  • I gotta do this to mine :O

  • @JakeDaSnakeFilms

It's a pretty easy swap, especially if you delete the EGR. The two hardest things are the heater hoses and radiator hoses.

  • @Elvishfireball are the header/exhaust manifold bolt holes the same on a 4V 4.6?

  • @JakeDaSnakeFilms Bolt holes, yes they are pretty much the same on any engine. The manifolds themselves are different.

  • I wonder if the temp gauge works

  • @428mark7

It didn't. Never could figure out why either. It was working for a few days after the swap, then just stopped.

  • ...was the temp gauge not hooked up?....or were you just doing this on a cold motor?

  • @ROBBY639

    Temp gauge wasn't functional.

  • nice swap man! car sounds amazing! i have a 96gt automatic and a friend has a 96 mark8 engine swap with wire harness and computer.what do i need to get this in there and can u send me the link please i would really appreciate it! thanks again!

  • hi was wonder if u cant send me link too plz i just bought a 98 markVII 4V that im puttin into 96 gt just lil help thanks

  • can I get that Link too. I just pulled my motor

  • @anewlife777

Sent you a message with it.

  • I just ran a 13.591 this last Saturday at the track in my Lincoln. I can't wait to get it on the dyno next year. I should be able to get low 13s out of it all naturally aspirated on an untouched motor and I should be one of the fastest NA Mark VIIIs out there. Next year will be very exciting. :-)

  • Nice! MInd sending the swap details my way? I may go this route in the future.

  • I am looking to do this swap into a 96 v6 car. I am gonna buy a whole mark VIII and swap. What do I need to fit this into the mustang?? You said something about manifolds and EGR?? BTW the car runs sweet!!

  • @000JERRY0000

I am thinking that something is getting lost in translation here, because I am answering what you are asking. "Do you need two camshafts to have 4 valves per cylinder?" No, you don't need two camshafts to have 4 valves per cylinder. "To have 4 valves, does it have to be a DOHC engine?" No, it does not have to be a DOHC to have 4 valves per cylinder.

  • @000JERRY0000

No, you don't need two camshafts to have 4 valves per cylinder. The suzuki 1.3L 4 cylinder is a SOHC engine with 4 valves per cylinder.

  • @Elvishfireball splayed rocker arms.

  • @000JERRY0000

Not necessarily, I have seen a few exceptions in 4 cylinder cars, but in Ford V8's, yeah 4V is DOHC.

  • im about to do this in my '01 gt. does the lincoln oil pan and exhaust manifolds fit in the mustang or did you have to change stuff around? thanks

  • @muscletruckdude

No, the lincoln oil pan is different and the exhaust manifold on the drivers side has a cat converter on it. The passenger side will work for the mustang.

  • @Elvishfireball thanks man, anything else i should be worried about?

  • @muscletruckdude

EGR pipe and heater hoses are the biggest issues. Sending you a link to my step by step guide.

  • @Elvishfireball can i grab a link as well too bud? im very interested in this swapp!

  • I'm doin the same swap what all did you need

  • @TheKILLERSN95

It's pretty much a direct replacement. Just have to figure out the heater hoses and lengthen a few wires.

  • ok thank you 4 the quik response i will try tommorrow and let you know

  • yes the 2 top bolts from the bellhousing thank you

  • @rj00130

Yeah, you need two long extensions, a swivel and the socket. Remove the transmission cross member to get some tilt, then you will be able to see them and break em loose.

  • Hi i have a 97 mustang gt im tring to change the clutch on but there r 2 dam screws all the way on the top that i cant get too any hints anyone thank you

  • @rj00130

Need to be a bit more specific. There are a few bolts that it can be. Starter bolts? Bellhousing bolts? Most are just using a swivel and a few extensions.

  • Hi i have a 97 mustang gt im tring to change the clutch on but there r 2 dam screws all the way on the top yhat i cant get too any hits anyone thank you

  • 5.5 seconds

  • @Billselcomino1978

Yeah, she was damned quick. 3.73's would have made a ton of difference. It was a nice upgrade for $500.

  • I would spin that engine closer to 7000 to take full advantage of it, it is a screamer unline a 2V 4.6.

  • @gtdrummerdude

It was still on the GT tune, so the fuel cut out at 6K RPM.

  • @Elvishfireball I messaged you before about the swap... Im currently doing mine i noticed you kept your intake manifold, Did you also keep the cams?

I switched to the cobra cams and cobra intake manifold i also am doing full exhaust and full bolt ons i just dropped the engine in yesterday I was wondering what wires you have to extend and splice to get them to work correctly all i have to do is wire everything up and im kinda worried lol

  • @xtreme3484

I kept everything stock on the engine. The IAC wires, the EGR flow sensor wires, and coolant temperature wires should be everything. I wouldn't be worried, everything should be fine.

  • @Elvishfireball So those three i have to extend a little? about how much would you say? And im just hoping this engine is way faster then my gt one.

  • @xtreme3484

Not much, like 3-6 inches. I had a 98 GT, PI swap, Full exhaust with LT headers, 3.73 gears, underdrive pullies and a BBK Throttle body. The 4V blew it out of the water with 3.27 gears, stock exhaust, and stock motor.

  • @gtdrummerdude The rods and pistons in the Mark VIII engine are not designed to go 7K rpms. Plus, the power curve on the dyno will show that the peak hp dies off well before 7K rpms. Before my intake swap, my peak hp was around 6000 rpms. It might be a bit higher now with the Cobra intake but my current 6500 rpm shifts are even too much. Shifting at the top of the powerband is key.

  • @MrHotrodlincoln Well I have a little insight on powerbands and shift points. My car made max power at 5500 rpm and fell off hard right after that, yet it gets the best ET and trap speed by shifting right at 6000 rpm. This is after much testing over the course of more than 300 passes. The REAL key is shifting at an rpm that will bring the engine to it's best spot in the NEXT gear i.e. shifting at 6000 rpm in second brings the engine to 4200 in third instead of shifting at 5500 and getting 3700.

  • @gtdrummerdude Sure, that makes sense. Shifting at 7000 rpms doesn't though is all I'm saying and I'm willing to bet it is more wasted time and energy than anything when you could have been shifting under more power a long time ago which in this case is 1000 rpms ago. Either way, I think a dyno sheet will put you in the ballpark. I'm just saying that I would be very leery of running the rpms up that high unless this engine was forged. Nice Fox BTW. Love those cars. ;-)

  • Hey! You stole my engine! LOL J/K man Hey, you should check out the Lincoln on my channel anyhow. Once I get the tune nailed down better with the lock-up schedule and shift points, she's really gonna rip. I recently swapped the Cobra intake and got 4.30s put in. She chirps them into 3rd gear at 80 mph. :-)

  • slow accurate shifting is better than fast and sloppy.

  • So stock GT tune on the stock GT computer and it runs fine? What did you do with the IMRCs? I was going to do this swap to my stang but I sold all the parts as I bought a Firebird. Nice vid and good work.

  • @mxt2s

Yep runs great. I just wired them open with zip ties because I was on a low budget build, the best thing is to get IMRC delete plates. The Firebird is a nice car, but they are such a pain to work on, I did the head gasket on a 3.8L one and it was a nightmare. Thanks.

  • @Elvishfireball Haha yeah the Firebird doesn't have the best engine bay setup. Luckily its not really my DD as I still have the Mustang and its easy to work on now that the A/C and smog equipment is out of it. Nice vid and thanks for the info. I sold my swap to some kid that will appreciate the information.

  • @mxt2s

I actually have a step by step guide of everything that I did and how to do it. I will send you the info.

  • i would bet my right nut this stang would crush your 98 pi swapped mustang

  • @halohadel

On the highway, absolutely. From a dig.... I am not sure. I could run with 2010 Camaro SS automatics with the 4V so long as it was on the highway. The PI is a low torque monster. There was a lot more that went into the decision of getting the 98 though, lower miles and more comfort were among them.

  • shit im dissapointed its kinda slow. not picking on your satng but constructive critisim. it sounds like somthings holding it back. it doesnt seem responsive but could just be that motor

  • @89iroc350

One of the biggest problems is the gearing. 3.27's just don't cut it with that motor. Even still, it was deceptively quick especially at highway speeds. One identical to mine put down 276/288, so the power is there, it's just getting to it.

  • @Elvishfireball that does make sense. because the motor sounds ballsy, and its slugish. have you changed the gearing yet? or plan to

  • @89iroc350

Nah, I sold the car. Got a 98 GT and did a PI swap, LT headers, 3.73's, UDP, ORH, and Flows. The Mark VIII swapped one had more highway power, but my new one has all of it's power down low. On a side note, my mom drives and 89 Iroc-z 5.7L.

  • @Elvishfireball thats sweet! and haha i sold my 89 way back and got an 88 with the 5.7 tpi in it. i did a shit load of work to it. it was a rocket but i sold that and bought an 02 maxima 3.5 6 speed stick. that was better on the highway. but it was stolen. so now im going back to musscle. im waiting on a bank loan to go thru so i can pick up my 01 trans am ws6 =]

  • @89iroc350

Nice! Hers is all stock and staying that way. If I had anything to say about it, it would be a beast, but she wants it original. I love the LS1 cars. My friend had a C5 vette, thing was a beast.

  • @Elvishfireball oh yes those c5's screw. im just so excited to get my bird. i was realy looking for the firehawk. you never see those around. but then again you dont see to many nice camaro ss or trans ams either.

  • @89iroc350

You and me both man. Been looking for a Firehawk for a long time now. There was one last year, an 02, it only had like 36K on it, 6 speed, red, etc. They only wanted like 15K for it. I wanted it BAD, but I just couldn't scrape the money.

  • omg

  • i have a 96 mustang gt auto tranny and in the differntial tag it has the numbers 3L27 does that mean it has 3.27 gears. did 96 mustangs came with 3.27 from the factory??????????????

  • @cobraj7

Yes, the GT's came with 3.27's stock.

  • i'm considering doing the same swap. what did you need to complete yours? (such as intake manifolds, PCM, wiring harnesses and things like that)

    thanks!

  • @SuperDakota6

I wrote a complete step by step guide to swapping it. You can check it out here:

  • @Elvishfireball

hey thanks a lot bro. really found it helpful

  • Nice. Well lemme know when ya get some numbers. Think you will break 300?

  • Will do. I doubt that it will be at 300 to the wheels. The motor is rated at 290HP, but the Mark VIII exhaust is restrictive, so I am figuring about 300 at the crank with the ported cobra manifolds. I would be happy with 250-260 to the wheels. Not a horsepower junkie, I just wanted more power than the NPI.

  • @Elvishfireball

Well you chose the right motor for the job. :-D

  • @MrHotrodlincoln

Damn straight. 290HP, Teksid block, and $219 out the door.

  • @Elvishfireball

Damn good deal. Now go play with some Cobras. :-)

  • im hoping that temp gauge isn't functional lol. If it's the mark 8 motor btw then you can rev it a lot higher than that.

  • Yeah, I hadn't gotten the second temperature sensor installed yet. It was at operating temperature. The GT tune won't allow it to rev over 6K, the A/F ratio zeroes out and it bogs quickly. Besides, the Mark VIII redlines at 6K too, lack of a forged crank I am sure.

  • @Elvishfireball oh does it? I thought it had the Cobra crank. Oh well, better than a non pi 2 valve either way. Have you had it dynoed yet/

  • No, they have the cobra heads, block, pistons, and rods, but the crank is a cast crank with 6 bolt flywheel. Not like it matters that much since I have seen the stock crank take over 500RWHP. Haven't dynoed yet, tires are gears take priority over it.

  • @Elvishfireball my 96 mark hit's 7200 before rev limiter the gen 1 was a bit faster than the gen2 97 98 very nice job! u can see my mark under mark viii burnout 2nd page the title is my friend jason's lincoln burnout ! my possi is in it now! and it still does the same thing! lol

  • @jrockmk8

I would rev to at least 6300RPM, but I am still on the GT tune, so it 0's out the fuel table at 6K rpm.

  • @Elvishfireball o I c ok that would explain it lol nice ride and take care of it ! lol

  • @zackomac

7,000 rpm is a good number with an SCT tune. Imagine what that would do to an older Northstar. :-P

  • wat trans did yoou use???? were you able to use the same trans?

  • T-45 5 speed that was hooked up to the 2V.

  • is that the stock tranny that comes in the gt?

  • Yep, stock 5 speed.

  • kick ass...
