Clear, sparkling night with the strangest looking cloud in the sky. I sat next to my dad, he went through the radio channels. I paid no attention, but as soon as this song came on, I slapped his hand away.
And I listened to this song, sung every word to it, disgusted my father, then continued to sing it after it was over.

My favorite Zappa tune. Takes me back to those days...owning nothing, partying everywhere, crashing anywhere, waking up with ...well, could be anyone.
@bufumofo223 not dunbar but ralph humphrey, and yes it's sick (oh and ralph played the drums on the song yellow snow too, though the rest of apostrophe was dunbar). IMO Humphrey was the best drummer to work with zappa, and one of the best ever.
@beej001 but he had a problem with his syneses when he was young so the doctor put radium pellets up his nose - i think it warped his frontal lobe - he is beyond anything!!
Frank at his weirdest but it has still kept me listening since my best friend turned me on to it in the 60's (damn sounds like I'm old) still enjoy it on occasion, in the right mood.
It's just great music. Zappa was vehemently against drug use and didn't partake himself nor allow members of his band to partake in drug use. He actually kicked a few members out due to drugs.
@NanookRubbedIt Thanks, at first I was wary of music that contained a lot of vocals but not much in the way of a message but Frank Zappa has educated me otherwise.
@8something2original8 but his music has an overwhelming message. camarillo brillo is about sexual exploration and youth and has huge overtones of nostalgia.
Zappa was an actual conservative, he believed that people should have the right and the responsibility to choose what they put into their bodies. He also thought that drug use was a sign of extreme weakness and was personally against them and apparently never touched them or tollerated them as far as his personal life goes.
@8something2original8 This whole album :Overnite Sensation, is about sex. Despite his music being so strange, Frank Zappa never did any drugs besides smoking marijuana a few times but he didn't like it. He smoked tons of ciggs though.
I heard this song played live at the Paramount Theater in Portland, Oregon on March 16, 1974, and I have to tell you it was THE BEST song I ever heard Frank Zappa play live (I saw him live 3 times). I'm looking forward to seeing Dweezil Zappa play his dad's tunes when that tour ("Zappa Plays Zappa") comes to Eugene this September.
@hansjaeger1 I know right, I'm embarrassed that I've listened to classic rock so much for so long yet never heard of Frank Zappa. What the fuck is wrong with me? :S
my dad was the one that introduced my brother and I to frank zappa when we were younger. He passed away a few years ago while I was in high school, but listening to these songs always remind me of him.
Incredible... as always. It never gets old. This won't be news to anybody listening to any Zappa, anywhere but, I must say it anyway ~The Drumming is F*#*ing Ridiculous. This is a studio rec. and great, but, the musicianship and work it takes to play these songs... correctly, live,be tight and nail it ? It's genius. As a musician (not a drummer), I'm in awe of Frank Zappa, The Mothers of Invention... and all the assorted musicians that contributed to the work. They all were/are amazing.
@TrempBoy2 I agree man but SO many great lines in this tune it is GEIUS... I love the chorus and the ending... where he "asks"... "is that a real Poncho or a Sears Poncho?" LMAO. Cheers and Peace :)
A buddy of mine used to have his voicemail of him drunkenly saying "Is that a real poncho? I mean, is that a Mexican poncho? Or a Sears poncho?" I thought he was just drunk. Three years later I discover this song. Now that reference just became so much more awesome!
@AllKindsaGirls LOL!! there is no Acoustic track in this tune-i guess you mean the basic chord structure. Yet it is indeed a Great Tune!!! ,just tryin to play this on an acoustic tickles me a bit!!! Hey, if ya groove on it, thats all that matters-No Foolin!
@joeknee4767 no actually. actually it sounds really good. the chorus is a little funky sounding. but the rest of it sounds spot on. i may post a video sometime.
@joeknee4767 So you can only play songs on the acoustic guitar if the original has an acoustic part? Ooookkkkkkkk thanks for letting us know the rules. "LOL!!"
@AllKindsaGirls sir there is no acoustic guitar track in the the mix of this song.in fact the only guitar on the track is a clean strat doing fill riffs and some single note melody parts,no offense ,and i guess you mean the basic chord structure.Anyway if ya like Frank you are a good being!!!! Take care!!
My mom thought I was insane and on serious drugs (which wasn't the case of course) when I played this on my crappy stereo back then. Had to scour record stores to find his music back then... Priceless. Still treasure my vinyl of it still.
I had a great night of beers and amazing sex from a girl I took to my apartment after hanging out with friends................she left in the morning and I slept in for a few hours before I took a cab to pick up my car. When I got in my car(before satt. radio) I heard this song on the radio and was floored by the lyrics and music;infact, I knew it was Zappa and asked a friend at work about the song and he said" Oh Camirillo Brillo".........6 yrs ago and Im still totally into FZ and ZPZ.
