  • More modern drums, please. :-). True nostalgia for folks as I and fir DD to gesture as a robot; all part of the song.

  • Never dug the song or the direction Styx turned when the album came out, but I give Dennis ALLOT of credit for battling CFS & still performing live. NOT an easy feat!

  • the modern drums ruin it....snare drum as no reverb. drums sound like some jerks basement

  • styx is nothing with out dennis but on the other hand dennis is nothing with out styx

  • sorry dennis but that band sucks

  • Poop

  • This might be the best version of this song ever!!!

  • LIP SYNCING!!!!! SOUNDS EXACTALLY LIKE THE REALL THING ON CD LIARS

  • @MrMAnPAndA666 Uh, no?

One element of progressive rock music supposedly put forth by Ruch back in the 70s was that the concert should replicate the concept and vibe of the LP version.

  • I loved it I love that song

  • "Dōmo arigatō, Mr. Roboto"!

  • Thanks for the memories

  • UP THANK YOU!DOMOARIGATOU!(どうもありがとう!)

  • He reminds me of Mr. Peterman from Seinfeld.

  • The BEST Peformace I've ever seen LIVE!!! :D GJ! God bless you! :)

  • I went to their concert last night. It was...well no words can describe it, but I was hoping very much that they would play this one. Guess they didn't feel it would be right without Dennis singing it : |

  • Why is the crowd so damn quiet, Id be jumping my ASS off

  • Listen to all the nerds shout "KILROY...KILROY"...Hahaha Probably looks like a damn Star Trek convention in the audience too.

Ladies & gentlemen....the downfall of Styx...gayest song ever written!!

  • I grew up on this song in the 80s, It is NOT the gayest song ever when you have Lady ga ga and Justin Bieber getting ait play

  • @twiztidlestat

It's such a gay, hokey song...definitely the biggest TURD that Dennis ever wrote. It sounds so good live too, eh? Haha

  • Do they even play this song anymore?

  • i went to the Styx, REO Speedwagon, and .38 Special concert this past summer and Tommy Shaw was saying how only Dennis Deyoung liked the song, so once he left, they didn't play the song anymore

  • @lhaaker I better Tommy loved all the money this song made for the band.

  • Dennis Deyong was basically kicked out due to a creative fued with the rest of the band. Tommy Shaw never got along with him and you basically had the Dennis Deyoung stuff and the more prog rock stuff Tommy Shaw wrote. When Deyong left the group he took the stuff he wrote and Styx continued basically with Tommy Shaw's material. Dennis Deyoung continues to do Mr. Roboto as a solo act but Styx no longer performs any of his material which the rest of the band never liked anyway.

  • @captslappy you are wrong. tThe current Styx lineup still performs Lady, Come Sail away, Grand illusion and several Dennis songs. An they fail miserably at capturing the magic of Dennis. Styx without Dennis = fraud

  • @mrjimmy123456 Oh really? Good to know. It was my understanding that they only did Tommy Shaw's material now. I agree that Dennis was Styx. Thanks for the info.

  • This will be always a cool song

  • His voice is in amazing shape. A bit deeper, but compare bands like Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, or Kansas 20-30 years later. DeYoung is even older than them, and can kick their ...

Hell, this is live. Most bands can't throw out something this close to their grand studio version, let alone 25+ years later.

  • @TheCocaColaCan

Actually, replicating the grand studio version 25 years later is much easier because the technology solves a lot of synching and countless other problems.

Not to take away from the achievement here... Dennis has managed to faithfully reproduce his concept in all its pompous overblown majesty. It helps that he had a band that is paid to play it, unlike his former band mates who found it to histrionic even by Styx standards, and hated it.

  • I was in the front row for one of his peformances.

  • that's not the original

  • I wish they'd come to South Carolina.

  • Styx is coming to Quebec (Canada) July 15th!!

Can't wait to see them live!

  • it wood be funny if robots came to the show

  • man i was at this i live in worth right next to chicago ridge lol

  • I saw Styx in 2007.

  • Great song - great performer. Dennis DeYoung = Styx. He was one of the founders and it was his songs that put them on the radio. The guys who are using the name Styx now owe their careers to Dennis!

  • he says tankoo!

    LOL

  • ok what does Genesis have to do in this?

  • Dennis DeYoung is STYX!

  • i was there it was a badass show

  • Wative, glad that you didn't missed this event as well :) Thanks for your message. May be I see you on this years fest :) Take care, Volkan

  • i hear this song since i was 4, i`m 30 now and stills shaking my skin

  • I love Dennis and Styx, and I went to the Mr. Roboto Tour in 1983 in Florida, But you can tell this is not Styx, and what kind of venue is he playing at here where the crowd talks through his performance...

I love seeing him perform this again, but it's rushed and sloppy..

    Sorry Gang!

  • Hi Highlander38, I wish I had better recording means but I had to use my photography camera. Considering his age, Dennis performed way beyond my expectations. It wasn't a million dollar performance like Fleetwood Mac's last night, but to me, everything was great for 10 bucks which was not because he was cheap, but I think because he was doing a favor to the folks form his hometown. Seeing his high school sweetheart wife Suzanna De Young on stage was also great treat :) Take care, Volkan

  • Domo arigato gozaimasu Roboto San.

  • het that is on my birthday!

  • So we wish you happy birthday on July 25 :) Take care, Volkan

  • The original 1983 Mr. Roboto was nearly the same as Queen in the early 80's.

  • i never did quite get the ending of this song

  • Go Dennis! I'd rather see him than the current lineup of "Styx".

  • yeah me too, this would free up gowan to do his solo stuff which i want to see too....

  • You go Dennis! :)

    You too Captain :)

  • Thank you much Enemyoffreeworld :) Cheers from Chicago, Volkan

  • voice

  • boo lol i do not like his v

  • Ummm... in general? Or on this song? Because he's the original singer. Sounds pretty decent, even 25 years later after the song's inception. To each his own though!

  • I was about to say, amazing that he still has most of the chops. Led Zeppelin sure didn't sound this good after all this time.

  • Nice one i love it

  • What's the hangup?..why doesn't he get back together with STYX?

  • i forget which band member, but shortly after mr.roboto was released one of the band members quit because he thought the band was to theatrical and he still thinks that.

  • They don't want him back, they feel he's out for himself and too domineering.

  • this is a good song

  • Thank you PvTmasonO for your comment. I like this song since I was a teenager :) Take care, Volkan

  • um ok yor wellcome

  • i was there.

    great show =]

  • Hello pinkpigluver, I am glad you didn't miss this history making music event in Chicagoland. Thanks to my friend Rob, I feel very lucky that I didn't missed it either :) Cheers, Volkan
