America needs to re-claim our top spot in the sprint events. America owned the 50 and 100 free up until Popov. But thats because all the best swimmers in the world come to America to train. Oh well.
I know they are and everything but still, isn't that impressive enough? We may not have the fastest swimmer in the events but we do have swimmers that are incredibly close.
I think phelps has the ability to better all of his times. The only one i think he might never be able to break is that 200 freestyle. When I saw him swim that at the olympics it was the first time i watched him really take out the beginning part of his race. He swam it perfectly. I think he could also do some damage in the 100 and 400 freestyle. His split in the relay for the 100 free was 47.5, which is the american record.
i agree. i think he could get the world record in the 400 free. if you compare his 200 IM to his 400 IM, his 400 is so much better. so if you do the same for free, and he holds the WR for the 200 free.... he could add another record to his arsenal.
Carlosfast12 I think you are wrong. Micheal Phelps is not the ideal swimmer for backstroke. Look at his hands at the mid-point. At this moment rule Aaron Peirsol and Ryan Lochte. Peirsol is built more for backstroke. Lochte is swimming technicaly best.
I suppose I do not understand why everyone is arguing. All of the Olympians are fantastic and competitive. Arguing who's the best or whatever the case is a waste. I acknowledge how radiant they are; not by who's better.
phelps did swim 53.01 last year and i think he wasn´t even tapered....he certainly is capable of beating peirsol, he did it this year in santa clara after swimming 2 other events and he had a faster in season time than peirsol...however peirsol has beaten him most of the times (100 & 200) so you can´t really assure he will beat peirsol in a major meet
Nick Brunelli has recently swam in 52.91, the second best time ever. Peirsol, Brunelli, Pehlps, Grevers, Lochte, they have the top best times in this event. If there is an event of the americans, that is the 100 backstroke
actually Phelps is ranked 11th by the FINA in the 100 back. Honestly do you believe that he could have won against the best 100 backstroker in the world after swimming like 30 tests and also is the fact that Peirsol is that event record holder thats a joke man
Listen moron. You don't know anything about swimmin'. Michael phelps owns the third fastest time in history in the 100 backstroke(53.01) and the third fastest time in history in the 200 backstroke(1.54.65). He as an awesome backstroker and has beaten peirsol one time in the 100 backstroke this year. He's ranked 11th by the fina coz he rarely competes in these events so his ranking in due to his lacking of entering events. He's announced he's gonna drop the 400MI to focus on the 100 back.
Listen idiot, do your fucking research and stop bashing me okay?In the United States Nationals in Indianapolis, Phelps nearly took down the world record in the 100 back, thanks to a clocking of 53.01. The time was the second-fastest in history before the olympic games and scared the global standard of Peirsol. If Phelps decides to give the 100 back a go, he must instantly be considered a gold-medal challenger in any event. After all, he's the best all-around performer ever.
Listen you are considering only the FINA world information. They didn't include the 53.01 that michael clocked in the united states nationals in indianapolis. Do your research. Michael is a qualified backstroker.
im not saying hes not a good backstroker, just not in Peirsol's level, stop repeating that number like it wass the holy grail they are several swimmers who do much better times than that
Listen man, 53:01 is the fifth best time of all time in the 100 back and Michael is gonna challange Aaron Peirsol next year. You might be skeptical but Phelps is gonna be competing regularly in back events and the 100 freestyle so Alan Bernard and Aaron Peirsol, you guys you better watch out coz super man is gonna give you a run for your money.
Peace andres, let's not argue anymore, we'll see next year when Michael and Peirsol start clashing each other in the back events. I can't wait to see them in Rome 2009.
Phelps is certainly capable of beating Peirsol as much as Lochte is. He's 0.33 slower than him in the 200 and yea at one point he almost got the 100 back WR with his 53.01. But yea, its entirely possible that Peirsol will hold him off and never be beaten by Phelps. Phelps can beat Peirsol but that isn't to say that he will
you are nothing but an ignorant cocksucking Phelps groupie, im sorry but no Michael Phelps could never beat Peirsol in an big meet. You're the one who doestn know shit about swimming, nobody is invincible or can do it all, grow up
listen asshole, i know more ahout swimming than you, im a swimmer and Michael hasn't beaten peirsol in an important event coz michael has never taken backstroke events seriously BUT Michael is a great backstroker and next year he's gonna have the 100 back as one of his favorite events so he's gonna challange Peirsol in the event. Michael is capable of beating anybody in backstroke events including your beloved peirsol, got it?
whoaaao, you're a swimmer?amazing, so what idiot im a swimmer too the thing is you dont know shit, but this isnt a contest. By the way you should at least be aware of the world rankings before you say such retarded things
don't be stupid, the world rankings could be misleading idiot. Michael is ranked low coz he barely competes in back events due to his tight schedule however he's gonna make the 100 back a priority next so peirsol better watch out and you don't a fool, Michael is a world class backstroker for your information.
You're contradicting yourself, you say that Nobody is invincible and in the same sentence you state that Michael will never beat Peirsol......You're wrong Michael is more than capable of beating Aaron in the 100 and 200 back. Watch this video on youtube so you can see how michael can go toe to toe with aaron. the title is "Lochte Phelps and Peirsol Attack 200 Back at 06 Summer Nats? look it up in Youtube and shut up fuji boy..........
no im not contradicting myself, pay atention when you read, im saying that Phelps cant win eight medals in beijing and then beat peirsol in his own event wich by the way he broked again the WR. You cant compare a lousy national with a world meet, speacially an olympic and speacially when theres 10 swimmers between Phelps and Peirsol
this is gona get a dicking, tancock just went 24.47 WR on the 50m (and 1.57.79 on 200im for those interested) not saying he's gona win Beijing, but like every other record this year I think it'l tumble come US trials and Olympics....
yeah... well guess what.. I AM THE BEST i go 2 seconds flat in the 50 free. what now?! jkjk lol. srry had to do that. actually i race 100 breast in yards. i just started this year swimming with my high school. i dropped my 100 breast time 19 seconds to hit a 1:29 at sections. i was the only jv to go to sections, and one of three freshman. im not bragging, im just proud of my first ever swim season.. how do you guys think i am doing, time drop wise? (the season was about three months long)
AMAZING peirsol is the bomb, I love how he throws his cap back, like ya I own this! lol, oh and swimmvp I doubt those are meters times, so quit showing off, your not that impressive, sorry
ya'll some mean mutha fuckers lol but ok since we are all braggin here im 15 i go 1:03.51 in 100 breast. 23 flat in the 50 and 51.67 in the 100 free but you guys got me in the fly i suck at that

i think phelps should continue his best events and break times no one could reach.
1. 400IM-4:03.84 (he should try to break 4 minutes)
2. 200IM-1:54.23 (he should try to break 1:50)
3. 100M butterfly-50.4 (he should try to beat crockers record and break 50 second mark)
4 200M butterfly-1:52.03 (he should try to break 1:50)
5.200M freestyle-1:42.96 (he should try to break 1:40)

the only one i think phelps could smash is the 200 fly cuz his goggles filled up at the olympics and he still broke his WR.

so could one of his records be 1:59.99 and your hope would be fro him to go under 1:50?
