The stock's okay, but only until you drop it or accidental bang it on something, then it breaks, as others have experienced...not enough meat in front of the saddle...they break when in a scabbard for your trail bike or on your horse. They look okay, but break very easily, as experienced...useless in the real world, but great for window dressing.
@golfer15963 Well, there is a demo for this rifle..though the groups are not good...it's not the gun but the shooter. There is another Demo video of a "Tactical" 10/22 that is in my vids that has a CF VQ barrel and I shot groups with that with a scope. So check it out
@Ondure The stock is actually one off...even thought it took the same design. The wood is lighter wood (yes it's a wood stock) WITH shorter dimesions and the buttpad is custom laser engraved...on top of that the paint is ppg customized with clear. A bit overboard but if you want a "one off", you had to pay dearly for it. Not recommended for most btw.
looks like an aborted fetus...ugliest gun i have ever seen youd have to be 1 a woman with her husbands credit card and 2 on crack to pay 1300 for that ...that thing.
Knowing a litttle about auto paint, I would have said the same thing...unless she wanted "rattle can" black.
Was the CF barrel really worth it? I spent a few bucks on fine-tuning my Rem597 bull barrel, and it'll make 3/4" groups at 100 yds all day long, or until I get tired of shooting.
if u r getting3/4" at 100 all day....don't do anything to it. That's Olympic accuracy...bettering most br-50 bench guys with their $3000+ rigs who might do that when the conditions are ideal. CF barrels is really for weight..this rifle really needed a weight reduction cuz of the shooter
for the money you spent on this you are stupid not to get a better scope than that crappy centerpoint get the centerpoint adventure class for that bad boy
There's no restriction on the number of rimfire cartridges you can put in a magazine (aside from the magazine's capacity, of course), but for centerfire rounds in semi-auto firearms, I believe the limit is 5. I could be wrong, though.
no offence, and i know youll say its not your gun and you dont own it and such, since i am a 10/22 owner myself but, everything excluding the colour is very nice. im not diggin the salmon/pink/red/orange-y colour going on.
4) One last thought!! I live in Ohio, so it will take awhile to warm up here, but when it warms up for you, how about a video of you and her at the range with it. I have already added this video to my favorites. Maybe you could have your daughter say hi to "Kimberly" and I could show my daughter. That could be special. Thanks! Roger
I already video her shooting. U have to be added to my friend and I can release the video of her shooting to you as it is private. She was 7 at that time the video took.
3) On retrospect, depending on how old your girl is, and how long she has been shooting, did you considder the Volquartsen .22 short conversion for her? I have a farm, so I shoot with my girl in the back yard and haven't taken her to the range with me yet. This has given me something to think about. As soon as it warms up, I'll take her and let her shoot one of my .22 Ruger off a rest, and if she favors it, I'll build her a .22 short Ruger for now. Thanks! Roger
She's been shooting for a couple of years now. I made that rifle before she was even born. She has no problem shooting the .22lr...its cheaper anyways.
2) At least you will be able to update her Ruger and accomodate for her growth as she gets older. I figgured the gun would be a hand me down for her now 6.5 year old brother, but the it will just sit for grandkids if we still have our rights that long. I hope your daughter loves shooting as much as you do, and I hope she likes spending time with her daddy as much as mine.
It is a very nice piece. How old is your daughter?? My girl is now 9&1/2. I bought her the stainless Rossi .22 LR / .410 for Christmas when she was 8&1/2. It still wieghs too much and is a little large. I should have taken her with me to the gun show, and should of gotten her a cricket. Still, she enjoys shooting shorts through it at cans, but it willbe a long time before she can appreciate the accuracy of a rifle like you have put together for your daughter.
I am sure that you hand sanded the barrel to fit, but you have a Volquartsen barrel that is already tapped for the Volquartsen barrel mounted scope mount, it would help tighten the groups a little. I am not a fan of the carbon fiber barrels, although since you built this for your daughter, I can certainly understand the want to save weight. I find the Kid trigger vastly better then the Volquartsen, but to light for the daughter again?
That actually is not a Boyds stock. It's actually remade with lighter materials via Mike Turner where he even shortened the dimensions to fit a youth, custom butt pad, and PPG automotive paint. The cantilever mount is heavier than the T09 so any weight savings is necessary.
KiDDs are decent trigger groups. For overall shooting, the CPC and VQ TG2000s are my choice...not too light is a good thing. Plus just need to understand the trigger reset to get better groups.
the rifled portion of the barrel is steel..you can see the shiny part near the base of the receiver. Then they make he barrel really thin and used a CF tube to tension the barrel...nonetheless, it's light.
From full Colt Custom Shops to generic. I don't care for them.
What guns with functions are you talking about with an AR? What do you do with an AR that you normally do more of than this? Are you talking in the realm of shooting or something else with an AR?
I see...so I presume you have plenty of trigger time on wild hog/deer and have killed enough people in tactical/defense?
For me, I often find that I don't do this day in, day out killing game and humans so I like to maintain my trigger time and get more practice. It seems a bit more practical and actually cheaper to do that. I found trigger time is more important than getting something I don't shoot much of.
I think what makes it look especially "trick" is the proportion of the barrel (which NEARLY makes it look pistol sized) PLUS the similar proportions of the scope. It makes it look almost like a "govt. special ops" gun--because it looks almost like something you COULDN'T buy in the commercial market...like all the parts are "shrunk" in some way beyond merely a custom gun.
At a glance it would also be easy to convince yourself that it had a full-barrel-length suppressor.
Ah! I thought about that, too. Yeah, wow, now I notice your arms: you're not an achondroplastic dwarf, are you? (please don't take offense if you are!)
Sometimes, it's about giving the best you can at a given time. Not always necessary to be the most expensive..but if you are going to do something, do it well I'd say! Thanks for the nice comment!
This is a .22lr rimfire. I don't have 5000...I have much less...but yet a few....This one was just a teaser..it might be deleted so comment on the new one if necessary..
