  • Sinicization - but the horse racing is amazing !

  • I understand that Tibetans have to learn chinese. They have no choice.

But I don't understand why so much tibetan songs sound now chinese!

Tibetan music doesn't need to become chinese. Keep your music alive.

Tuvans or Buryats in Siberia have kept there traditionnal music. It doesn't sound at all like russian music. Why tibetan music should become chinese?

  • Freedom for Tibet and Tibetans. This is a Chinese, not a Tibetan song, and that is Chinese writing, not Tibetan writing. China illegally and with great blood shed invaded Tibet years ago, and never left. It does not mean Tibet really belongs to China.

  • I feel for the pony too. This guys pressing down on the horse back before they hang down is very very hard on horses' backs. Also horses falling on full swing like this causes damage to horses' organs. Something to talk about!

  • Heaven forbids if some litigious American visitors get to participate in this race. Any accident (usually due to their own idiocy) & the entire eastern Kham will have to pay through their noses in comps.

  • This beautiful song "Fellows of Khampa" was penned by a good Chinese friend of Yadon.

  • Lyric: The real khampa men in my heart

their foreheads are engraved with stories of their ancestors

their happy laughter echoes above clouds

their hearts are grand grasslands filled with ambition and love

even not appreciated by their women, their soul soars free

the sound of horse tramping rises from their veins

the sacred sunshine sparkles in their eyes

when a song of highland barley wine arises from their hearts

the whole world is in their hands, in their hands

  • this LAYGPOT is backward minded person who doesnt seem to be happy seeing tibetans prosper, getting education, or being successful. his posts are either hateful, derogatory, condescending, or always criticizing.

  • These guys are amazing and their little horses are just GREAT! Thanks for uploading such a powerful video, hope this festival won't be banned anymore, hope and pray for all of you,in and outside Tibet! Bod gyalo!

  • proud to be a Tibetan.....!

  • Great video. It saddens me that this beautiful festival is banned by the CCP because "it poses threat" to their lies. What a shame!

    VICTORY FOR TIBET!!

  • Great vid !!!

  • 大開眼界,真正英雄好漢子;亦要贊揚匹匹好馬。

  • tashi delek...thank you nice see my home lithang and festival i love, shame chinese ban it this year that sucks down with chinese rule

    BOD GYAL

    Tenzin dickyi :)

  • these ponys are small but incredibly suited for the terrain. These guys are bending over to pick up khatas scarves at full gallop. The more the more succesful one is. In some races like kyiku they jumpon and off and do head stand in full gallop. I havent even seen mongolian horsemen do that.

  • brave khampa....i really appreciate their bravery i am a tibetan but not khampa i wish i was khampa the name has its own value..............goodluck khampas from kham

  • i wish i can do that. hahahaahhaha but i dont want to break my back. :] this is the part of Tibet my grandma was born.

  • with the price of oil

    these guys are on

    to something

  • amazing

  • Excellent horsemanship!!

Lithang has always been famous for its superb horsemanship. The men are brave and a bit "wild" even among the naturally wild khampas. May be that explains a lot of these dare-devil acts. I would hate to be married to one ...you never can be sure what can go wrong...

  • why are they falling like that? it seems bad for the horse, just wanted to know?

  • Long live Chushi Gangdruk and all the grand sons of Gompo Tashi Adrugtsan of Lithang!!!

    Free Tibet! Free China!

  • Real cowboys. Unlike American cowboys who are mostly showmen rather than real cattlemen.

  • Poor horses! It can't be good for their backs no matter how 'tough' they are.

I do admire the skill though of actually staying on!

  • I agree. It must be hard on the horses.

  • Long live Chu -chi gang-druk!!!

    Palden Lhamo la chak-tsel-lo.

  • damn it, miss ma hometown, i wish i can just get in this video:(

  • fucking chinese

  • These are the same horses used by Mongols during their empire. These horses are frugal, arduous, somewhat wily, and tread safely in rough terrain. They are kept roaming free, and only a small number of riding animals get caught and tethered. Once the animal has become familiarized with carrying a rider, it will be calm, friendly, and very reliable.

  • The horses are loving it... it's like a massive free for all...

  • Loving it? Sure...

The ones that aren't getting brutally pulled by the bit to be forced to rear, or thrown to the side so the roll over on he neck- yeah, we could discuss if they are liking it.

But pulling them hard, making them fall... that's just cruel. Sorry to say. They could really hurt themselves, you know.

  • Real horses, real horsemen, beautiful mountains. My compliments.

  • fair enough i can see the fun side of it...but most of the poor ponies dont look like they're having a good time...i feel sory for them :(

  • i see your point there but not MY kuntucky derby winners cas im Irish... just thought i'd clear that up lol!

  • ah cute lil ponys but look at all the shit they have 2 wear :[

  • they look small and cute but they are tougher then any other horse breeds. Try getting some of your Kentucky derby winners to race on our terrian you will then know what I am talking about,

  • Why do we have to listen to a song in Chinese? There are thousands of songs in Tibetan.

  • Who told you to listen. I too feel a strong sense of being a Tibetan, but the reality of the matter is that the chinese are in control of our land and we must learn chinese so that we are better able to face and deal with them. It would be an act of stupidity to say I will just learn tibetan ignoring the practicality of knowing chinese.

  • Why did you put this up then...if not for us to listen. However, good point about learning Chinese. I agree, but we are not dealing with the Chinese here, are we? We are dealing with the world and the message we are sending is now we are close being happy with being Chinese. I am here to appreciate my culture and my culture happened to be very much alive and rich enough to afford a song or two! If we have to use Chinese to appreciation our culture, the Chinese are half-way there in their goal.

  • you are right!

  • Those little ponies are so tiny! And CUTE! They look amazingly sturdy and fast. Are these the ones that are always depicted in old asian artworks?
