  • great cover of a springsteen song

  • great version of a Springsteen song..

  • Dave and a few books are all I need on the island.

  • Dave was going at it with vigor on this one. Nice turn by Geraint, too. Golden moment for that band.

  • Värdklass!!

  • Tenia mucho tiempo q no escuchaba esta rolita q esta chingona si no nadamas chekenla.

  • The most under-rated rocker nails a song composed by the most over-rated rocker. Who'da thunk it?

  • jools holland just got hard lol

  • Lovely video,i agree totaally understaed and my fav, niceto see geraint watkins, mickey gee r.i.p,dick bland and john david (the bass man who i did my last recordings with)and excellent producer and of course John irish earle r.i.p....these guys never reached the acclaim they deserved....in my eyes gods of rock n roll music:)

  • @raunchboy hahahahahaaaa!

  • certainly underrated !

  • Brilliant. god rest ya Michael R Gee, you will be missed by more people than you would have ever realised.

    Mikey xx

  • Righteous.....Saw him at Toad's Place in New Haven, Connecticut, still the greatest rock n roll club in America, in September of 1982, He performed this, along with "Run Run Rudolph"... A great rock n roller.

  • the bass player is tim mc inerney just before he played captain darling in the final Blackadder

  • @paulyb58 Looks like a young Bill Murray to me !

  • Who's the bloke on the trumpet? He's blowning his heart out .What a guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have to say I love this song. Bruce does a great job too. I dont know if this irks you, but in this video, the first guy, on the left and closest to the stage, during the whole video, cant even clap his hands to this song, I dont know about the rest of you, but he should have just stayed at home eating Doritos. How can you sit there and not have one part of your body not react to this song????. Great job Dave. You never got the recognition you really deserved.

  • @compewterknut he is in a musical coma:D paralyzed by the music

  • For the love of god I hope the message of this songs comes true for me

  • Love it, rock it, play it again!

  • Listen to the original version by Bruce on Tracks - Edmunds voice, and band, sound thin and wimpy compared to Springsteen and the E Streeters. Really, check it out.

  • Greeat Song aznd a Greeat version of the song. to bad is a Cover of The Boss

  • One of the best songs from one of the most underrated players in rock history.

  • Bruce is a numnut Lberal moron, I'll take dave over him any day

  • @birdmanofbooze BIRDMAN IS A NUMNUT CONSERVATIVE! we don't give a flying fuck for your bullshit, political ideals!

  • @sawmillslim SAWMILLSLIM is a typical Liberal HYPOCRITE, Who cares if the Edmunds band dumps the sewage from their bus in fresh water systems? Right Sawmill? Edmunds is just another Limo Liberal elitist with koolaide drinking pinheads like sawmill as his followers....you're a pathetic joke.

  • @birdmanofbooze Lol... you've confused Dave Edmunds with Dave Matthews, which is a bit like mistaking Barry Manilow for Barry White. Thanks for playing.

  • @raunchboy That made me blow my tea out of my nose.

  • Who cares bonoholic? Its all good. Grow up!.

  • Bruce Springsteen took his song back in 2009 and nailed the best version. PERIOD

  • @bonoholic It all depends which version you heard first. I'm a big Bruce fan(since mid 70's) but I heard Dave Edmunds first, before many people knew Bruce wrote it, and although I like the Bruce version, I would say many non Bruce fans like Dave's a little better - most radical Bruce fans thinks the Boss does the best of everything and although I really like him, I can't always say that - most of the times yes, but not all of the times. :-)

  • watch the horn player, he's living every note.Does any-one know who he is?

  • watch the horn player, he's living every note.

  • Amen! this one is awesome! Edmunds sings Bruce channeling Chuck Berry!

  • i'll say!

  • Why is the guy in the front row wearing a blue box on his head ? 2:12

  • Is Edmunds playing a Fender Esquire like Bruce?

  • and then check out Chuck Berry for Bruce's inspiration in writing this

  • For the clueless dude , It's Geraint watkins on the piano, buy some glasses or try Google search sometime this era.

  • NO IT AIN"T JULES HOLLAND big neck and puffy face

  • Written by Bruce Springsteen and brought to music by Dave Edmunds. this was an instant classic when it came out around 1980 and sounds as good as ever.

  • Dave makes you want to run out and buy a gibson 335 and rock till your fingers bleed, he is the business, the essence of rock n roll, the real rockabilly boy, go dave!

  • Very true!! This is a required song for "Foot Tapping 101"!

  • Does the bass player look a little like Bill Murray?

  • @elvisfrank1234 a little?

  • Spring, 2010, and I'm STILL playing this on volume 11 in my car!!!!

  • In my opinion I like Bruce's version more. I like Bruce's voice more on this song and I think overall too. Contrary to what people say on here about Bruce not being able to sing, I think he puts so much into his singing and performances, even on some more fun songs like this one. People like Bruce, Neil Young, Bob Dylan who don't have traditionally great voices, I think have great voices because of how passionate they are in their vocals.

  • Great voice!

  • I'm a new fan whoooooooooo

  • Now momma don't you worry none

  • Super video...love dave, and i actullay knew four of the musiciains here...mickey g r.i.p,irish earl on sax rip, worked recently with John david on bass and dick on horns.Rock on:)))

  • Dave Edmunds, Bruce Springsteen, hell theyre both feckin amazin! This is the mutts

  • Definitely a classic track, great piano solo at the end. Was one of those tracks that when you heard it on the radio you got it instantly.

  • yeah, this is a Springsteen song, and one of my favorit

  • did springsteen write this??? please be kind I just didnt know thanks in advance

  • Two great musicians gone from this video...Too sad.....But lets be happy for what they did.

  • ask springsteen who "the boss" really is...he will give credit where credit is due

  • u better be thankin springsteen every night dave cause he gave this as a gift to u

  • And Both Should be thaking good ol' Chuck Berry!!

  • @ajj784

Yeah BUT this song does not define Edmund's career, not even close. Springsteen should be thankin Dave for singing it, cause Springsteen can't sing for shit.

  • @notforyou760 Bruce is relevant due to song writing content, not his singing.

  • @Rightsideup Springsteen cant sing ..poor you..he only had the biggest tours ever for the last 30 years..he only had every cd debut at #1 for the last 25 years..i feel sorry for you..go watch a skid row video you loser and leave rock and roll to us!!

  • @jeffbebe6 Boy you really told me! It must suck to be hugged up to Bruce Springsteen's nuts. Keep drinkin the Kool Aid kid, Bruce is all hype and is lucky to know the people he knows.

  • @Rightsideup - Bruce knows the people he knows because he worked his butt off to get where he is. Obviously you don't like his singing, but apparently there are a few fans who do like his voice. Chill out.

  • @MrFix3 an asshole is an asshole

  • @Argos357 successful troll is successful

  • @jeffbebe6 he just doesn't get it.

  • the wonderful late great mickey gee on guitar the cardiff live music scene was loaded with talented musicians like these

  • dave at his best.

  • You're not wrong!

  • bruce is my FAVV

  • this is a springsteen song

  • i hope he didnt like really retire

  • Check out the live album "C'mon Everybody", recorded in the States. Great stuff!

  • Dave Edmunds : Closer To the Flame (Live ) 1991

  • Does´t get any better than this, anybody know who is on the piano?

  • It´s Geraint Watkins on the piano.

  • Back in the '80s, I was able to contact Dave and tell him about a bunch of rare 78's I owned which I had to get rid of. A meeting was arranged when he played nearby. I told him he could have the records free if I could be on the guest list when he played in my area. Dave happily agreed, and true to his word, when he came around, I watched the show from backstage. A real gentleman, a genuinely nice guy, and one of the all-time great rockers (and producers).

  • Oh yes, he is a class act. I got backstage in 1982 at the Hollywood Palladium and met him there and he was very gracious (and funnier than hell). He remains one of my all time favofrites as a musician and a person.

  • rockpile kicked ass

  • They sure did... Right down the street and back again.

  • if anyone asks you to define rock and roll, just play this for them. thanks to bruce for writing the song, and to dave for doing the definitive version. thanks for posting.

  • @skontch1 Got that right, but he hates fans

  • @skontch1 There was an old HBO show with Carl Perkins called Boppin the Blues: Dave Edmunds, drummer and bassist for Stray Sats, George Harrison and others, Awesome

  • @JCfromDC2 ...thx for turning me on to boppin the blues..been you tuben some of the cuts...great stuff....never heard that dave edmunds didn't like his fans...that's ok, just want to listen to his music, not have a beer with him...

  • @skontch1 I couldn't have said it any better.

  • Yes, this is Rock 'n' Roll !!!! Fantastic!!! I like this Song...and Dave! 5*

  • Right on, Skeeb. Dave Edmunds is one of the greatest Rock N' Rollers of all time. I listen to him all the time and always will. This is from the album DE7. Get It. :)

  • Great version of this song by Dave. He`s still a very successful record producer and lives in the states these days...

  • I read that after many years of living in California he has retired to his native Wales.

  • HELL YES !

  • Dave Edmunds.............the most underrated rockn'roll artist of modern times...........bar none

  • Dave Edmunds is not underrated. He is a genuine Rock n' Roll heroe and has been regarded as such for many years.

  • @movesnreno you are sooooooooo right. Caught this act - ala Rockpile - 3 times in the 80's, and each time was better than the last. Check out "Sweet Little Lisa" from Repeat When Necessary, feat. Albert Lee. Unreal. If country always sounded this good, I would be listening to it 24-7!

  • who gives a **** only dave and the boss make a tele twang like that its the nutts

  • Great classic Dave !! You can tell that the cameraman wasn't a guitar player.

  • Dave Edmunds did Bruce Springsteen a favor by recording this. There's more passion and love for rock and roll in this three minutes and thirty four seconds of Dave Edmunds than in whatever you think the five best Springsteen songs are. The world is not smart enough to discover and cherish anything other than what it is handed and that is why Springsteen sings at the Super Bowl and we have to ask what Dave Edmunds is doing today. "It's sad, but it's true..."

  • That's my man Mickey Gee on rhythm guitar, the greatest rock 'n' roll guitarist ever to come out of Wales!

  • RIP Mickey.

  • Great performance. And the piano player .....

  • That´s Geraint watkins on the piano

  • And apparently John Cleese on bass.

Tons of fun - love this stuff.

  • John David plays the bass in this video.

  • OMG!! He DOES look like Cleese!! LOL

  • This Is A Great Song, Got To Say I Prefer Bruce Springsteens Version Though. Bruce Is The Man And Wrote Many Great Songs For Others Like This One :)

  • Fantastic tune , however when i bought the album DE 7 i recieved a free single with it..."From small things big things come" Probably the reason it never charted.

  • great stuff. love his music. what he doing now.?

  • One of the best nights of my life was seeing this band at Big Man's West in Red Bank NJ 1982,with Clarance Clemmens bartending(It was his bar) and Bruce hanging in the wings waiting to get up and play this song(witch he wrote). What a GREAT night. The Dave Edmunds Band was smoking hot!!

  • I was there that nite too!

  • Really amazing! You can never tell whether DE is miming to his track or playing live. He has this mazing uniquity of sounding the same live as he does on record. Now that's amazing production.. I wonder who produced all his records.... and King Kurt... and Stray Cats... and ahhh - he's a FANTASTIC producer.

    Mikey xxx

  • Check this one out... Clarence The Big Man Clemmons playing this version but on a saxaphone...top hole

  • i love this video

  • Great Video,"Micky Gee" on guitar,he's also from Cardiff he grew up with Dave. Old mates!!

check this out "Micky Gee - Cannonball Rag"

he used to call "the master of the Telecaster"

    it's worth watching!!!!!

  • Springsteen opened the Cardiff 2008 concert with this one! Nice touch Bruce! Stealing back your own song on Dave's home turf.Great intro to a fantastic concert and a nice way of doffing his cap to an old friend.

Oh, I wonder whatever happened to that presenter?

  • I'm looking to see who has all those videos of Dave Edmunds "live" especially "Your True Love"

  • Sad to inform everyone of the passing away of the legendary saxophonist John Earle, seen playing here. The funeral however was a great send off for the very talented and gentle fellow. R.I.P

  • you people do know that this is a Bruce Springsteen song, right?

  • you are a very knowledgable person

  • I'd REALLY like to see Dave play the solo, not Mickey Gee playing the rhythm. F***** studio directors. And nikedinburgh, you probably were joking, but John David plays the bass. He's been on and off with Dave since mid-60's.

  • Why's John Cleese pretending to play the guitar behind him (to stage right)?

  • ha ha ha ha, john cleese! hilarious...

    A Bass Called Wanda

  • They should make a film!

I've met Dave Edmunds (and Nick lowe) when they played Tiffs [now a block of flats] in the 80s. I took photographs because I had to stay to help tidy up afterwards (for Regular Music).

Another concert I didn't see would've been Elvis Costello: I accidentally knocked him out, when ONLY he said I couldn't take photographs!

  • My husband is such a huge Dave Edmunds fan, and I can understand why! He reminds me of John Fogerty, another of my hubs favourites!

  • THAT'S how you perform a rock and roll song!

Dave Edmunds will always be the best. Criminally underrated, but still the best!

  • This is a great song. I bought the album :

" DE7 ", and I was always amazed that Dave didn't become more famous.

    What gives?

  • annahaferman..Great comment!!!Sure does look like him.

  • Man you gotta love that key change near the end. Rock n roll at its finest.

  • I thought this was great when I was 15!!

  • Isn't that John Cleese on bass?

  • ..and written by Bruce Springsteen.

  • Okay, I stand corrected. It was the early 1980's.

  • 70's pub rock....just one more reason to wish I was British.
