  • when it comes to the market? I dream about the real folding bicycle to put it into my backpack :)

  • Why would you need a folding wheel?

  • @KungFuChess cuts down the shipping cost a lot

  • "Dude your tire's flat... literally."

  • ah....some people got to much time!!!

  • dumb as hell

  • And now it goes "CLACK" and the wheel folds up at high speed

    lol

  • what is the point? seriously it really wont be something im looking for when buying a bike. if i walk into a bike store the one question that wont be on my tongue is: "can the wheels fold up?"

  • Oh, yeah, for ALL THOSE TIMES I ship a bike somewehre. LOL.

  • I can't help but to imagine it folding up around a high speed corner. Ha ha

  • this is retarted

  • Do you want to see THE WORLD'S SIMPLEST TRANSMISSION for Bicycle?

Watch: UNIQUE BIKE CRANK ( 2- SPEED)

  • that could be the start of something much better.

  • pretty dang cool actually. Combine a couple of these wheels with a folding/collapsing bike frame, and you have a whole package that is easily carried into elevators, stored in storage buildings/garages or easier to stick in the back seat of a car.

  • unuseful shit

  • words that spring to mind about this 'wheel'; heavy, weak, expensive, un-truable (after buckling), ugly, impracticable, untrustworthy.

  • lulnubz!

idea of folding wheel is for easy transportation eg. on bus...

are you so dumb really that can't understand?

  • and the point is....??

  • why folding bicycle wheel

  • It could be used to prevent theft. If the thief got through the chain some how.

  • why?

  • As an engineering project its interesting. Sadly I think it has no practical value when we have things like Bromptons already.

  • It could make a nice spare tire for long bike treks.

  • Dumbest idea evver invented..........dead set took an iddiot to think of a folding wheel on a bike would be a good idea, with the speed & simplicity of quick release hubs & the safty of a wheel not collapsing congrats you win 1st place in the The Biggest Try Hard Dickhead Award for the year

  • You just Won It.

  • if youve ever tried to ship a bike, or travel with a bike on today's airlines, its very difficult to box up a fullsized efficient bike in a shippable container... the wheels are the main reason for this.

  • I noticed that the biker didn't bike so fast. Maybe he himself doesn't trust the invention....

  • Hmmm...I would hate for this wheel to fold as I land a jump. :D

  • is not much as folding as it collapsing... :)but great idea though

  • nice. keep it up

  • Can you lock it in the folded position?

  • hahah solidworks?very good program , i design all things in that!...

  • OK. now someone design a tire that doesn't need air and has the ride comfort of a inflate able tire. Seriously...

  • They hve allready but cost more so no one is bothered.

  • who's designed such a tyre?

  • I think its nice desing but I would not go downhill with that!!!

  • *design*

  • no application???

do you fools not know about folding bikes or what?

the single item that defines how small a suitcase you can pack the bike into is wheel size! this innovation will mean we can have full sized bikes fit into airline-legal suitcases. silly people

  • It's funny that so many people are like, "WTF?" I can think of many ways I could use this like if I lock my bike to a bike rack on the sidewalk.

Walk along a sidewalk in Chicago and you're sure to see wheels bent from a car swiping them. It's not the biker's fault when the racks are too close to the street, but with a wheel like this...

  • Nice construction, but as someone pointed out - the benefit is close to zero. Not even mentioning the ride on a flat tyre isn't really comfortable

  • Folding bike is not about comfort. It`s the only way to pack 2 bikes into the trunk of a small car. This one will help too.

  • Well, a folding bike is something different than folding wheel. Small folding bikes might not be very comfortable but this wheel must be a real pain to ride. I have ridden a performance bike with very thin tyre inflated to high presure to minimize friction. I could feel every little hole in the road not mentioning pebbles etc. No, you really DON'T want an airless tyre unless you're massochist or something.

  • yeah, maybe on a road bike but not on a downhill mountain bike.

  • yet another innovative invention that doesn't seem to have any benefit. ..

seriously, how much space are you going to save by squishing your wheels?

  • what would cost more the rim or the hospital bill?

  • Storage, I guess, or for that kool 'Dali look'

  • What are the practical applications of this?

  • um? how is this related to the jordin sparks natinoal anthem? this was under related videos so...

  • thats awsome, but... why?

  • yeah, its neat sure. But whats the point, i mean it doesnt really save much space to squish a wheel, and thats a face plant waiting to happen if it breaks open.

  • And the pinch flats as well...

  • can i take it on any sweet jumps?!?!!!

  • Ahaaa.

  • if not.....thats a face plant waitin to happen!

  • useless

  • NO U

  • Crooks nowadays have invented the new technique of carrying the bike away instead of riding it. This wont work for security but would be useful on one of those folding bikes. The biggest problem with those is the size of the tire until now.

  • excellent concept generally I want a bike that folds into my johnny pocket

  • cool, i wonder if there is design for the rear wheel?

  • it would b funny if the wheel folded while he was riding lol. major faceplant!

  • ya i was wating for that to heppen

  • lol. ME TOO!

  • talk about "reinventing the wheel" huh?

    huh?

    huh?

    get it guys?

  • Heck, this would be great for one of the folders. Though I am pessimistic about the ride quality.

  • what's the point? to prevent thiefs?

  • Folding wheel and bike frame you can take public transportation greatly expanding your range allow compact storage in a car or on a bus, train, taxi. My Kent folding bike is taken with me on the road in a big truck I can get to places where trucks are not allowed affording me the luxury of getting away from truck stop mentality. I'm a college educated modern man not a Neanderthal like people think truckers are. I save time too those warehouses are huge and take 20 min to walk across.

  • what a way to stop people from stealin ur bike, when its in sum bike rack... foldin up when a thief sits on it or sumting.. lol

  • nice invention, i may not apear too applicable here but i am sure it will be useful in other mechanical applications.

  • wats the point of dis......its stupid

  • wow you put in soooo much work into that didnt you? lets hope it was for an assignment or something neccesarry cause otherwise i dont see the point in a folding front wheel? storage, like packing onto a car... but why not just take the wheel off? i think we all would like to know the purpose...?

  • what's the point?

  • nice invention. the only thing i would be terrified about is the wheel folding while i'm riding! lol.

    but this is smart.

  • Can you make voice overs for this vid please?

  • I don't think this is for you or me for that matter its for the average joe who knows little to nothing about cycling. If everyone who crashed because of some manufacturin defect sued there would be exactly zero bicycle com[anies. I don't think a lawsuit would be an issue it would have more to do with the general publics response. Of course it will be a fad that comes and goes but appreciate the engineering and wait for the sow-up tires to peel off.

  • Great stuff, once you get it properly machined and made of bad ass alloy, it will stay tru to it's original shape and wont wobble. People all over the world to save time and space on shipping, traveling and many more situations, hope you got the pattents lol

  • thats a very good idea, it prevents theft! pull the pin out so it folds up, but the thief dosnt have the pin so they cant amke it into a wheel again!

  • Excuse him for a second while he shines his ass before he bends over backwards for you.

Seriously...calm the heck down, it's only an invention..

  • and what have you invented lately?

  • Nah, you misread my comment, I was commenting on some other guy who was bitching that this is a terrible idea and how he spend $8000(way to much) on a bicycle. It was like this invention hurt his feelings or something.

  • you ever try to stuff a bike in a trunk? that's why you fold it.

  • oh man, this will be big! (please do a 28'' version too)

  • dont get the point of it. clever tho.

  • When ur done riding, u take out the pin and fold the wheel up. It locks in that position and to get it out of that way you put the pin back in. A theif wouldn't have the pin so he couldn't unfold it .

  • I'm guessing it's some sort of anti-theft function

  • Great... but why would you fold it?

  • y would u fold it???

  • The design and execution are wonderful, but,

    does it have a purpose?

  • Cool idea I guess, but I do not quite get the purpose of it. No way it could be very strong either, at least in comparison with a proper wheel.

  • thats a nice bike... ever take it of any sweet jumps?

  • dynamite comment, man.

  • what next ... folding lawnchairs?!

  • LOL talk about the future man!!

  • You fold the wheel, put it up against a tree, and no one will care to steal a bike with a busted wheel. Sheer ingenuity.

  • its so you can carry the wheel with you more conveniently

  • seems more like an added danger than anything... pretty lame use of brain if I do say so myself.

  • no point ftw

  • would suck if it did a fold job while you were riding!

  • You still have to chain the bike to a post, but the wheel will be folded!

  • Does this serve a purpose?

  • be great to have a bike that would fold up into a backpack. Otherwise this is a waste of time.

  • yea that wud b sweet to make folding bike that fits in backpack it have to b light tho

  • It's a cool idea but I would've been really impressed if you were to fold the whole bicycle up and put it in your backpack. Good invention nonetheless. Gotta give where respect is due. 4 star

  • what the fuck? who needs a shittty little hohmosexual bendy wheel

  • what the fuck is the point of that??

  • what the hell is its function?

  • this is boring...

  • i thought this was a video about someone eating shit and crashing

  • why would somebody need that

  • If the frame on someone's wheel got messed up they could just unfold a new wheel for a quick replacement until they could get a new wheel. Think of it as a spare tire.

  • thats gay

  • whats the point of the wheel

  • yeah thats awesome. But why would you want it. YES i have a bike wheel to fold in half. Im going to tell all my friends.

  • yes it's a great idea but this is just going to raise the number of bycicle accidents, go down some stairs with that bike it would break and you would fall to your face

  • most people dont ride bicycles down stairs

  • Folding bikes are for joe public. You know the old guy who has it on his boat.

  • Smart

  • how about a ...bike with donuts as wheels i mean, taste good, and exercise at the same time.

  • Do I see an informercial on the horizon?

  • A high tech wheel on a beater bike - love it!

  • wow something that is not needed these days or ever! xD

  • actually this guy will make a fortune off of those folding bike companies, it is actually a huge industry is some parts of the world

i myself think a folding bike is stupid but hey, he invented something he can make money off all you have probably made in your lifetime is piles of fecies and useless comments

  • Well money comes from customers, only the inventors mother would buy 2 just to make him feel better... Jog On

  • wthf are you completely stupid? he isnt going to go around seling the wheels singly he is going to patent the idea so anyone who wants to use it must pay him.

You need to educate yourself a bit more about whats going on in the rest of the world and see how many folding bikes are around asia

and as i said,i fail to see anything you have invented so your argument is most likely simply out of spite

  • Its Crap get over it

  • wow you sure raised alot of great points... at least you tried though

your discussion abilities can be compared to a small rodent

  • Who says you can re-invent the wheel?

  • go to the site,

its for a fold up bike to make it smaller,

because they always had to have small wheels, which sucks

  • Mate, if you're trying to sell this I hope you already have your patent application in, otherwise you just screwed your novelty

  • JUMP A RAMP

  • And the practicality comes in....?

  • gute idee!!!

  • gute idee...? wozu ist das gut? ein rad den man zusammenklappen kann! pff

  • geil gemacht

  • haha stupid, that would fall apart the first few secs of me riding it!

  • It don't understand how this could possibly have any benifits

  • I appreciate the idea but that thing looks hairy, has no tire and doesn't quite look round. The strength of the wheel is suspect. While there is hope for the idea it needs a lot of work and a back wheel.

  • snzzzz

  • Another useless invention.

  • Unless you live in the city where even if you chain your bike up they will steal the wheel and seat and handlebars.

  • The French have the best idea. They have thousands of bikes parked outside different areas of the city and you rent them and then park them to the next destination.

  • Lots of cities have adopted that system, Barcelona included. And it originated in Amsterdam, so it's hardly an idea attributable to the French

  • that's an interesting idea

  • So now they steal a folding wheel and seat and handlebars.

  • True.. Even travelers aren't interested in such a wheel.

  • get 2 of those babys

  • No, Wait, it's a good idea, for people who have to put the bike in the car to get to the mountain for a nice downhill session.

Oh wait... Oh yeah, i forgot, we can take the wheels off so it'll fit in the car.

    Hummmmm

Give me a pair of Deemaxs any day! oh wait, I have some....

    Sweet! Let's ride!

  • well, i was expecting some guy to like.. eat shit from falling off his bike, and like have his wheel fold in half from hitting the ground with his front wheel so hard.. so this was a let down

  • didn't anyone think that it could be a Spare wheel.... instead of getting a flat and walk besides your bike you unfold the wheel install it in a few seconds and you are off again...

  • wow. the usa kicks ass in inventions.

  • Japanese would do it better, plus they'd make it look nice.

  • agreed

  • Its a British invention. Click the link. London Royal College of Art.

  • uhh,thats not usa

  • I gave it 4 stars for the comments.lol

  • lol whats the point i mean it helps with storage a little but not much i mean i wouldent want to ride that thing if it somehow folded while u were riding lmao u would be FUCKED!!

  • um what's the point of this invention

  • Great idea.. One minute you're riding along enjoying the park, then the next minute you're sitting in a motorized wheel chair talking through one of those computer programs..

I've seen it a million times.

  • wow, u have seen a lot of unlucky people.

  • I hope he graduates to folding up car wheels!

  • what purpose does that serve?

  • yo creo q no sirbe

  • NoFear0202: The point of a folding wheel is to put it on a FOLDING BIKE. The big issue with folding bikes is that you can't reduce the size the wheels take. This solves that problem.

It's a neat design, but it's clearly still a prototype. Very clever. Congratulations to the inventor.

  • And the purpose is????? other than making it look like Stewie's head.

  • hahah - Heck that may be Stewie's head - or his whole family circle?

  • If you can lock it in the collapsed position, then there would be no need to take off the front wheel to prevent someone from stealing it.

I think its actually a smart idea.

  • they can still pick up the bike then take off the wheel lol

  • Now that is an awesome idea, stop people stealing the bike!!!!!!! deffo needed in London... wonders what the ride is like but hey i see it has suspension on the front too so should be good!

  • Except for the fact, they would just bring a replacement bolt, so they could steal it anyway.

  • I'd be afraid that wheel would collaspe as i was riding the bike.

  • useless why would you need your bike tire to fold

  • I dont trust on that tires!

  • What's the point?

  • Interesting. Cool design no doubt, but I wonder how much shock that tire absorbs. Seems like it could be a pretty rough ride.
