  • Good Knockdown by the engine company. Fast water on the fire, good inter ion firefighting what the FDNY does best.

  • FDNY dont play they knock it down quick.

  • The "Brothers" doing what they do best "puttin' the wet stuff on the red stuff" while searching the fire floor and the floor/area above the fire. Nobody does it better. They wrote the book and then proof read it as well!!!

  • shit

  • as

  • @photolitherland

    Luke 16:22-25

I guess you'll have to wait and see.

  • @photolitherland

But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

    Matthew 10:33

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

    John 12:48

  • yeah ps3 :D

  • what the hell flew threw through the window and did water put the fire out????

  • @FDNYMong48 That was water shooting out the window. Kind of hard to aim in smoke when you begin to put out your light source. Haha. There is no way for that fire to put itself out with the windows open.

  • The smoke and gases were venting through the open wndows.

No need to put firefighters on the roof.

    Think safety first.

  • 1:44 satan started shitting his pants when he saw the man in black and a leather helmet.

  • ebbeybody move man, you might get wet fuddamuckers

  • I hope that the damage to your house was not to big.

How could you look so calm and continue filming?

  • kto nibud umerr ??

  • We "Vent for life and safety"

  • learn to spell

  • Ok, if you speak italian like me when I speak english.

    See you later.

  • But, did they use PPV?

  • That's awesome!

    That baby is cookin.

  • I'm confused.

What exthinguisher used these fireman for a so fast extinction?

    I'm sorry but I am not American/English

  • It was a hoseline off the engine with just water at probably about 150 gallons a min. you can see the stream of water come out the window at the 1:49 mark

  • Thank you.

Is it like a CAFS o is it a CAFS?

  • I get all choked up everytime I watch a fire fighter in action.

Five stars aint enough to rate their heroic abilities.

  • yeah seriously if a fire starts DO NOT break a window..... that will cause flashover and theres a great chance you will DIE from it...

  • well actually if the window is not broken, then the fire will consume all of the oxygen inside and WILL cause a backdraft. if you vent that means the fire gets oxygen and you wont run the risk of an explosive decompression.

  • dude, really? by ur name i assume ur a smoke jumper? leave ventilation to the truckies... rarely do we have backdrafts, and if you look around at the people and what they are wearing, I don't think its winter...thus, not every window is going to be closed and "AIR TIGHT" for a backdraft... thanks bud

  • oh i understand, but i am just going from a scientific point of view. of course you are not going to have perfect conditions. i am just saying ventilation is the safe way of going about it.. and i was just letting spurs know that it is better to create ventilation then to not do it.

  • @firnatineaboveall you forgot to mention the fire is already vented

Hammer

  • description: i told her to take my passport (fleeing the country huh?) and the PS3 (wow.... just wow.)

  • hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • How the hell does God get introduced into a fire video. Wow. Believing in God and Christ as the savior (sp) is a choice. Simple. It goes on faith. No hard evidence, except what happened to me when I was a kid, but I can't prove that to anyone just me. It is not a bad thing to believe in God.

    Mike

Please don't tell me to F off. Oh a Christian with a sense oif humor.

    Mike

  • That's a lot of smoock

  • hahaah

  • dont be a prick, firefighters have alot of respect for the neighborhoods they work in so don't talk shit to a person just because they aren't from america. welcome to new york.

  • It's still a lot of smoock.

  • the importants thing is the PS 3 nice iw ould save my PS3 first, too.

  • "told her to take the passport... AND THE PS3" remarkable.

  • what if was a psp that had all of him and his familys pictures on it. What if he just worked really had and just got it and she just so happened to be standing buy it. And as far as the passport goes. I recently traveled over seas and its a real pain in the but to get on, not to mention getting one in another country. Reguarless of what they grabbed i had a call last night of a funace fire with a woman trapped in side. They were lucky to get out and be alive. So yes thank god or alah or who ever

  • ok im ok with ur belief, but can i have some proof?...sorry..

  • The guy that said "why they don't start putting water" needs to go get a fucking EDUCATION. We don't do things 3rd-world here, asshole. We don't get buckets of water out of the river & carry them to the fire.....I bet your dumb ass didn't have renter's insurance either, yet you'll blame everyone else. What's up with the ghetto-ass bass in the background? Nice 'hood.....losers.

  • Oh, and "appartment"? "oppen"? smoock"? LEARN TO SPELL.

  • What was going on with Tower 44? Were they trying to reposition to set-up or just backing up to stay out of the way?

  • Curious, why was the fire extinguished randomly? A Fit 5? Sorry, I may have missed it.

  • its a 3 story walkup md with no standpipe, its a tough stretch and there were men going up the ladder. they had to wait until the roof team was in position for venting, even though the fire was self-ventilated.

  • why they don't start putting fucking water. lol. stuff doesn't just happen in 10 seconds like the movies.

  • Infact the movies suck compared to real life and documentaries. Good firefighter movie is The Towering Inferno, none of this Backdraft or Ladder 49.

  • gran labor de bomberos felicitaciones

  • FDNY good men. I love how the whole block comes out to watch someones house and stuff burn.

  • My friend is on Rescue 1 in Manhattan and his brother is on an engine in Harlem. The guy that was doing OV on the fire escape got ripped a new ass hole after that fire according to them.

  • Why?

  • probably for taking the window before the line was in place.

  • Could someone tell me what the protocalls in FDNY or any US fire dept. On wearing airpacks, i notice many members are not as they are entering, venting, or working around a working fire. (not just in this vid but in others as well)

  • All members wear their mask when going to work in an any IDLH such as this one. If you watch the video again you'll see that everyone has their mask on except for mabye the OV (hard to see) on the front F.E. He might not have his on at the time because sometimes, you can't fit going up the F.E. with the mask on. Once in position for VES it can be redonned if entering. You have to remember Fire escapes were not designed for people going UP them, with 100 lbs of gear & tools. ...It ain't easy!

  • It's called conserving your air.

  • pyro ive been on the FDNY for 8 years, our policy is that we mask up when we are about to enter the IDHL area- Imminent Danger Life Hazard- IDLH until that time we conserve our air so that when we do enter the area we have as much operating time as possible once we begin we finish without having to switch out crews with more air and possibly lose our progress on the attack of the fire as well as to complete the search for victims without a pause-TIME is the victims worst enemy

  • immediate danger to life and health.

  • Great knockdown and roof setup, one of the best I've seen in a video. Truckies and engine guys did exactly what they were supposed to at the right times. These guys know their stuff, it's awesome to watch.

Oh, and stop with the "there is no God" comments. Come on, please. This is a video about the FDNY. Comment on the great job these guys did, and keep that atheist garbage to yourself.

  • LOL GTTA GET THAT PS3 OUT!!

  • NICE knock down. Got behind the fire and pushed it right out the windows. Truckies didn't even get the roof opened up yet. Good job

  • I'm also a UK Firefighter and have always been interested in joining the FDNY, mainly because the FDNY actually seem to fight fires, take risks, and do what firefighters should do, rather than stand back and watch it burn when our senior officers get scared that someone might hurt themselves! Does anyone know if there are any ex-uk fitefighters in the FDNY?

  • I wouldn't know that but...

ex-UK Firefighter with much experience on how to fight fires I wouldn't doubt there is some leeway in the system.

  • Just a question...as I see there are a lot of guys on here in the FDNY. Im a UK Firefighter interested in working in the FDNY in some capacity. Can anybody help me? Thanks.

  • My friend i just wanted to be sure abour what you wrote " god does not exist " !!!! are you joking or playing ? i really hop it's one of then other wise ask for help my friend just think or look things that around you.

thank you have a nice day

  • @Tourbilonn If you thought for three seconds about some of the stuff you believe about religion, you'd figure out that "he's" not real. Like Adam and Eve, you expect me to believe that two white people created the whole world's population? How are there so many skin colors if two WHITE people created us?

  • Whatever you believe, these guys are awesome!

    So is the whole FDNY!

  • this was a good attack by the fdny as being a retired battallion chief i know that this was a good setup by the chief on scene.

  • what would i do ps3 or 360 or my phone or laptop i couldt get them all without dropping one

  • That baby is cooking!!

God bless FDNY Firefighters and firefighters everywhere!

  • I have seen a lot of these videos and I still do not understand why you would not get a line going, not only to protect the exposures but to start an initial knock down of the fire while waiting for crews to get in there and do the job. With no problems at all you would be able to lob water in the windows from the street.

  • see if i can explain. First, we have a standard procedure. !. Evaluate. it helps us understand what resource to used. 2. posible victims. don't wanna drown the bastards, 3. open windows so we can clear smoke, send some men in and then initiate all the fun water and hose thing you like. while we did the fisrt 3, men were getting hoses ready. they are not garden hoses pal. Capt. Santiago FDNY

  • Hey Capt Santiago, no need to get sarcastic, thought it was a valid comment and opinion. Are we not all allowed to have one?? We have a standard procedure too, Size Up and RECEF, Rescue, Exposures, Contain, Extinguish and Fire Duty.

Despite the differences in how everyone around the world does things we all still get the job done at the end of the day, and all hopefully go home in the same shape that we went to work in.

Be safe out there, see you over there at the Games in 2011

  • There are members already in the building. I guess you never where inside a fire building when exposed to an exterior stream is blasting all the heat and fire at you. Never mind the occupants of the rear apartments ( guessing from the front fire-escapes) To me they did a great job and limiting it to the fire apartment alone.

  • if this was my dept, we would be running like chickens with no heads, these guys just walking around like yeah, we see this the time no biggie

  • are you that stupid as you sound !!!!!

  • no one hurt on a job like this, are as tupid you know that to be a compliment to the professioalism of your FD

  • Wow.

  • The two chicks are cute at the beginning.

  • Comment removed

  • just kiidding.

  • At the 56 second mark in the video is when the window below the ladder is broken. At 1:44 is when water is being applied to the fire. That is 48 seconds from window being broken to water application. Seems to me that they had near perfect coordination between interior and exterior crews. Window broken relieves heat and smoke for better visibility and working conditions while entering the fire compartment. Once water is being applied allows for additional venting of hot steam and gases.

  • Two things...You absolutely can have a flashover with a vented building, watch any of the many videos of flashovers and companies that reinvent them to study it. THey are all open..

Second Opening the window of an unexposed apartment that is right below the aerial?! Not smart, lets not draw the fire to uninvolved areas and pinch of the egress of our truckies...Love you FDNY but rough move, glad it worked out

  • How do you know there wasn't a rear fire escape for a secondary means of egress? Besides hoselines were operating BEFORE the vent occured.

  • I hear ya, Im not trying to talk poorly about it. I just think that vert vent and interior attack was the priority. That window made no difference. And just considering if things went south, that would have affected their egress. Choose vert or horiz ventilation and stick with it. That is how Charleston killed their boys, people being cowboys breaking windows. That only fuels it. Roof cuts when you can! Keep safe! Great knockdown boys

  • This fire was on the cover of Firehouse magazine January 2008. Rock on, FDNY.

  • ahahahahaha wasn opfer...

"I took my babylove"... alleine sie sollte erstmal die PS3 mitnehmen... aber angst um dein leben oder deine scheiß bude hatteste nich wa?

  • "Passport and PS3"..... the only valuable things in the world...lol But glad you got out alive!

  • What was the cause?

No smoke alarms to cath the fire early?

  • Comment removed

  • was that small explosion a backdraft?

  • That wasn't an explosion or backdraft but, just the Brothers putting the wet stuff on the red stuff.

  • no not really--just had to wipe off a couple of things

  • Did your Apartment suffer any Damage??

  • Nope, after the flames were put out the appartment was found to be completely unaffected...

  • lol ps3 is very important in this situation ^^

  • That's what I was thinking!

  • that was to eckyphats

  • A nozzle mans wet dream.

  • wait u called to say your PS3 is still in there!!!!!!!!!!!!! DUDE!

  • that looks cool

  • u waited to take the ps3 and the pass port are u stupid or somethin its not gonna be funny WHEN A FIREFIGHTER COULD LOSE HIS OR HER LIFE pullin ur dead bodies out of that bulding

  • Comment removed

  • How do you have a backdraft or flashover when the fire is self vented?

I love seeing the comments on all these videos from people that have no clue what they are talking about

  • same here

  • Theoretically it IS possible, anyways, for that to happen you would need LOTS of heat and very very little venting... which clearly isn't the case here... it is WAY self vented... haha

Anyways I don't think I will see that happen even once in my life...

  • time to find a busier dept then lol..

not really a pipemans dreams, smokes all cleared, probably no effort was needed to actually find the seat of the fire

  • lol i like at 0:40 the dudes like why dont they start putting fucking water!!!. lol rofl

  • its a 17th battalion fire..the 19th was the 10-75 chief...i also know that 46/27 will make way for a quiznos soon when the BARB system is complete..

  • An A+ in truck work. Anyone know what truck that is? what Battalion? and FDNYBatt22 is that you Chief Calderone?? RIP brothers box 8087 Never forget.

    Plainfield NJ T/L 1

  • could be 14 battalion or 26 battalion. definitely division 6. without an address i cant help you.

  • actually i see truck 44 and 33, either 17 or 19 battalion.

  • the best is the civs comments lol

  • good call on saving the PS3 dude.

  • that's what's up man . you know how we play :)

  • i'd have left it and taken the beer from the fridge, personally. Nothing like a drink with a show!

  • great knock down would be a good one to go in on

  • FirexCadetx Batt chief huh 3 lucky saturdays with that kind of luck you should go to vegas

  • ya that was a pretty good knock down.and ur right when BTW Rescue 2 goes to the Bronx if Rescue 3 is on a prior assignment..they're next closest since Rescue 1 comes from near Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan.

  • yeah i know, we can see it in the Backdraft movie!! (the best firefighters movie of the history!!). it's caused by a lack of oxygen, and it really hurts..it's a real explosion..and nobody wanna be overhere when it arrives..:S

  • backdraft best movie ever third watch is good too

  • Backdraft is plain nonsense! There's no other work of fiction that promoted more serious misconceptions of fire fighting. Fire as a sentient entity, firefighters berserking around smashing burning furniture, rookies being sent into burning warehouses on their own, firemen as tough but mindless guys always living on the edge, prone to crack and turn into arsonists, fire investigators not relying on science but doing some kind of a Dick Tracy thing... I wish they never made this awful movie!

  • Defence????? Its a one maye two room fire. With no cockloft extension yet. 1 3/4" and you got it.

  • how many lengths from the cameraman, ugyFD?

  • backdraft...it's not when there's a perfect "mix" of gas and oxygen then it explose ???

  • backdraft is post flashover, when all oxygen in the room is burned up, but its still superheated, when a window breaks or a door opens the rush of oxygen(fuel) blows from all the heat. there couldnt have been a backdraft at this job because its blowing out the windows.

  • FireCadet. You are still VERY new, so Ill be nice. You cant have a backdraft/flashover if the fire is self-venting. You, sir need to pay more attention. DONT BE A WHACKER...

  • hi everyone it's me Tourbillon or david lol

yes this video was the cover fire from firehouse magazie like branchvilleff7 said. and the photographer of that picture is in that video up to you to find it good luck guys

  • that was a great knock down. alot of depts would have probably went on the defence. love it, great vid

  • now THAT was a quick knockdown...once they got the hose up there...BTW Rescue 2 goes to the Bronx if Rescue 3 is on a prior assignment..they're next closest since Rescue 1 comes from near Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan.

  • just realized this was the cover fire from firehouse magazine a few months back, the photographer of that pic must have been right next to this guy. the guys going up the truck are rescue 2

  • What's Rescue 2 doing in the Bronx?

  • Good knock. Interior attack was definitly the way to go on this one. Just cause it's self vented doesn't mean automatically hit from the outside. Good Job FDNY

  • WOW good job.....

  • this is battalion 32 here.firexcadetx is now on battalion 54.he has been moved.he has got it all wrong.our guys did the right thing an exterior attack would have been horable to do.i think he was plasterd when he said that.

  • Yes i agree, interior attack makes much sense in this. you had a guy on the fire escape working on ventilation and an interior attack going on inside at the same time. Good Job! God Bless the NY FD and all Fire Agencies!

  • gmook3232--a backdraft/flashover could have happend because there could have been a fire not showing in the hallway or other apt.you need to pay more attention.!.!o ya and thats y they gave me the position of batt. chief

  • o and to prove im the battalion chief im on battalion 32.

  • o u want to no y im a cadet??i wanted to name myself that u fag.now listen im right ur wrong. im a battalion chief so i no wat goes down.

  • shit is crazy

  • Was this an "all hands" or did it go to a 2nd

  • FIRExCADETx -- An exterior attack would push the fire through the rest of the apt or to the public hallway if the fire apt door was left open.... my comment below this is for you too

  • THta was smart taking the PS3 i would have taken mine to

  • this video has a picture in that is on the cover of firehouse the magazine

  • Fuggin tits! Cut the hole and put the fire out, solid.

  • its not good for them to do an itierior attack because if they put it out still the fire fighter inside could have expierinced a flashover or a backdraft sending the fire fighter to the hospital.now the building also could have collapsed on him too but luckly it didnt and they got out alright.

  • If you're going to make comments know what you're talking about first..maybe thats why you're a CADET. There would not be a backdraft in this situation if you knew how they occur (fire was already venting and it's not in the decaying stage) Looking at it, it looked like that room already flashed with the heavy fire load out of exposure 1 and 2, so putting water on it would fix that problem, the danger with possible flashover is being inside without a line prior to it flashing.

  • i agree with you and second the building is well vented and that flashover is probouly rare in that fire

  • Great footage, tourbilonn. You do the FDNY justice when you get a textbook fire like that on tape. Hope your apartment wasn't water logged.

  • Do you think it was a good idea for the ouside hook guy to ventilate that window while the firmen were right above it at the time, on the main ladder. Fire could have blew out the window causing injuries. What do you think?

  • I agree, I tried to say that in a message but apparently misunderstood. We dont throw ground ladders above windows either. Just a precaution. Upwind, just off to the side.

  • listen smart ass mother fucker. i think i have already told you to keep your mouth close right ?

you think you are smarter then me? don't even try to comper yourself to me.

i may miss spell some words but i do speak your fucking language wich is just ENG ass hole.i feel so sorry for you ignorent!! but you see me i speak 6 languages something that you, your mom and you next generation will never be able to attend.if you still want to prove to every one that you smart please repay lol :)

  • perfect attack. If you dont know about fightin fire dont open your mouth. enough has been said why we fight fire from the inside. Your a firemen or not and you are just a camara man. way to get in there guys.

  • hey guys, how did it happen that the fire has gone down in a second??? was there attack crew inside? I didn't saw any water getting from the ladder or the firefighteron stairs

  • just note, once the roof got vented, water was flowing. the engine crew was in there, by the book, opened the line just when the roof team opened it up.

  • Nice stop.

  • Tourbilonn, I'd like to thank you for posting this video. It's videos like this one that gives the public a better idea as to how hard this job actually is. I am a Bronx fireman and the brothers did a great job here(as usual). A great picture of this "job" made the front cover of "WNYF". Other firefighters made it clear why the truck has to go in first and why fires must be fought aggresively from the inside, so I'll leave that alone. Take Care and Comb your hair.(Dawg House).

  • right with ya brother... harlem hilton here. once again aggressiveness wins the battle. Thats why we are the best in the world

  • Amen brother

  • Who ever taped this is a moron. You are not a firefighter, and have no idea what we are doing. Shut your mouth and keep the camera pointed at the fire. We dont want to see you and your girlfriends faces.

  • first i must say fuck you ?

    No1 i never said i was a firefight.

    NO2 i didn't ask you to watch it .

No3 my girl is 100 time better then you Bitch.

NO4 i tape this video better then anyone .

NO5 you just stupid and have nothing to said so please keep you month chut, cuz every time you open it you prove us that you are more stupid then we all though.

    bitch.

  • You need to learn to spell and type correctly. Bitch

  • my last message concern you too ignorent bitch

  • I see that you still cannot type properly. You to ignorent bitch. Yeah that makes sense. Looser.

  • cmon man stop messing with tourbilonn people dont mispell on purpose unless theyre doing it for faster typing or they didnt notice that they mispelled. stop making a big deal about typos.

  • Nice aggressive attack by the FDNY.. Good job boys.

  • newflyer..you NEVER put water on a fire from the outside when there is anyone else still inside, victims or firefighters alike. i am a firefighter, and i spent 3 weeks in the burn center because of a handline being put into a window from the exterior while i was doing a search. boil a pot of water with the cover on it, hold your face over the cover and take the cover off and see what happens. same effect of putting a hose into a window. we fight from inside out, so the steam has a place to go.

  • "i just call my girlfreind and told her to take the passport and the PS3 and we left the room"

    ----

You had to save the PS3.. ROFL!!!

  • When firefighters are explaining tactics to u, shut up and listen. Their tactics weren't created last night. thats the problem with half of America: they think they know everything!!

  • The fire on the outside is just hot gas's burning. The fire on the inside will not be put out by spraying water on the flames in the windows. The average person doesn't have a clue about the science of putting fires out. To much TV and movies. That is not real, this is.

  • newflyer500... You would steam your brothers!!!!

  • hi every one !!!

i wanted to said Thank You to all of you how take few of your time to write a coment.

PS: like my friend said you don't fight a fire from the out side but from the inside out.

    thank you all.

  • you dont fight a fire from the outside you fight it from the inside out to avoid pushing the fire through the rest of building...putting water on the fire through the windows would have pushed the fire towards the back of the building...as for the tower ladder just woul have pushed it back it's better to do it the way they did...did you see how fast it went out!
