Splitter barely even got any playing time last year. Not only did he not get to develop properly but he didn't even get used to playing with his teammates. When he finally did get legit playing time with TD out he made a huge impact, he was the reason those games 2 games against POR, DEN, and MEM, LA, were even close. He even made a big impact when he replaced Blair in the playoffs. Splitter isn't very athletic but he does a lot of things that don't show up on the stat sheet.
He draws fouls like crazy, in the LA game he drew about 7 fouls from Odom, Kobe, and Bynum. He really knows how to use his body. He also boxes out very well for others to grab the rebound. On defense he's able to stay in front of his man and contest shots, he's got great lateral speed as well which you never see in a 5, he can also score on the Pick and roll like crazy (his specialty). If he got 25 MPG this year he could easily average 10 & 6. He also does the dirty work...
Against POR whenever he guarded Aldrige he pretty much shut him down by himself twice. Splitter needs to work on his shot release because he gets blocked way too much, which he said he was doing this summer.
There were MANY times last year where Hill/Parker could've ran the pick and roll with Splitter but they never passed him the ball prolly because they're not used to playing with him.
Splitter will be a very good big man when he finally gets playing time...
At his peak Splitter will probably average 16 and 10 should he get 30 MPG. He has a lot of potential, if you watched the team USA games he raped Odom and Chandler on the pick and roll. Splitter is a very mobile big and can create his own shot, he just can't finish which is what he's working on. He's also got some pretty good footwork and post moves. If Splitter got playing time last season IMO the Spurs would've won the 'Ship.
He can definitely score, not so much on 1 on 1, but he gets a lot of points off of rebounds, and like I said he specialty is the pick and roll. If you watched Blair in his rookie season you'd have seen him and Manu tearing it up on the pick and roll. Just on the P&R Splitter can score like 10 points a game. He would've easily been a top 10 rookie this year if he did get playing time.
He proved in the playoffs he'd make a big impact, if he had replaced Blair who was getting killed by Randolph the Spurs would've won the series in 5 games easily. Those games were really close mainly because of Blair getting beasted on. The Spurs match up with OKC very well and the Spurs know how to shut down Terry and Kidd and limit Dirk. MIA would've been overwhelmed by our size, they weren't that good. If the Spurs got passed Memphis they would've won the title for sure.
Pop waited too long to play Splitter, they were already down 2-1, those 3 games were very close as well. Each time Blair went in the game he was getting destroyed, Bonner was getting destroyed as well. Splitter would've made a much bigger impact on defense, rebounding, and offense.
It's Pop's fault for not playing Splitter, he chose Blair/Bonner over him and paid for it in the playoffs.
Scola is a whole other story, they couldn't afford to bring him over.
A less talented Spurs team destroyed practically the same Mavs last year, they know how to defend Dirk, Terry and Kidd who were major factors. This Mavs team wasn't THAT good, OKC and MIA gave up monster leads all series long because of their inexperience. LA was over hyped simply because they were LA, they played crappy during the regular season and continued to do so in the playoffs. POR was only good because Batum played like a beast towards the end of the season...
And then choked in the playoffs. He was missing easy shots, shots that weren't even contested, shots he made during the regular season.
Memphis though matched up with us because they pounded the ball down low, they raped our small guards (Hill played SG/SF/PG) Hill and Neal with their size on offense defense and rebounding. They would've beaten Dallas as well, they would've came in with the exact same game plan they used to defeat us.
Splitter makes the Spurs a complete team. Way better mix this season for the Spurs. The Veterans Duncan, Parker, Manu, McDyess, and RJ. Up and coming players in Hill and Blair. Shootters in Bonner, Gary Neal, James Anderson. And now add Splitter, who could a poor man's Duncan with his low post work and defense, excellent at pick and rolls, with a dash of Manu's passing ability. Spurs should be very good this season. One of the Top 4 teams in the West this season.

@djaz4 I live in San Antonio also.......... and you be a fool if you think San Antonio cant still win it all. Duncan might be old but still one of the best power forwards in the game. Ginobli & Parker still can score and take it to the basket even if they are old and banged up...... How you think the spurs got to the second round fool....... hope and dreams............ I mean we get splitter and beef up our bench a little bit more we will be back in the championship before duncan retires.
@jtweezy99 Negative. It doesn't work that way. Being a homer doesn't win championships. Having young talent does. You see people in San Antonio are not basketball fans they are Spur fans. That is the reason they will never get a Kobe or D Wade. When the Spurs are out or when they suck spur fan will not watch basketball. How stupid was it in 2007 when Spur fans didn't sell out the first game of the west con finals. That was Pathetic. You Think Lebron or Kobe want a fan base like that. NO WAY!!!
@djaz4 Orlando and Cleveland have young talent ..do you see championship rings on there fingers..I arrest my case..You got to have some vets in the team also (which the spurs have) not just some young talent..look at the Oklahoma city thunder for example....no veterans...look where they ended up..You think Kobe and Wade got there by themselves...naw my dude every championship they won they had a player that complimented them.... who cares about fan base as long as you win rings fool
@jtweezy99 Did you read my words. Boston is toast but they will be back because they are a BIG market. They have 17 rings to prove it. The ONLY reason Spurs have 4 rings is cuz of Duncan. He was special. But now what? David and the Ice man both sucked ass. it was all Tim. What is this team gonna be without Tim..... The Clippers. HA HA!! Hell San Antonio almost lost the team in the 90s. You better worry about the fan base if you want to keep your team.
@djaz4 Yeah ok....well then Boston better worry about there fan base because you know boston fans aint waitin that long for them to build a team back up again... yeah i read your words but they makin no sense. Yeah it was all tim (idiot).. you keep thinkin that..at least i know ur not a spurs fan..give splitter and richards together a few years they will get better along with hill and anderson..... cant say the same for boston cuz they have nobody...... back to the dark ages for celtic fans.
@jtweezy99 Well I guess your not that bad after all. Utep miners rock. The only college basketball team to win the NCAA tourny. Leave it to someone else from El Paso to go head to head with me.
@jtweezy99 Dude seriously?? There is a reason the Spurs championship series got some of the lowest ratings. NOBODY cares about your team. You think your gonna compete for star players. Sorry but the Spurs have no chance of landing a line up like the lakers or boston. You may get one who just wants to get paid but not three or four. Spurs got lucky with Tim and with a couple of euros. But that was it LUCK. Pop is no Phil and will have reality slap him across the head in the next two years HA HA!
@djaz4 Retard Im done talkin to ur dumbass... you keep bringin up boston..... when you just said there toast.... and there gonna be toast for the next 10 years so plz dont bring them up again..... lakers got lucky with gasol because memphis doesnt know how to trade ppl for value.. only reason why they made it back to the championship...u obviously dont know what the hell your talkin about so I advise you go out in the middle of the street and KILL YO SELF LOL!!!! before its too late.
@djaz4 How dare you put Boston as one of the good teams............ if you watch ur basketball like you suppose to you would see that boston has the same situation as the spurs pierce, allen and garnett are way to damn old........... thats pretty much there whole team............ to be honest allen is not coming back and pierce might jus opt out of his contract and garnett doesnt even have the legs no more..... they didnt do much drafting either............ Boston is toast. LOL!!!!!
@jtweezy99 Your right Boston is Toast for now but they are a big market and will be back alot sooner than the Spurs. The spurs are toast as well and with a shity fan base, they will be toast forever. Sucks to be a Spur fan especially when Kobe has 5 rings, and with four in the 2000s makes them the team of the decade. Kobe and Fish continue to bitch slap the spurs. Over and Over.
@djaz4 Boy where are you getting your information at....Boston will have a better chance of getting players from the Boston Market grocery store..the spurs are going to be way better then boston next year are you kidding me...did read the words that i typed on the computer lol!!!! Allen aint comin back, pierce is opting out and garnett doesnt have it anymore.. rondo cant shoot...spurs did much better then boston in the draft...Need I say more...have you heard anybody going to boston lately...no
@jtweezy99 Lakers didn't get lucky. Players want to play in these big markets because they don't have piece of shit band wagon fans like the spurs. I bet You hate the mavs but love the cowboys. Now thats retarded. Your also a longhorn fan along with an astros/rangers fan depending on how good thier doin but hate the texans and the Rockets. Top ten city but only have the spurs. Thats Pathetic!! Get use to it the Spurs got bounced in a sweep now and forever.
@djaz4 Lakers got lucky............. take gasol out the picture and you have a 2007 laker team where kobe starts the crying again.......... trade me trade me lookin ass...... as for you i went to utep so im not a longhorn fan and i dont like the cowboys...... so get ya facts trust busta!!!
man whats retarded is your talking about TWO different sports kid. basketball is basketball and football is football....."i bet you hate the mavs but love the cowboys" hahahaha.... that was a bullshit trade the lakers got gasol for nothing! but its alright, were getting our shit together so we will see yall soon enough.... you dont see timmy d crying and saying i want a trade i want a trade, kobe is a bitch and cant do NOTHING with out a big man.
I hope they do, it's gonna take a big chunk of the Spurs' MLE which decreases our chances of signing someone else. If the Spurs don't give him the money he wants (Somewhere around 5 years for $30 mill), he can sign with another Euro team for more money and for around 5 years!
Pros of signing: If we lock him up with MLE for that many years there is a good chance he outplays his contract which means we have him for cheap.
Cons: We have no idea how good he'll be in the NBA
I think there is a good chance he is coming. Splitters team offerd him an extsion for about 5 years but he said he was flatered but his intenations are to play in the NBA. That is great news for the spurs and there is a reason they have been only working out guards. I belevie he is comign and he is a legit strater. he is better than picks 4 and on in the NBA draft he will really help take pressure of Duncan I have watched him play he is a very good player.
By the way this was 4 years ago his game has evouled much more. He is a very smart defensive player and he can defend the pick and roll well. That is what killed us in last years playoffs with Nash and Stoudemire. Plus he is moblie enough to gurad guys like Gasol and wings like Fry who also was a big reason why the spurs lost to the suns. His offensive game is a lot like Duncans with hook shots and post up. Basically he is a big that plays like a big.
Yep, Splitter is a beast I watched him play last year. Splitter said if the Spurs want him they'll have to put up the right amount of money (most of their MLE), doing this will leave the Spurs with very few options to sign a good player. I'm sure they'll reach an agreement though. Splitter will be the 1st legit center the Spurs have had since Elson. Splitter's defense will make a big impact now that they have a legit center that can shoot and defend very well.
I want you all to remember this: A good friend of mine, who played with the Lakers and played in europe some told me: Splitter is mentally weak and in the NBA they will always talk him out of his game. PLus he is slow.
You must have your facts wrong. Maybe some of what you say is true about Splitter in this video but this was 4 years ago. He is much improved and mentlley weak? The dude just won MVP of the ACB league and took over games when his team nedded him too. He is a legit starter and will be coming to the spurs this year.
This guy doesn't seem really athletic. He plays a power game in Europe, which wont translate well in the NBA against stronger talent. He reminds me of David Anderson without an outside shot, which makes him very limited in his ability to contribute, id rather invest a larger role into Dejuan Blair.
This guy is very good I have been tracking him since the spurs drafted him. He is coming over to the spurs this summer and he is better than blair with an all round game maybe not rebouding but all around. By the way this video is 4 years old. He is much better now. This guy is a good defensive player and great offensvie player and he just won the MVP of ACB. The ACB league is not a pushover either at the very least he will be a soild starter.
he'll be in SA next year. the spurs are to be pretty desperate for more youthful big men after this year. really, we've needed more young big men for a grip. having duncan, mahinmi, blair and splitter would be soooo hard. i don't think the spurs are going to make a scola-like mistake again. we coulda used that dude.
To bad Splitter just isn't that good man. Don't get me wrong I love the Spurs, but Splitter is 7Ft and weighs a whole 245. Not to mention he only averages 13 or 15 points and 6 RB's a game in a lesser league. The Spurs better just trade this guy's rights.
I hope I mean the spanish team has offered him 13.5 million dollars and all we can do is 5 million. Yet, if he comes here he can play in a more competitive league, and will be adored by every single person in san antonio, like all the other spurs are.
this video is really old. his low post game is very improved, is the best interior defender in Europe, is a very goog low-post scorer and this season was the leader of the most competive team in Europe. GORA TAU!!!!
well, he'd have to have a tremendous desire to play in the NBA because, with the rookie contract he's locked into with the Spurs, he'd have to take something like a 70% paycut from his current salary for four years. it's an unfortunate situation, because he's probably an NBA starter right now.
Actually, there is a loophole of sorts which would allow SA to offer more than the rookie cap if they wait until next year... something to do with him not playing in the ncaa or the team for a certain length of time... there should be a good chance of seeing him in SA at some point
Dammit. I can't believe he chose more money over an NBA championship contender in the Spurs. He could have been a great ingredient. Damn Tau Ceramica.
should have came 2 the spurs instead of staying,i know he is makin money over there, but in the long run it would of paid off to come to the NBA already.for1,he could learn from the best PF ever to play the game, and 2 he can learn from the best fundamental player ever, from the way it looks splitter has some athletic abililty but not great and he would benefit from learning from duncan who was never to much of a high flyer himself!!! of and lets not forget 3rd...A CHANCE TO WIN A NBA TITTLE!!!
Tiago will most likely play two more years in Spain. Oberto and Thomas will most likely hang around with Horry retiring. Ian Mahinmi should get some time with the Spurs next season but Tiago probably won't be around for a few years. Ian has been pretty impressive in the DLeague, he was an allstar, all dleague first team and a definite mvp candidate. They are both tall and very talented, it's hard to tell how good they are as they are still developing.

RC Buford (Spurs GM) is the standard for being a GM in professional sports. Splitter was supposed to be a top 10 pick but everybody else needed their draft pick to perform now. San Antonio lucked out with this one considering how deep the draft was, otherwise teams might have wanted to wait that year. Can't wait to see how he plays for SA.
another great pick by the spurs, they can wait for him to mature in the euroleague like manu and then immediately contribute when he eventually joins the spurs. My gripe is how come scola (also drafted by the spurs) never came over to the nba?
scola has a ridiculous buy-out from Tau. It's been going on for years. Splitter's would be $1M next year and the Spurs GM thinks it won't be too much of a problem to handle that.
Strengths: Few players his size run the court as well as he does ... Because of this he regularly beats opposing forwards down the court for quick scores ... Possesses refined post footwork ... Combine that with Splitter's body control and you have someone who has no trouble getting his shot off in the post ... An above average rebounder.
I've seen very little of Splitter but what I have seen makes me think pass. He does not seem ready yet and he is certainly not a sure thing. He is average agility for a four his size and below average strength and explosivness. I would not want my team to draft him.
Look for the 76ers to go after Jeff Green of Georgetown. I think the Pistons will get Splitter with the 15th pick. I don't know who would be a better pick Splitter or Josh Mcroberts of Duke, I can't remember the last Duke product that amounted to anything...Carlos Boozer??

as a spurs fan i question splitters athleticism seriously
i would even trade the guy if the spurs could get a potential first round draft pick
splitter can set screens pass and sometimes rebound but as far as finishing at the basket in the nba i think hes just not athletic or crafty enough
id rather the spurs go with an athletic undersized post player over splitter

i dont see splitter getting that many shot attempts under pops new offense
parker gino duncan neal/anderson 5th option splitter
that means hes gonna have to get points off of boards
we will see what splitter can do this upcoming season
to say that the spurs would have won the championship is giving splitter way too much credit when
he still has to prove himself

@XxHooksxX what are you talking about? splitter bonner and mcdyess got more minutes than blair did in the playoffs
blair was in popovichs dog house during the series
splitter did play pretty decent for the spurs during the series but thats not what makes spurs fans mad
its that they waited for long for splitter to get to the spurs and let scola slip away to houston
splitter was way overhyped and was expected to have a major impact for the spurs

Pop is no Phil and will have reality slap him across the head in the next two years HA HA!
djaz4 1 year ago
@djaz4 Retard Im done talkin to ur dumbass... you keep bringin up boston..... when you just said there toast.... and there gonna be toast for the next 10 years so plz dont bring them up again..... lakers got lucky with gasol because memphis doesnt know how to trade ppl for value.. only reason why they made it back to the championship...u obviously dont know what the hell your talkin about so I advise you go out in the middle of the street and KILL YO SELF LOL!!!! before its too late.
jtweezy99 1 year ago
@djaz4 How dare you put Boston as one of the good teams............ if you watch ur basketball like you suppose to you would see that boston has the same situation as the spurs pierce, allen and garnett are way to damn old........... thats pretty much there whole team............ to be honest allen is not coming back and pierce might jus opt out of his contract and garnett doesnt even have the legs no more..... they didnt do much drafting either............ Boston is toast. LOL!!!!!
jtweezy99 1 year ago
@jtweezy99 Your right Boston is Toast for now but they are a big market and will be back alot sooner than the Spurs. The spurs are toast as well and with a shity fan base, they will be toast forever. Sucks to be a Spur fan especially when Kobe has 5 rings, and with four in the 2000s makes them the team of the decade. Kobe and Fish continue to bitch slap the spurs. Over and Over.
djaz4 1 year ago
@djaz4 Boy where are you getting your information at....Boston will have a better chance of getting players from the Boston Market grocery store..the spurs are going to be way better then boston next year are you kidding me...did read the words that i typed on the computer lol!!!! Allen aint comin back, pierce is opting out and garnett doesnt have it anymore.. rondo cant shoot...spurs did much better then boston in the draft...Need I say more...have you heard anybody going to boston lately...no
jtweezy99 1 year ago
@jtweezy99 Lakers didn't get lucky. Players want to play in these big markets because they don't have piece of shit band wagon fans like the spurs. I bet You hate the mavs but love the cowboys. Now thats retarded. Your also a longhorn fan along with an astros/rangers fan depending on how good thier doin but hate the texans and the Rockets. Top ten city but only have the spurs. Thats Pathetic!! Get use to it the Spurs got bounced in a sweep now and forever.
djaz4 1 year ago
@djaz4 Lakers got lucky............. take gasol out the picture and you have a 2007 laker team where kobe starts the crying again.......... trade me trade me lookin ass...... as for you i went to utep so im not a longhorn fan and i dont like the cowboys...... so get ya facts trust busta!!!
jtweezy99 1 year ago
@djaz4
man whats retarded is your talking about TWO different sports kid. basketball is basketball and football is football....."i bet you hate the mavs but love the cowboys" hahahaha.... that was a bullshit trade the lakers got gasol for nothing! but its alright, were getting our shit together so we will see yall soon enough.... you dont see timmy d crying and saying i want a trade i want a trade, kobe is a bitch and cant do NOTHING with out a big man.

Are you kidding about Elson? He sucked. Tiago is light-years in front of Elson. The Spurs would be a much better team than when they had Elson.

ohh and breaking news spurs will sighn him in july
thehermanator210 1 year ago
@thehermanator210
XxHooksxX 1 year ago
@XxHooksxX
I think there is a good chance he is coming. Splitters team offerd him an extsion for about 5 years but he said he was flatered but his intenations are to play in the NBA. That is great news for the spurs and there is a reason they have been only working out guards. I belevie he is comign and he is a legit strater. he is better than picks 4 and on in the NBA draft he will really help take pressure of Duncan I have watched him play he is a very good player.
scatman813 1 year ago
@XxHooksxX
Basically he is a big that plays like a big.
scatman813 1 year ago
@scatman813
XxHooksxX 1 year ago
I want you all to remember this: A good friend of mine, who played with the Lakers and played in europe some told me: Splitter is mentally weak and in the NBA they will always talk him out of his game. PLus he is slow.
RikAmmo 1 year ago
@RikAmmo
You must have your facts wrong. Maybe some of what you say is true about Splitter in this video but this was 4 years ago. He is much improved and mentlley weak? The dude just won MVP of the ACB league and took over games when his team nedded him too. He is a legit starter and will be coming to the spurs this year.
scatman813 1 year ago

This guy doesn't seem really athletic. He plays a power game in Europe, which wont translate well in the NBA against stronger talent. He reminds me of David Anderson without an outside shot, which makes him very limited in his ability to contribute, id rather invest a larger role into Dejuan Blair.
Alex40869 1 year ago
@Alex40869
The ACB league is not a pushover either at the very least he will be a soild starter.
scatman813 1 year ago
he'll be in SA next year. the spurs are to be pretty desperate for more youthful big men after this year. really, we've needed more young big men for a grip. having duncan, mahinmi, blair and splitter would be soooo hard. i don't think the spurs are going to make a scola-like mistake again. we coulda used that dude.
jimbswindell 2 years ago
To bad Splitter just isn't that good man. Don't get me wrong I love the Spurs, but Splitter is 7Ft and weighs a whole 245. Not to mention he only averages 13 or 15 points and 6 RB's a game in a lesser league. The Spurs better just trade this guy's rights.
denveraic 2 years ago
they dont have the cap space. why would he go to the spurs for only 5 mill?
benbo111 1 year ago
@benbo111 it is his dream to plaay in nba and if hes good he will be makin way more then that only time will tell
thehermanator210 1 year ago
I hope I mean the spanish team has offered him 13.5 million dollars and all we can do is 5 million. Yet, if he comes here he can play in a more competitive league, and will be adored by every single person in san antonio, like all the other spurs are.
RockyBalboa211 1 year ago
@jimbswindell the Spurs won't be able to pay Tiago Splitter.

Rumor has it he's going to play for the Spurs for the 2009-2010 season. Though as a Spurs fan that might be wishful thinking.
heels23fan 2 years ago 2
is he for sure not coming over or is there still a chance?
spursboy09 2 years ago
well, he'd have to have a tremendous desire to play in the NBA because, with the rookie contract he's locked into with the Spurs, he'd have to take something like a 70% paycut from his current salary for four years. it's an unfortunate situation, because he's probably an NBA starter right now.
rebelsun 2 years ago
Actually, there is a loophole of sorts which would allow SA to offer more than the rookie cap if they wait until next year... something to do with him not playing in the ncaa or the team for a certain length of time... there should be a good chance of seeing him in SA at some point
eltouche 2 years ago
It's hardly 'unfortunate', even the NBA rookie salary is better than most of us here will earn.

should have came 2 the spurs instead of staying,i know he is makin money over there, but in the long run it would of paid off to come to the NBA already.for1,he could learn from the best PF ever to play the game, and 2 he can learn from the best fundamental player ever, from the way it looks splitter has some athletic abililty but not great and he would benefit from learning from duncan who was never to much of a high flyer himself!!! of and lets not forget 3rd...A CHANCE TO WIN A NBA TITTLE!!!

rohanroken 3 years ago
Hi there, Big Spurs fan here. ARe both Mahinmi and Tiago ready for next year? How tall are they and how good are they? Thanks.
trevinboy 3 years ago
Tiago will most likely play two more years in Spain. Oberto and Thomas will most likely hang around with Horry retiring. Ian Mahinmi should get some time with the Spurs next season but Tiago probably won't be around for a few years. Ian has been pretty impressive in the DLeague, he was an allstar, all dleague first team and a definite mvp candidate. They are both tall and very talented, it's hard to tell how good they are as they are still developing.
blackpanther177 3 years ago
I'm a huge spurs fan, and I'll be suprised if Ian even makes it to the All-star rookie/sophomore team.

Can't wait to see how he plays for SA.

eyewishwalrus 4 years ago
another great pick by the spurs, they can wait for him to mature in the euroleague like manu and then immediately contribute when he eventually joins the spurs. My gripe is how come scola (also drafted by the spurs) never came over to the nba?
tontonpacute 4 years ago
scola has a ridiculous buy-out from Tau. It's been going on for years. Splitter's would be $1M next year and the Spurs GM thinks it won't be too much of a problem to handle that.

Im guessing the Suns will pick him up with their late 1st round pick. He could do well in their style of play.
OGeoclipseO 4 years ago
Strengths: Few players his size run the court as well as he does ... Because of this he regularly beats opposing forwards down the court for quick scores ... Possesses refined post footwork ... Combine that with Splitter's body control and you have someone who has no trouble getting his shot off in the post ... An above average rebounder.
A BRAZILIAN PJ BROWN!
tytr 4 years ago
I've seen very little of Splitter but what I have seen makes me think pass. He does not seem ready yet and he is certainly not a sure thing. He is average agility for a four his size and below average strength and explosivness. I would not want my team to draft him.
JoeKnows44 4 years ago
Look for the 76ers to go after Jeff Green of Georgetown. I think the Pistons will get Splitter with the 15th pick. I don't know who would be a better pick Splitter or Josh Mcroberts of Duke, I can't remember the last Duke product that amounted to anything...Carlos Boozer??
