Part of me hates the fuel guzzling monster trucks,.,, and another part of me realizes that there are large parts of this country than are under 6 feet of snow for almost half the year, with 100 miles between small towns. We couldn't get by on mini's if we tried. 4 wheel drive is a must.
@onlywhenprovoked Oh I absolutely concur. But in Los Angeles 80 per cent of these jewels are driven by frail looking 45 year old women who can barely see over the dashboard. They use them to go to the nail salon, to pilates class and to take their honor students to school and back.
Not to go boldly where none have gone before. Over half of these trucks have front wheel drive only.
And I promise you that no-one is using the Nissan Murano to go rescue stranded cattle.
@onlywhenprovoked A few years ago we went up to Bog Bear in the depths of winter. My wife's friend insisted on driving as she has "a four wheel drive". She had one of those huge Volvo SUVs. We get up to the cabin and the thing gets stuck in the snow - turns out it's not 4WD, it's front wheel drive. She just assumed when she bought it that it was 4WD. My Audi s4, on the other hand, handles the snow quite well, although it hasn't been in the really deep stuff.
Outside of looking flash and obnoxious I don't see the point in these behemoths (escalade et al). The vast majority of people that buy them don't need something the size of a small town.

@hugochiva93 Yeah I'd redesign it with a fucking sledgehammer and a car crusher.
