  • All what's in this video is true.

Now, for dirt poor and esp. unemployed people like me, it's not super rosy.

Impossible to buy complementary insurance (too expensive when bought on an individual basis, twice the price as when bought through the employer) and savings to make of course, so bye bye dental care and eyesight correction (the two very badly reimbursed items), one thing wonderful though is a free checkup once in a while from the age of -+ 45 on in a dedicated hospital.

  • jeez, they got a doctor on the ems team... you cant tell me that isnt awesome.

  • In Australia, which has somewhat of a similar system, you can wait years for procedures and the waiting times are getting longer. France will completely collapse financially in the next 10 years, and with it the health care system. You won't want to be in the waiting list then.

  • @BBBradH and the funny part about this is that the french still live longer than the americans...

but thats not the issue at hand, the issue is that you say you can wait years for procedures for treatment or you can pay out of pocket and get it checked out by a private doctor. do they have an opt out program ?

  • No wonder France is filled with bludgers.

  • I think the the french Health Care system has the perfect combination of Freedom of Choice between private and public Health Insurers. As well as access and affordability.

  • French´s health care system has 12 - 14 Billion Euro deficit?!!?!

I hope Not in this country!!!

  • @Mamakayi The total debt is $53 Trillion dollars for medicare. The total debt for medicaid totaling all states is 15.4 billion dollars.

Obviusly our system and the french system needs to be fixed. The french system needs to increase higher taxes so they wont have a deficit and american... well... that depends on what we want to do with the 50 million people who are uninsured... Funny thing is, 50 million people aren't getting taken care of and yet we still run a deficit lmao.

  • @Mamakayi It has that much deficit for two reasons: medical equipment of course, and the fact that the whole Europe (and sometimes people from Africa) comes to France to be treated. France is too nice for its own good, that's my opinion.

  • The french governement don't want to pay well the doctors in hospitals. Doctors from third world works on at the hospital. This is easy to say : 22 Euros ! How many money did you give every month ? Hu ? give me my money back 25 % and i agree to pay more the consultation.

  • The french health care is on bankrupcy ! The deficit is huge ! Every month you have to pay 25 % of your income for public insurances ! ( and you have to pay income taxes ) The V. A . T taxes is 19,6 % for about every thing ! This system is a shittty communist system. The public hospital are dirty and infections are fequently.

  • Fake French...

Do you really live in France?

    XD

  • I like the French system, but the Doctors should have control on what to charge, as long as they are submit to the FREE MARKET rules.

In the US, the AMA (American Medical Association) is almost a cartel.

  • The French doctors can charge whatever they want, but the Social Security will only refund the "conventional price". The only things very bad in the French system is, as all the French knows : teeths and eyes... You must have (about 95% of the French) a "complementatry insurance" to cover those cost. The "complementary insurance" are not expensive because they cannot make profits. They are mutuals. You have good mutuals and bad ones, who cover only small parts of teeths and eyes cost.

  • You really don't understand how The Free Market works do you?

Doctors who run private clinics have to charge a reasonable price to meet the supply and demand. They cannot overcharge, they will not receive any customers/patients.

  • @elderdruid44 They CAN overcharge!!! About 30% of the french doctors overcharge, but the "complémentaire", a private insurance, pay for that. Almost every french have a "complémentaire" insurance. If you have no revenues, you have a free "complémentaire".

  • France is shit

  • And you must be American. Pleased to meet you !

  • I will translate my response into your vernacular: Da dddd da dddd da da ddddd dada daaaaaaaa da dddd da dddaaaaa da dddd da da dddd da da da dddddd da da da da ddddddd da daaaaaa da dddddddd da da da da dddddddd da da da da ddddddd da da da da da dddddddd da da da ddddddd da da ddddddddd da da da da da da da da da da da ddddddddddd da ddddd da da da da da da da da da ddddddddd ddddddddddddddddd daaaaaaa ddddd daaaaa dddddd da ddddda da da ddddddd da da da da ddddddddd daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa dd

  • In addition, I think it's disgusting that the richest nation on the planet would allow ANY decent, law abiding citizen to lose their home or life savings because of an unexpected illness. Sick people need stress taken off of them, not more added- My fellow Americans disgust me with their piggish ways and greed sometimes.

  • Yes to me the French system is worth all the deficit problems it causes. People DO pay for it, everyone has to give a part of their salary to social security. Some complain about it but to me that's just basic solidarity, and in way, that's what being civilised is about. Even for someone who is a capitalist, you cannot talk about "equality of opportunity" if people who are sick have to bear a huge financial burden for something they generally can't help (being sick).

  • The French system makes SO much more sense than the USA's. In particular, I think the idea of a "traveling ER" with a doctor along for the ride is an A+ idea-- One of the biggest problems we have in America is unnecessary ER visits...But then again, probably half of those are due to the fact that's the only healthcare access indigent people have.

  • im telling u this video is just propaganda to make believe americans that universal health care is evil. if u go to the doctor u do pay 20euros (if u have money if u dont u dont pay) and when u pay u get it back 2 weeks later. what they say about france in the movie sicko is true ! and our doctors do earn good money and i hope america will have that one day when i watch sicko i was choked and cried for hours. the governement let people die for them to make money its not human

  • I didn't see that as propaganda, I thought it gave a rather postive vision of our healthcare system.

What it does not do, though, is question the idea that French people really speak bad English :D

  • @frenchy4001

You said: "when i watch sicko i was choked and cried for hours"

You really cried because the health system in USA is shit??????

    XD
