  • already this is the original video of the friday night in san francisco guitar concert on Paco and Meola

  • One of the greatest albums I own, and one of my favorite songs of all time

  • awsome one of my best Albums i have.

  • What few people know is that during the "Friday Night..." performance, some asshole walked up to the stage and threw a handful of change on stage at the trio's feet, turned and walked out of the building. Very odd...

  • Comment removed

  • I was at the San Francisco performance that ended up on the album. It was something special, for sure. We hit Led Zeppelin, the Stones, the Tubes (at Bimbo's 365 Club, in their heyday!) etc, in those days. Not to mention Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres, Sam Kinnison et al at the stand-up comedy clubs... special days in SF!

  • THIS IS INSANE!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT U ACTUALLY HAVE THIS!! THX VERY VERY MUCH FOR SHARING THESE JEWEL!!

  • yeaa! this is the original recording! at the 2:00 mins of video, the shut of emotion is also in the disc

  • i m not critisizing this video at all, only sharing what i know......dont take it otherwise.this version is also very nice........try to get the 11:27 mins performence video if possible..............

  • sorry to say budy, but this is neither the first med.sundance nor the original recorded 'fri....sanfransisco' med. sundance...the very original first song belongs to al's album-elegant gypsy which is 5:14 mins in length(1977) and the most famous version of this 'friday....sanfransisco' sundance includes john mclaughlin and 11:27 mins in length(1980). unfortunately, no one have the videos of those.5:14 mins sundance was not recorded in video, dont know about the 11:27 mins performence.

  • @valueless11 aside from the audio/video being off a little bit, this is the version i think most people have heard. (its definitely the one i'm used to listening to.. the part from 1:51 to 2:00 would be pretty impossible to play the same twice lol (including the guy in the audience screaming)

  • @rizzope42 i agree with u.mp3 version for this is actually teqnicaly remastered of this performence.specially the ending of mp3 version is totally different.but u r right that starting part is same.the mp3 version is a bit longer than this one also. but what i mean to say,THIS IS NOT THE FIRST MED;SUNDANCE PLAYED BY THEM.original one is a track from the album 'elegant gypsy'.seems like paco and al never played that tune again in any live show.that is the most famous one. plz share ur thaughts.

  • @valueless11 oh, of course not, the original is slower and the solos are not as technical. i prefer this one by far, though

  • Where and how can I learn to do this???

  • kill the camera, and soundman

  • Fantastic thanks for sharing these videos with us!

  • @Albertan1956 You are welcome!

  • the best version.

  • @Camicente Yeah i know that! I just missed Johnny ;)

  • It's write in the sunshine! Amazing!

  • Quel bonheur.

  • watch?v=QQ0rsgif4IU

    Great sound

  • Where's John McLaughlin?

  • @Jazzman2696 John plays in other 2 oportunities in this album, there are 3 themes that they play 2 by 2, and other 2 that they lay toghether. I still don't understand if this was one night only or several nights, because the album theme is different, also longer. And there are more themes that don't figure on the CD, but we can listen to them in YT... can anyone help me?

  • @Mellevaelslide Maybe it's a completely different show that takes place on ANOTHER Friday night in San Francisco without McLaughlin lol

  • @Jazzman2696 I don't really know... but sure sounds great!

  • 3 people who watched this were deaf

  • @Mellevaelslide or jingle bells XD

    bg

  • cd version had better ending!!

    PAZZESCO. BRAVISSIMI

  • @oldpreach Kill Bill!

  • @AsperHouse: Feelings are intense, words are trivial ♫

  • What's not to like! :)

  • what do you do, when the first song in the concert is something like this?

do you just go out thinking this was the best thing i ve ever seen in my life?

  • amazing!

  • Real men play guitar without pick...

IMPRESIONANTE LO FACIL QE PARECE Y LA CASTA DE AMBOS .... FALTA Mclaughlin ... EL TERCER RAYO ... Gracias por tu regalo Cloppol

  • I saw Al DiMeola in 83 or 84 at the Paradise in Boston, . the stage is only 3 feet high, . I sat right in front of him and after he was done, . .I was ashamed that I had hands. . . .it's just staggering to watch someone play in front of you at that level.

  • 2 dislikes? jajaja two idiots.

The story goes that Paco Learned How to improvise on this tour.

yeah. LEARNED. at still it this is a monumental recording, with some of, if not the best, guitar playing ever.

  • 2 dislikes? jajaja two idiots.

  • I thought I know what music is, today I recognize that I didn't really, before I discovered that piece. It takes all of my body and soul. I was born in '88, so I wasn't on earth when they played live on Friday Night in San Francisco. But I can say this music is so much better than the crap people usually listen to, today...

  • I have listened to most of what many consider to be the greatest guitar albums. I've listened to all the Jimi Hendrix albums, Most of Clapton's albums, a lot of beck, zeppelin, van halen, django, sagovia, larry coryell, chet atkins and many more guitar albums but none of those still come close after listening to this album for 2 years.

  • @happyface4444 Wow, you actually listened to this album for two whole years? I've been listening to it for forty years. Your comparison with Hendrix, Clapton, etc. is nonsense. My guess is you're a youngster who should be more worried about the prom than music you know nothing about.

  • @jdrock14 hey i know music pretty well. just because your going through your midlife crisis doesn't mean you have to try to ruin my favorite album. I wasn't saying those guys were bad, they are good. I love hendrix and clapton and own most of there stuff(except for the crappy posthumous hendrix stuff that they keep trying to rerelease). i just think these guys are better. if you don't like the music than why are you on here?

  • @happyface4444 1st of all, I think these guys are incredible, that's why I've been listening to them since before you were born. 2nd, my point was, you can't compare these guy's with other guitarist's. This form of play is extremely unique. These guys can't play like Clapton, and Clapton can't play like them. It's not who's better, it's who you like. i.e. I play football, you play baseball, who's better?

  • @jdrock14 i think that's why happyface was expressing the fact that he prefers these guys to the other's, if you have a problem with that, then it is you who is out of order, like you say "It's not who's better, it's who you like"

and just because you listen to something for longer doesn't mean you have a greater appreciation of it.

i can't believe you managed to confabulate a contention with happyfacy over such a trivial point.

  • @happyface4444 Sorry, I forgot to mention this. As far as the midlife crisis thing. WOW, You are an idiot!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Devine music.

  • Where's mclaughlin?

  • @jdrock14 The first three songs of the album were done by two of the guitar trio. rio ancho has paco and al, short tales of... has john and al, and frevo rasgado has paco and john.

Fantasia suite is done by all three of them live and guardian angels was a studio recording of all 3 of them(but they did play guardian angels live that night).

  • Mamma mia.. Mi fa venire i bridivi ascoltarla..

  • Isn't something bordering on impossible to perform this piece at any two separate times the same way twice? I mean, somebody obviously knows background - and I can understand studio enhancements (although rough hewn would still be superior) - but wouldn't be minimal, considering the notes we're hearing are those we're seeing their fingers blurr- ah, playing? (Isn't it like the whole 'no two snowflakes' thing?)

  • So from 5:07 on, this was completely redone in the studio. Very interesting, to say the least. Reminds us all that these guys are human, too. Although I should mention that this was pretty early in the tour--by the time they played the Hollywood Bowl in August of "81, when I saw them, they probably could have attained 'Friday Night"s level of technical performance with no overdubs.

  • Still, the scream from the audience at 2:00, when the impossible to make out solo ends, is one of my nicer moments.

  • have a look at him at about 3.50, he actually smiles!

  • words can not describe what I feel now! It looks hard but they enjoy it! And paco can even laugh whan it comes do to his solo! Maestro is the name!

  • I wrote it backwards my bad

  • Sorry Gtrrplayer 77, but your comments are fallacious and completely wrong. If you listen at 7:12 of the CD (Friday Night at San Francisco), there is a several second long bass scale played by Al DiMeola that does not occur at all in this video. In fact, listen from 7:00 to 7:45 of the CD, there is no such lead by DiMeola anywhere in this video. In addition, the CD version is 11:35 in length and this video version is only 10:25.

This is not from Friday Night in San Francisco. So apologize.

  • por utorrent! te lo puedes descargar

  • i'm sorry but this is not the video of the concert recorded in the saturday night in san francisco record.

  • I feel quite sad... I mean, they're like gods of guitar but, I thought I had the original live song in my disc for many years. Why did they need to cheat us?

  • Pure harmony.

  • Makes me feel alive!

  • This just remind me that there is some good music left just got to look for it in the right place music industry full of crappy music and crappy artists right now I'm glad I found this havnt heard this in a while

  • @gnagetchu Look for "Rodrigo & Gabriela" I think you will like it.

  • Where is John Mclaughlin?

  • Best of the best

  • Paco de Lucia, artistic name of Francisco Sanchez Gomes is a Spanish flamenco guitarist. His last name "Gomes" is because of his mother, Lucia Gomes, born in Castro Marim Portugal. He is considered one of the best guitar masters of all time. Has received many awards. He’s Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Cadiz and the Berklee College of Music, Boston University, award given in May 2010.

The song he plays in this video is "Entre Dos Aguas", composed by him

  • @HannaCarp

Not "Ente Dos aguas" but "Rio Ancho"

  • @ Taiji87 May be you have the reason but me too, perhaps is a mixing of two songs

  • @ Taiji87 May be you have the reason but me too, is a mixing of two songs

  • @HannaCarp lol nice try but you fail at it

  • pay attention kiddies! shredding was'nt invented by malmsteen.

  • man, when i bought this cd, i couldnt listen to the elegant gypsy recording anymore; this is just too good

  • I agree with what's said, this is the best recorded live guitar in history. What I think really makes it sparkle is that fact that it seems to me, imo, that Al DiMeola is desperately trying to keep up with Paco rhythmically, knows he can't, and ends up throwing the buzzsaw right hand like no one's ever done.

Either way, it seems like Paco is in charge here. Listen to the intro lick to both of their first solos, and tell me Paco's doesn't somehow fit better.

  • the playing on this is superhuman1 Di meola's picking hand has a mind of it's own.

  • The left one´s "Al" from "Home Improvement.".. ;-) No, just joking. I´m glad I found this vid, looong Time ago this was one of my favorite records and I didn´t even know there´s a video. Thank you for posting this!

  • two angels in human form :))

  • A Masterpiece!

  • Enjoy the next ten minutes with two of the greatest guitarists ever to walk amongst you . . .

  • Those are two of the best guitar players known...but i stop and think that there are some guitarists unknown that are much better...as for me....i only hope that i can get half as good as they are

  • @TudorGliga26 well, i wouldn't say much better, but at least as good as... for example my guitar teacher: he is not famous at all, but he is one of the best guitar players there is... i mean, sure he's not the best in the world, because Al is, but he's like in third place on my list, he is really amazing

  • Well, actually this version seems to be a bit different from the album version, which I listened to at least a hundred times over the years. It's similar, but not identic, definitely not the same version as on the album. It's audible when listening carefully to the album version. It's strange, some parts within the song are identic, some differ. Is it possible, that they put together parts from different concerts for the final album version? I don't know..

  • @Zelamir You are right, I do not know what they did actually!

  • @Zelamir

You're right! But mystery still remains...:)

  • A kind of magic.

  • 3 génies !

  • el maestro paco!!!!

  • There's no words to explain what this song made me feell!!! Brilliant is not enough...

  • I'm gonna be smiling all day from this! Fantastic!

  • I could practice all my life and still not play like that!

  • @GatoWales if god played guitar he would be Paco!!

  • awesome...marvellous...wonderful....

  • good god man, I...I want to play like that guy man, i'm very musically oriented and i can't begin to describe just how awesome i feel just by listening to this

  • Stellar !

  • every time that a listen this, i always see this of a different angle

    and always scares me!

  • I know just how you feel man.

  • WOW that was great to watch. I've been listen to this on LP and CD since 1992, and I have tried playing this number on guitar hundreds of times. I never knew this concert was recorded on movie.

GENIO indiscutible e inigualable

  • hard to expressive when you play so damn fast. still good, just could be more moving.

  • KAKVI VIRTUOZI!!!

  • this is the actual show, the lp is edited. And sped up a tiny bit as well.

Still the best live guitar ever recorded. Ever. 30 years later - this still owns everything out there, and these guys can still pull it off, if a bit less articulate.

So adept and so melodic. Count your blessings to enjoy this - we will not see players like this for a long time.

  • @Gtrplayer77 I agree with you.

  • @Gtrplayer77 No its the greatest guitar album ever, not just live.

  • @Gtrplayer77 A friend of mine just allowed me to discover McLaughlin through him. A mere month or two later- I see an ad that he is coming to town to play this Friday night. I got a ticket so quick.......I feel SO blessed that I am able to even go to the show.
