This should've been the last special Eclipse made, not that piece of crap "SE Eclipse" they gave us that couldn't even have the V6 engine option. I'm just glad someone had their head on right over there to put the 4g63 and AWD drivetrain back in it. I'm really sad this was never made.
the eclipse isnt dead they just changed the name back in 2010. its now called the "Hyndai Genesis Coupe" hahaha same relationship to the lancer evolution as the 1g, 2g eclipse; its a coupe, and comes in the same 2.0L turbo as the evo x! :)

In fact, if you boost the 4G64 with a stock GS-T turbo, it'll make more power than the GS-T it came from since the engine is stroked to 2.4L. There's also a false belief out there that it's "overweight" - the 4-cylinder weighs in at 2822 lbs, 50 lbs lighter than the 2G Eclipse RS and GS. Don't know who started that rumor.
@RodrigoDiezBivar I don't know what you're smoking but the 4 cylinder 3g is heavier than the non turbo 2g's. The 3g curb weight is 2,965 lbs whereas the 2g is lighter at 2,767 lbs. And that is for both generations GS. The 2g FWD turbo weighs 2,970 lbs and the 2g AWD turbo weighs 3,142 lbs the same as the 3g v6. Also the 4G64 isn't built for turbo and you can't expect it to make more power than the 4g63. The 2.4L is SOHC and the only thing it will make more of is torque.
@Bakusaiga66 The curb weight of MY '01 GS stock with no driver was 2,820, I know that for a fact, the curb weight of the GS-T is 2,877. Given the cam duration and lift of a SOHC and DOHC is the same, you actually won't see any difference; typically SOHC motors have half as many valves, but that isn't the case with the 4G64. Not mentioning parasitic drag of a second cam. It's no 4G63, sure, but I have never seen a 4G64 that can't handle 15-17psi easily. I'm just going off of personal experience.

Only advantage of SOHC is great torque at low rpm's.

I was thinking the same thing. They should have left the V6 in and made it all wheel drive. I get tired of the car companies playing politics with their cars. Mitsubishi have a perfectly good state of the art V6 and no real application and the 4b11 is in the evo X. So in either case they made damn sure that eclipse is the evo's sloppy seconds and they have nothing to compete in the high end game.

They are sedan and not coupe, therefore not a sports car, imo. They are going to go green soon, just like most Japanese automakers will. Muscles on the other hand have been getting better, lighter and can turn in tight corners, not just made for drag race anymore. Mitsu had it with the 2g Eclipse GSX n F-it up with the 3g, 4g.

It was because of the 4g63t engine, the legendary engine that helped Mitsubishi won most of the Rally race. Just replace the header, flash ECU, exhaust, intake, fuel injector, bov etc boost it up to 16g and you have a mean car. Granted the GSX was unreliable, but to me that's not a problem.

fuck the v6, it's not meant for a turbo, they used the 4g63 because it's properly balanced... just don't get your hopes up since ralliart is suspending it's production... i'm disappointed as well :( but for 70,000 you could build one :)

@DSMDarkKnight Ummm, This is why we have engineers... A twin turboed V6 weights less than a V8. Like that of the Gtrs.. And puts out a lot more power... ALSO, it costs less.. soo why not a V6 again?

@Cloudstrife1188 yes, you certainly could do that, but they never would put the twin turbos in as stock, so you would just end up with a v6 which would cost less, but would have alot less torque as well as not give you that monsterous sound a v8 offers. So put in a v8, buy it, twin turbo it, and you got one hell of a car.

@UMCxH4CKZ0RS the R32 just happens to be a 2.6L straight six where the hell have you heard of a 7.5 liter V12?! the R33 is also a 2.6 straight six (the nismo version is a 2.8 straight 6) and the R34 is also a 2.6 straight six and the new one is a 3.8 V6 all these gtr's are 6 cylinder all are twin turbo and nissan never did a V12 GTR

@Cloudstrife1188 I drive a Silver 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse Gsx. DSM for life. These eclipses look like shit and are an insult to the name. I run circles around these overstuffed galants. The real eclipses only existed from 1989 to 1999.

@bruin13 Ok, good. you own a GSX. I run High 10's with my 4G eclipse GT. I'l bet you anything it sounds better, looks better, brakes better, handels better, than the GSX. Just because these eclipses are 500 pounds more, does NOT mean that its speed will be affected. you forget what a V6 is capable of? Even stock. I've got 429 BHP on mine, Ripp Superchargers Stage 2 and a shitload of bolt ons.
