What style of cumbia is this? In my country, cumbia was born as an expression of enslaved people. They had chains in their feet so they couldnt move them at all. For Colombian people cumbia dancing is all about hips. Check Shakira´s vid "hips don´t lie" and you´ll see what Im talking about!

I got lot of respect for the instructor in this video but I must say that it isn't how cumbia is danced... but the way it was instructed is quite similar to cumbia. It is more of salsa, the backrock movement. Cumbia is danced with a cumbia music. It is very hard to teach without using the cumbia music. Usually, there is a tap at the pause just before doing the back rock motion, and this tap follows with a hump motion of the body which goes well with the cumbia rhythm.

this looks like salsa. In Costa Rica, cumbia (swing criollo) has a 3 step count, and it's bouncy. nothing like this.
