giacomini really is unique in many ways; the voice itself is a veritalble force of nature, matched by deep sensitivity, rare intelligence and natural musicality. i cant say why he never "made it" like the big 3 (if that was ever his goal). i can only look on at a present generation which thinks that paul potts and andrea bocelli are "opera" and wonder. you would be surprised at how many comments ive seen (not here, thankfully) with words like artificialy darkened,ugly,ingolata.bariton­e,etc???

Ottimo Giacomini,concordo con chi ha detto che è l'ultimo vero tenore drammatico e secondo me l'ultimo(allo stato) Chenier credibile, dopo Mario Del Monaco (prima maniera) e Franco Corelli.E' anche vero che non è stato apprezzato nella maniera giusta,ma si sa lui era anti-divo per eccellenza(non aveva affatto la " testa da tenore ") e poi non era supportato dallo star system

Beaucoup de très bonnes choses,à commencer par ce timbre d'une rare épaisseur,mais aussi une assez belle sensibilité,un peu tonitruante,mais riche et expressive.Le dernier des dinosaures!!(Je parle bien sûr de sa masse vocale...)

Giacomini è un baritono con gli acuti ,nfatti si sente indubbiamente il peso della sua voce nelle registrazioni ...... Giacomini spesso però non riusciva a controllare la sua emotività e le recite rendevano la metà della sua qualità effettiva,a mio avviso controllare una voce così pesante nella zona acuta richiede una tecnica impeccabile...... giacomini rimane uno dei più grandi tenori

@peppelyrics : più ascolto Giacomini e più mi rendo conto che del baritono non aveva nulla. Non è il timbro della voce ciò a cui bisogna fare riferimento per classficare un cantante. Bergonzi aveva voce molto più chiara di Giacomini ma era molto più baritono di Giacomini. Chi ha un si bemolle e un si naturale come quelli di Giacomini non può essere considerato un baritono, nella maniera più assoluta. Senza la minima ombra di dubbio il più grande tenore vivente. Saluti, con il massimo rispetto.

It is absolutely fantastic sound! It reminds me a little bit of Josef Shore, but Giacomini is in tune, Shore is not always...I still think Shore would have been a better tenor than a baritone

This is the type of tenor voice I expect to hear as Chenier (or Canio or Otello). Besides occaional lapses in pitch, Giacomini matches Del Monaco in this role. Bravo!

Absolutely. I heard him in the Verdi Requiem in Malta about ten years ago and was blown over. In this aria I would certainly rate him as the best ever. So why did he not enjoy the mass appeal/success, of Pavarotti or Domingo, whom he more than matches? And so few recordings!!

True dramatic voices like his are a challenge to everyone. With Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras in tight with the recording companies they had his repertoire covered with singers they did not need to promote. On stage, his short nearsightedness made him seem stiff. So a bit of his animal magnetism was squandered. He was the greatest Tenor di Forza of his moment. Directors did not like the stiffness and conductors did not want to just accompany and without them, a career is hard to sustain.

Salut Tita ou plutôt Ruffo puisqu'il avait inversé son nom et prénom...Voix Jeune? Je dirai avec plus de clarté dans l'émission, de soleil dans le timbre; moins empâtée (mais ça c'est l'âge et il n'y peut plus rien), moins "grasse", plus aérée ou aérienne...Mais son interprétation reste "superbe" sans approcher cependant Del Monaco. Amicalement lyrique.
