Love the music! I grew up in a Pentecostal church. We did not handle snakes but I do remember feeling the spirit of the Lord move this way. It is an awesome feeling. I do, however, believe the same feelings can be accomplished without taking up serpents.

The black artists & Elvis who founded the early rock-n-roll movement were from pentecostal church back round.  That's why the music took the world by storm-true rockin' music was from the Holy Ghost; you can feel it in your soul & through your whole body. I wouldent do as they do.. However I do respect their faith in God. the bible says and they shall take up serpents and all that. but I'll have to respect it from afar. I do not feel that these ppl. are tempting God. But if I'd do it I would be tempting God, only because I was'nt raised in this particular religion. And I do believe that the are very sincere ppl. aswell. as long as they do it unto the Lord. he will honor that faith that they have. it really amazes me. and I'm glad for feedom go US

@TheAnn2shoes You're not being at all rude, but your comment does come across as judgmental. I don't think any group's interpretation of the bible is any better or worse than anyone else's. This one poses great risks, but I don't think it necessarily reflects the intelligence or level of education of the congregation. Fundamentalist religions take literal interpretations from the bible as a general rule.

I can't help wondering that if these people are geographically isolated and not perhaps educated to a high degree, that they might be easily persuaded to interpret certain scriptures in the way that they do. I am not hating on them though because they are very funny to watch and they look like those inbred mutants from The Hills Have Eyes.

@TheAnn2shoes The thing is, you can manipulate ill-educated people - a few of them have actually died from snake bites (including one family of five children who have been orphaned). I love the bible, but I do not believe we are meant to take it literally. They look as if they have got themselves into some kind of trance-like state, don't they? Fascinating stuff though, it's a strange world, for sure.

Dewey Chafin is pretty incredible. Watch him in action from 2:07-2:25. There's no stopping him. I watched Karen Kramer's original film, "The Jolo Serpent Handlers" last week, which was filmed many years before this and saw Dewey get bitten for the 61st time or so. Everyone in the congregation was up with him all night praying really hard. I have to admit that things got pretty weird at that point, but Chafin was as cool as cucumber. He had no fear at all. Pretty amazing.
