originally was supposed to be one of the reporters who entered Jonestown with Leo Ryan but declined the trip and was replaced by Don Harris who was murdereed.

The fact is, Jonestown wasn't just a "mass suicide." Suicide is a voluntary act. These people had no choice to commit the act. Armed guards were around them and they were forced to "drink the kool aid" or were held down and injected with the cyanide. The scariest thing is this, everyone was too afraid to revolt. Just like the people on the planes of the 9/11 hijackings... fear freezes people and that is a horrible thought!

I felt bad for him...and all the survivors /victims. It's easy for reporters and people who were not there to say "how could you let this happen"...but could you imagine being there? With 900 people around you being poisoned, armed guards surrounding you, people screaming, crying, and dying? Who knows how someone would react? I think people didn't struggle because they died on the spot. The poison was so powerful.
Yes, I do believe people who escaped were either appointed or volunteered guards, or maybe those participating in administring the Kool-Aid to others. Or, helping to lay people down. How else would they have survived? How tragic this still is. Tragic.
There were three other people who survived Jonestown. An elderly lady named Hyancinth who hid under her bed. An elderly deaf man who his in a ditch, and a school teacher who hid underneath a shed. None of them were guards or high up in the cult. Hyacinth hated Jones. She died in 1995 at the age of 93.
I found some interesting material on The Jonestown Report if anybody is doing research or seriously concerned on the topic. They have a special 30 year edition out at the moment. A lot of the survivors have written articles.

He actually escaped by running in the jungle after his wife and her family died. In an report a year ago he watched his wife go up and drink the punch. I think these people were experimented on because it was to politically involved. It was also said that truth seriun was found. He was scared and confrused. Some people lost alot of family members there.

This is Stanley Clayton. He was not one of the guards. In fact, he had was regularly persecuted by the Temple. He is thought to be the last young survivor of the mass suicide since he returned that night to get his passport. An old woman slept though the whole thing and discovered the carnage the next day.

Yeah, that reporter tries to act morally superior, as if he would not have let the kids die. Screw him! He wouldn't have done anything, if he were there. At least his guy had the balls to escape past a cross-bow. Jones also made it seem like there was no escape, telling them that the surrounding jungle was just as deadly.

The fact is, Jonestown wasn't just a "mass suicide." Suicide is a voluntary act. These people had no choice to commit the act. Armed guards were around them and they were forced to "drink the kool aid" or were held down and injected with the cyanide. The scariest thing is this, everyone was too afraid to revolt. Just like the people on the planes of the 9/11 hijackings... fear freezes people and that is a horrible thought!

Then (at one point) he started throwing the bible on the ground, and stomping on it, saying that there was no god. That was his transition into atheism. I felt bad for him...and all the survivors /victims. It's easy for reporters and people who were not there to say "how could you let this happen"...but could you imagine being there? With 900 people around you being poisoned, armed guards surrounding you, people screaming, crying, and dying? Who knows how someone would react? I think people didn't struggle because they died on the spot. The poison was so powerful.

Yes, I do believe people who escaped were either appointed or volunteered guards, or maybe those participating in administring the Kool-Aid to others. Or, helping to lay people down. How else would they have survived? How tragic this still is. Tragic.

There were three other people who survived Jonestown. An elderly lady named Hyancinth who hid under her bed. An elderly deaf man who his in a ditch, and a school teacher who hid underneath a shed. None of them were guards or high up in the cult. Hyacinth hated Jones. She died in 1995 at the age of 93.

I found some interesting material on The Jonestown Report if anybody is doing research or seriously concerned on the topic. They have a special 30 year edition out at the moment. A lot of the survivors have written articles.

It's amazing that what ever this man went to Jonestown for, death was not part of it. Really don't think there was anything he could do but save himself. A real tragedy.

But the wikipedia article on Flavor Aid does indeed claim it was "unknown."
Wikipedia isn't the end-all, be all, but I took it to be a common misconception that it was the Kool-Aid brand drink mix.

well seeing is believing and i seen a video of Jones showing his towns food supply...he actually opened a cooler and said.."and heres the koolaide" or something like that and they showed stockpiled koolaide and flavorade....but anyways of course its known what brand was used they just dont tell

Well if they actually showed it (not just said it) that would be convincing. It could have been a mixture of both... since it's basically the same thing, just different brand names.

I wish he would have been more specific about how he escaped. He said he "managed to escape through one of the guards". His face looks guilty after he said that. Guilty, pained or both. Observe. 4:15

you think..maybe he was 1 of Jone's elite guards who got away only because he had a gun? Youd be suprised to find out 3 survivors were found in the jungles with suitcases of millions of dollars...but you know,,theyre innocent victims

I have to agree his story sounds a little untruthful about how he got away. Why would the guards let him pass or not shoot him when he passed them, unless he was a guard or something. I wish he'd be more detailed. I think he's keeping something a secret. Some of the people that got away, must have been guards or something.

you can clearly see that he's in a state of posttraumatic stress, that's the cause of why he doesn't sound too convincing or rational... it happens commonly

He actually escaped by running in the jungle after his wife and her family died. In an report a year ago he watched his wife go up and drink the punch. I think these people were experimented on because it was to politically involved. It was also said that truth seriun was found. He was scared and confrused. Some people lost alot of family members there.

they left this guy out of the survivors of jonestown special last night...its easy to see his is the most honest interview...hes probably 1 of the many survivors to die under suspicious circumstances
