I always place traps in the attic. Loads of sucess. My preferred bait (aka secret weapon is PEANUT BUTTER) I also try to always keep the traps 90 degrees to a wall because the mouse feels safer; until he comes upon the TRAP !!!!!!!! Fall 2011 totals so far: 3 dead mice

try putting the trap along the wall, because mice and rats walk more cormfortably around those areas, and will run over traps and accidently set them off
