I used to use a combination of black circle brushes of different sizes to get the shape. Then use the circle eraser for other parts. Very tedious and not very efficient.
Now I just used the pen tool and draw a vector shape. Way too complicated to explain. Sorry man.
I`m not surprised that this task is so arduous, you`re instruments reflect a desire for perfection...and why not, it`s you`re name on the headstock! I`ve been saving to hopefully one day own a JC`er.

Where do you get the images for your woods? i've only found about 4 pictures that are useful, and cannot find a decent ebony

Most of the pictures I take myself of wood I own. Other than that it is pretty hard to find decent pictures of wood. Google is all I can say.
