  • you know the channel girlpainting? if you could make a painting tutorial in the way she does it, (with filming etc.) I'll be in you debt xd

  • Thanks alot for this great tutorial!

  • the downside to orks, you spend 3 hours doing 1 model for a 20 man sqaud with a 6+ armour save : (

  • @PaynekillerJim I painted an orc nob today.... I added the base coat for everything and a wash... took me 2 hours.... No idea how you people can paint that fast xd

  • I've been playing Warhammer for 10 years now and this is the most inspiringly detailed painting video I've seen. Congratulations on a great video and thank you so much for sharing your talent with us!

  • Thanks, needed a ork skin receipe where i don't have to mix a bunch of colors all the time, now i can paint the bulk of my army faster. great vid, not a fan of the music you chose but thats my only gripe, keep'em coming

  • whats the bands name in 9:39

  • I'm subscribing, and why this video and your channel isn't at top rated ones? This is awesome. Thnx for tips.

  • Great tutorial. I'm new to the hobby and I've been putting off painting the orks in the Black Reach set, mainly focusing on my Space Marine army. But your video gave me the push I needed to started on the Orks. After the 1st few models I think I've reached a point where I won't be ashamed to show them on the table. I appreciate how you break down the steps on paper first. Gives a better understanding of the process instead of just trying to emulate what other tutorials show.

  • Great video. It makes it so much easier that you show how to do it on paper. So i actually have an idea what raised areas to look for.

    Thanks muchly.

  • Great tutorial thanks very much! It's really helpful as I'm just stating my Ork army!

  • awsom vid mate il paint all my orcs like this from now on very down to earth top vid

  • This vid helped me produce me best work yet, Ty and keep making videos plz

  • Sorry, had to make a second comment xP But damn your hand's steady. And your colours applies nicely on the surface! My hand's still waaay too shaky for detailing : / Even teeth and especially eyes are a pest!

    Once agin, nice result :)

  • Love your vids, just found them today but I'm sure I'm gonna try to apply these tecniques to my own models.

I started WH40K last summer so my painting with orks is pretty basic, I don't even do highlights even though they've tipped me so gotta try soon, but I tend to mess that up by making the lines to thick. Just to much contrast, it won't blend!

My own skin is as simple as just 100% Snot Green with a Thrakka Green wash. But I think I'll start to highlight that afterwards.

    Great vids! :D

  • Veryyyyy good video! helped me out heaps!

  • Hey Cataffafish this is a great vid thank you for spending so much time in making this tut.

espacily your paperwork is a great way to explain what and when you do something.

  • This is brilliant. Thanks a lot. I'll definitely be trying this out.

  • also sorry about the double comment, what are you painting on- is that foam?

  • could you leave a paint colors list in the comments next time, that would help alot!

  • Thanks Cat, just picked up a load of AoBR Orks and this should help me out a great deal. Hope you are well by the way.

  • Thanks for the help!

  • That was the best orc skin tutorial I have yet come across! I would have never thought to use a brown wash to bring the colors together. Have you ever considered a darker tone for the skin?

  • @Hunsiki Thanks so much. I find that once the devlan mud wash is applied, it darkens it down quite a bit. I have never tried anything darker as I find this dark enough :) Cheers and thanks for the comments

  • Thanks for taking the time to post this video man ;)

This was just the inspiration i needed to start painting my AoBR Orks (didn't really know where to start as i don't wanna mess them up).

Thanks to this vid, i'll be giving it a bash as soon as i get more colours (only have catachan, camo & goblin greens....scorched brown, skull atm)

Oh and you're definitely not wasting your time ;)

  • Very good job love the sharp highlights :) Really stands out!

Can you please tell me which song you used at 9:30? I really like it

  • As someone new to painting miniatures, this video is a huge help. Thanks a lot!

  • Very good! Thanks a lot.

  • Excellent tutorial; I will have to try this at some point. Keep making good videos!

  • Thanks a lot for this Video. Although I do not play Warhammer I plan on painting my Warmachine Trollblood army as Orks. I am new to painting and this is very very helpful.

  • This is vital information lol thank you so much bud.

  • Hey I always love your tips and techniques really helpful bro. This is a little different than how I do greenskin but I actually gave it a try and really like doing the lines to help with muscle structure. I think I will use to and combine it with my technique to bring the realism out a bit more. So thanks so so much for taking the time to do this definately not a waste of time :)

    Take care friend,

    James a.k.a. FSR22

  • very good video. think im going to try this out on the boyz i havnt painted to my army colours yet, been trying to get a good video showing detail and this is spot on.

also what brushes do you use? i'm looking for new ones for the detail

  • @eddybear209 Thanks so much. The brushes I have been using are actually Games workshop brushes :0 They are only about 4 bucks locally here and I have been quite happy with them! I have used Kolinsky series 7, GREAT BRUSHES but VERY expensive!

    cat

  • Hey, it looks good...but I'm WAY to lazy to do that many steps. I personally think basecoat+wash looks just as good in most cases... :D

Also, I find it's usually easier to paint the eyes last, with a redoncolously small brush. Ever tried that? :)

  • I never thought of painting on paper first. That's probably the smartest way to pick out a color scheme without messing up a model. Where did you print those? I'd like to start planning a color scheme for my Dark Eldar.

  • @mam1124 Hey Dude,

I just photocopied an actual part at 400% :) Cheers and good luck!

  • If you're like me and need to write a list of the paints used down, they are as follows:

dark angels green, snot green, goblin green, devlan mud, mechrite red, blood red, khemri brown, bleached bone, red gore and shining gold.

  • Great tutorial mate. I have an ork 40k model I got in a white dwarf laying around. I don't play 40k but I love the Space Ork aesthetic. Might give this technique a try :D

  • @VariousFisticuffs If you do give it a try, show your results!!

    Cat

  • @Catattafish Undercoated it today, will make a vid as a reply once it is done :)

  • @Catattafish Uploading now :)

  • @VariousFisticuffs Just watched it! Well done! Please submit your video to this one as a video response!

    Cheers!

  • This one is awesome! Great way to get lots of model done in no time (with addition of your previous orc tutorial on their clothes). Please make a helluva lot more tutorials'

  • Very nicely I'll have to try it out once I finish up on my current army and get back to my orc army. Just wanted to also thank you for your videos. I enjoy them and find usefully information in them.

  • Amazing man, this is what painters need! Helps more then a how to book of 30 dollars!!

  • Awesome vid man, I'm painting a bunch of orks atm, not warhammer but old fantasy orks from some discontinued game lol. But awesome vid and thanks for sharing us these tips. :)

  • Great tutorial, buddy. I think a well done face can take a minature to the next level & painted that face as part of a complete model limits how you can lay a brush to it. Love the idea of painting it prior to assembly...definitely gonna give that a try...Immeiately went into my list of favorites..well done and I really do appreicaite you guys that edit and create such quality vids..makes my wysiwyg flip vids shamefully easy to make and post up and I still stuggle to find time to do it..Jim.

  • @Jedijim252 Thanks so much for the kind comment Jim!

    Cat

  • loving the tuts.

  • keep up the tutorials they are great to watch

  • and sorry for the language, i'm dutch

  • this is thé best video of orc painting there is, it's just beautifull how cartoony look the orc has.(a orc has to be cartoony) thx for this

  • Fantastic tutorial, the detail is fantastic and you make it so clear and easy to follow.

  • Your tutorials are quite literally the most helpful thing I've found on youtube, in terms of painting miniatures. Your standard amount of detail and dedication is pretty damn high, so it's a nice goal to set on myself.

  • Superb video

  • Awesome music. What songs are they

  • @ollysp666 So have you tried this technique yet? Does it look more realistic now?

    Cheers!

  • Great vid!!! I must try a test fig out of this way. I like your 2D demos too. They are very helpful. Love Ghazzy in the begining. Evil Suns fit him well I guess.

    Gotz

  • great vid

  • great vid

  • Very helpful man! Keep on the good work, I have learnt a lot from your tutorials and I am not expecting to stop anything yet! This tutorial will be great from my Dragon Ogres!

  • very thorough cat! great work on this for sure!!

  • Great Tut, I wish i had found it earlier, i use the same 3 green method except i use Vallejo "Heavy green extra opaque" as a base and use their "black green" ink as a wash before final highlight. keep doing these Tutorials they will be really useful for new painters and people getting new armies alike.

  • Excellent tutorial. I especially like the idea of working on paper. May have to try that myself to experiment with different color schemes.

  • Cat big thumbs up from me on this! Now, look at all the positive feedback you have recieved on this vid.....your tuts help sooo many people its rediculous to even think that you are wasting ypur time. For me, your tuts are a huge help and inspiration!!! Please dont ever stop!

  • This will work great for me when I start building and painting my orks.

  • I really like the theory part on your tuts. Shows most of the time much more of the thoughts you have behind your way of painting as if you just splashed paint on the miniatures. Makes your tuts somewhat different from others.

  • @Paradox0n Thanks so much!

  • Excellent work on the tutorial buddy!

  • @Generalsplatton Thanks Mr. General!

  • thank mate you are helping me and thanks

  • You asked for feedback.

I like how you paint on paper, but as the washing doesn't really work I think you should just save the wash for when doing the model. You can still talk about the wash but dont waste paint on it on paper.

Other than that I like it very much. Nice to get a light theory on paper and then on the model.

  • great vid man thanks

  • by far the best tutorials on the web.

  • I have been painting Orcs for years and this still helped me a lot!! Your time is definately not wasted!! More tutorials please!! =)

  • just a question cat, in the lore, the orks are supposed to have a darker skin the stronger they are, do you apply that when you paintyour orks (ie: warboss has a darker skint than the boyz)

  • Awesome tutorial but funny part is that I always thought that Scorpion green was lighter than Goblin Green

  • @an00bisRa1 Scorpion green is in fact lighter! I just don't use it in my method. I like my Orks Darker :)

    Cat

  • @Catattafish oh woops i thought you were using scorpion green but your using snot green haha. Your orks really nice tho

  • nice tutorial cat, I made sure to pass it to the guys of my gaming group so they can check it ;)

  • @Nusphigore Thanks Nus~!

  • So how long does it take you on average to paint a miniature? I'm starting to cut time but wondering how it compares to others :P, i know speed isnt key, but when you wanna paint an army gotta make as much time as you can :P.

  • @Slyboogy07 Hey Dude,

Time for sure is important! I would say a squad of 10 ork boyz with no converting would take me about 4 days now? but that would be non stop painting! Any independant character like what I just did for TheDizmo (aka BigMike) takes about 2 full days of painting.

    Cheers!!

  • @Catattafish So in hours would you say that appx 6-10 is good for a hero?, My Dragonborn took 10 but a ninja i did only took around 5, everything else 7 or so.

  • @Slyboogy07 Yea dude, that sounds pretty much where I am at too! It all depends on the particular model but I think you are right in the ballpark for my skill and time,

    Cat

  • @Catattafish Cool :)! I just saw that one you did for mike, beastly work dude, looked awesome, and great vids btw i subbed.

    Sly

  • thumbs up BIG TIMES! ;-)

  • Great video, great depth. I don't play Orcs or Orks but this kind of vid can apply to a lot of different things, and I will definitely refer to it.

    Keep it up.

  • where did u get that drill? it seems so much better then using my pin vice on metal models

  • @iTzStyles In Canada, I bought it at Canadian Tire, but I know its available worldwide. It is called the Dremel stylus. That tool has been TREMENDOUS in helping me with this hobby, especially as you say, with metal!

    Cheers!

    Cat

  • great vid Cat, this is very encouraging for my orks I just finished, i only missed one of your highlight layers so I guess I did a pretty good job for my first orks.

  • @IBCRAZY8220 You certainly did a great jov for your first Orks IB! Thanks for the comment,

    Cat

  • Dude it may sound gay but you got a really soothing voice!! Your tutorials are why I started subbing to you. Nice tutorial anyways :)

  • @TheChesneyChrist Lols. nope, not gay sounding, I have heard that numerous times :) Thanks for the comment!

    cat

  • wow, loved the tip on the head, and the painting tech. going to try it out on some of my AoBR orks. One question do you prime? might have just been the coloring but looked like bare plastic? Thank you!

  • @Firespyer Thanks for the comments, sorry i didn't mention in the video, yes I do prime them chaos black. Cheers!!

  • Now would you say you could apply the same idea to armour? I'll get a model together and get you a picture of something I've done with your tutorial. Going on, you should keep this up, you go on a depth that other tutorials do not go and that makes it unique and well worth the length of the video (plus you burned a lot of time in between my classes)

  • Very nice love the in depth paint structuring, helped me understand where I'm going wrong. Thanks for this!!
