  • On my Amiga Copy (500+) it filled up the whole screen, rather than have some mechanic masturbating in the bottom half!

  • Watching your channel I now realise where half my childhood went!!!! LOL

  • Every game that uses the engine from this is pure gold.

  • love the way the sounds are the same in Super Cars II

  • Ha yes was thinking the excatly the same thing as you... Them cars look like Escort XR3i's!! Should of been called Escort XR3i Boyracer challenge! Would of kept them all off the streets in 1990.

  • This game is awesome in 2-player mode. I used to play it a lot with my friends back in the early 90s - and it delivered intense races. Magnetic Fields were such an excellent developer.

  • I'm really impressed by this one. Not too sure why they waste half the screen on the shot of the garage, but whatever. I really had no idea the Amiga was this sort of game machine. Then again, we didn't get a home computer until '94.

  • @lettersfromtheleft The Amiga was streets ahead of everything else on the market for several years, and not just for games.

If Commodore hadn't been so short sighted and had invested in continued development of the machine, computing and gaming today would be very different.

  • @lettersfromtheleft

If you play the game with 2 players, the second player would play on the screen part with the "shot of the garage" :) And it is a great game to play it with a friend :)

  • @headbangersworld Ahhh, that makes sense.

  • @lettersfromtheleft

If you play the game together with a friend, the second player would play on the screen part with the "shot of the garage" :) And this is a great game to play it with a friend.

  • MF... Isn't it Magnetic Field? Wasn't that the developers name?

  • @THOMASSU63 Yes, it was :)

  • 06:41 "5TH AYRTON SENDUP" - I love that!

    Fantastic game!

  • Love it. Great racing game Steve :)

  • This game has SOOO got to be made by the same people that made Supercars II! The style of text, the fake names for racing drivers, even the music/SFX is VERY similar in places!

Perhaps we shall be seeing that game soon, seeing as we're currently in a racing mini-series? ;)

You broke the 4th wall in this video too. :P

Great game + cool commentary = SENSATIONAL SWILL!!! :D

  • I'm glad to get it working for you on your 1200. Thats if it is the 1200 you are playing it on.

  • Its not a Walk through, Play through, Review or anything like that, its a Pub guide and Geography lesson lol. I did like this back in the day but the split screen bugged me, something Lotus II sorted out. Great vid again Steve.

  • Extra kudos for anyone, who can name all of the real name of the drivers their intimating here.

  • when playing this on the Atari ST, back in 1991/2. I always thought to myself "See, USGold, THIS is how you should've made OutRun!"

  • You cant refule if you do not stop! :P Same as in the PUB. You can not get a lager if you do not stand still for a moment! ;)

  • Ah happy days. I put so many hours into this game. I used to pity my second player who would end up using the mouse to play!

'MF' stands for Magnetic Fields, who were the developer of this game and Supercars too. Great series of games, and always had Big Country song titles as cheat codes. I wonder where they are now?

  • *wins race* - "really?" haha classic! and you were talking the whole time too, which you usually have a hard time doing with racing games. i think this is your game steve

  • I've got the Lotus Trilogy disc for my CD32, I noticed last time I played it that in all the games all the rival cars are programmed to 'bounce' from one side of the track to the other at varying speeds, so no AI as such!

XJ220 on the MegaCD was made to fully utilise sprite scaling, I think everything was scaled, as opposed to the Amiga version which like Lotus uses frames, but is a faster game on Amiga possibly for this reason.

    Cheers Steve!

  • you where on the right pit lane, but you had to come to a complete stop on that lane :-D

  • ahhh, this brings back so much nice moments. this indeed is a classic! the amiga had some proper racing games. all the lotus games are good, but this one started it all. the only thing i find a pitty is that even in single player mode you play in split screen, only to look at a pit crew who is "working" on your car ;-) hahahaha.

  • Looks good. Pretty much the same song is in Top Gear for the SNES... I think the same people made both games, though. Still, it's interesting that they just reused music. Top Gear is a great game too though, and this also looks good, so oh well.

  • What the hell is that guy on the bottom screen at the back of the car doing??? O.O

  • @ScrewAttackEurope Well, notice he doesn't appear in Lotus Turbo II. I suspect they sacked him for contaminating the fuel.

That, or there are a lot of little baby Lotus's running around somewhere.

    Would that be Loti?

  • @SteveBenway I think you have to stop completely to enter the pits. Thats the only thing really useful about the auto version of the gears you can press down to slow to non moving easier. It takes a manual gear master to master pit stopping with manual gears. lol.

  • I don't mean to be perverse but what is the guy in the pitsstop doing? The guy on the right? He's been doing that for like 10 minutes

  • @fakeplasticball He loves his Lotus very very much ;)

  • @fakeplasticball Those guys like the way Steve plays the game lol!

  • @fakeplasticball Haha, I always find that guy very disturbing. I love how they look like 1950s working class northern stereotypes. Great game. Gremlin were based in Carver St in Sheffield - I walk pat it all the time and this game always springs to mind (albeit the Mega Drive version).

  • This does look very good, loving the names too. Nijel Mainsail is genius!

  • I really do like this game, but have more of a passion for Lotus II. Agree? Disagree?

  • @a3HeadedMonkey I don't know, to be honest. I'll maybe come to a conclusion on that when I record the Lotus II video tomorrow :)

  • @SteveBenway Oooh! Sneak preview! Exciting! lol

  • In one of the Megadrive games, there's usually an indicator at the top of the screen to tell you where you can pit. I can only assume here that you stop by the signs with the spanners, but how obvious is that?

    Great video, Steve.

  • loved it on my amiga 500

  • Is that mechanic tugging one off into the fuel pipe? Or scratching his knackers?

  • @Xyphoe Hahaha! I don't know, but it certainly looks dodgy :D

  • I guess you just have to stop at the pit-stop area to get refueled.

  • @DocHackenbush Yes, I watched another video to see what to do. I guess stopping makes sense, but I didn't think of it in the heat of the moment. LOL :D

  • I love this game, I remember beating all my friends on it back in the day, I need to did my Amiga out and have a play.

  • Great game one of my faves on the Amiga only bettered by lotus 2. I agree these are both streets ahead of xj220. Steve are you going to r3play at norbeck castle hotel in Blackpool for the retro exhibition???

  • @Tudave I wish I was going to r3play, but sadly can't afford it. Pity, coz I love the Norbreck Castle. It's my fave hotel in Blackpool.

  • Hey glad to see you got this working !! I love Lotus..er... Massey Ferguson Turbo tractor challenge !! ;)

I love this game. I forgot you could customise the controls on this one and you can use the fire button for forward in this. Quite a good feature !

Its been a while since I've played this, Seems to run so smooth on your Amiga !

I think in Lotus 3 you could change the tune on the radio before you started the track ? :D

  • @zombieAndy1979 You can change the tune on this, so I'd imagine you can on 2 and 3 too :)

  • Now that's more like it. This is so much better than Jaguar XJ220. I had all of these game on my Amiga and loved them. Nice wide tracks, you could configure the controls to use the fire button for accelerate and the speed, sprite scaling and player car graphics are fantastic. At least here you are mixing it up with the other racers and not going out for a lonely Sunday drive like XJ220. Good impression of speed as well. Loved the mechanics working on the Lotus below. These were good on the MG to

  • Very smooth scaling graphics. Impressive Amiga hardware.
