To anyone who doubts Tori's live singing/playing abilities...you've obviously never been touched by seeing her perform live. She's more than a musician, she's an artist...and artists don't need fancy studio equipment to make themselves sound/look better.

If this was in reply to me stating she has been made to mime to the backing track on many 90s tv shows in the UK, i have been to over 30 Tori concerts the last 15 years and have been very touched by seeing her live! She can blow people out of the water with her playing :) However, due to tv shows and their rules at sometimes, she had to mime along, it's not a big deal - thousands of fantastic artists have had to do the same.

A lot of television shows also used to make the artists record a performance right before the show and mime along with it during... so maybe this could be the case here? If it's not live it had to be re recorded cause it's obviously different - and she's a damn good faker lol.

PS: I love Tori and dunno if this is fake or not, just stating facts.

The vocal is live, but that piano is identical to the album version, note for not bit by bit. That's all i meant, and i didn't mean it to turn into huge debate!!!! It was just that some seem unable to believe she EVER mimed to anything on any tv show ever! As if it's some slight or crime to her values! i really should dig out my footage of her on the ITV show "the beat", she mimes along to 3 songs, vocals and music competely mimed! I bet some here would still not believe it!!!!

I don't think there is no need to debate Tori's live playing abilities here... or get too worked up that this particular performance is not 100% authentic to viewers. I'm sure Tori didn't want to mime on any TV show that asked her too... she probably doesn't want to censor her lyrics either. A true Tori fan would know that this woman can play a fantastic and jaw-dropping show! Tori plays 2 pianos at the same time during her live shows for goodness sakes!!!

Exactly, every live performance she gives has unique individualistic accents., and as everyone should note she has expressed the true joy in her musicianship is playing live; she has been playing live most of her life and frequently speaks of the energy that manifests during a show.

Not trying to be a jerk, just wanted to pose the idea that she could, in fact, be miked. DPA makes a very small mic (4061) on a wire that can be affixed to the piano lid, the soundboard, or the insides of the body. Can't see it at all. The background strings DO sound canned, but the piano sounds live to me...

I'm not saying she's pretending to hit the bloody keys.. the way the bbc mikes things and airs them on this show is they let the audio feed go live but play the rest of the track out the tv airwaves. So she is singing live yes, and yes she is hitting the keys BUt it is not what we hear, ok?!

TOTP crucify, cornflake girl, pretty good year, cals, spark.

THIS MORNING cornfalke girl, cals, glory of the 80s.

and on THE BEAT she mimed to everything including vocals - i think this is the only time that has happened.

She rarely does it now (though did on the graham norton show last week, miming the piano) so newer fans tend to think she would never do it. No worries!

she's actually playing the piano. there's just a backing track of the other instruments from the album. tori amos would NEVER fake playing the piano live.

She is playing the piano but it is not miked up, hence it being a live vocal but a mimed piano. The 3 performances she did the same year on a tv show called "the beat" she mimes the vocal AND the piano. Or go look at the clips i have uploaded from "this morning" where she does a live vocal but the piano and harpsi are not miked up while she plays them along to the backing track.

Nowadays she tends to do fully live songs in tv studios, but back in the 90's due to tv studios tighter quicker schedules (less time to soundcheck) most were just a live vocal - on the UK shows at least.
