why do you need to own a permit to own a big ass snake. does that mean you should have a permit to have a horse or a cow or any big animal that could run you over and kick you and kill you. any animal that is bigger then you or stronger then you can kill a kid or anyone. and now they have a law where you can move a big ass snake across state lines. what is this country coming to. down the road this country would be like Cuba your not gonna have rights.

Okay I'll agree to the python ban and all snakes, including boas, balls, corns and what not, but only if you ban Dogs first! How many people are killed by dogs! This is the first incident that a python killed a person and it's not even the snakes fault if the snake was housed properly then the child would still be alive! You know what needs to be done? @armyofone76 It's about responsible ownership. If you respect them (aka feed them properly and handle them properly), there is no issue of them "eating you". This is a result of stupid parents, a snake that was improperly house and most likely not fed properly. Snakes can be great pets for the RIGHT owner. AND the snake did not eat the 2yr old. It most likely smothered it (laid on top of it) trying to find a heat source to keep warm... they are cold blooded..

Now, I have permits for these types of animals for educational purposes. It's entirely about responsible ownership. I cannot tell you how many kids get mauled by dogs (happens constantly) but this is a 'bigger deal' because it's the stereotypical 'snake owner'. It's unfortunate, these animals are not monsters (no more than a dog)

Justice has been served they were convicted, facing 35 years each, 3 charges murder manslaughter and endangerment. Very sad this could have been prevented. Proper cage and none of this would have happened.

It is horrible that the poor kid died but i is not the snskes fault. The owner is responsible for making sure the snake is in a secure cage. From other reports I have seen and read the snake was not being fed properly either and could cause it to be desperate for something to eat. It all comes down to the owner not caring for the snake properly, hope they are charged with murder or manslaughter at least. You cannot persecute snakes, but the owners should be.

There have only been 12 deaths caused by large constricting snakes in 40 plus years of thier history in captivity here in America while Every year 186 people die in the US from dog attacks / bites. Even when snake defend themselves, they bite, not constrict... the parent(s) most likely did it and passed it off as the snake.
