@gowdaflow with a full mag and a wood stock its a bit hefty. The synthetic stock and slightly shortened barrel make it a bit lighter. The socom II is super heavy since it has a quad rail on the front of it.

I have one of these, and I was just wondering what type and make of ammo you were shooting in the video? I ask because there are some types of ammunition you should not use in the Springfield M-1A. Thanks in advance.

@billt460 7.62x51mm ammo. Shoot NATO military spec. Springfield actually says in it's brochure the warranty will be voided if you shoot .308. The only main difference between the .308 and 7.62x51mm NATO is the .308 has high pressures and will beat up your gun a bit more long term.

@mrolivier718 Civilian version because you can't fire it in full auto is my guess. Was just at the gun store handing a Socom 16 today, I was pretty impressed. And to think I was considering a Ruger Mini-30 before I looked at Springfield.

@mrolivier718 Yes its the SOCOM version, basically just a shorter barrel, tuned gas system for the shorter barrel and a forward mounted Picatinny rail on top. The only difference between a M1A and a M14 is the M1A has no selector switch as it is only semi automatic.. The M14 has a selector switch to go between full auto and semi. The M1A was made for states that dont allow machine guns or full automatic rifles. This gun is sweet ass by the way I know I own one...

Basically the exact same rifle but with a shorter barrel, and recoil compensator for CQB. Still very accurate over long distances though, perfect battle rifle in my opinion.

@KHSRugger @MichaelBarnes The M1A (Garand) was the first rifle the US Army had which was semi-auto rather than bolt action. It was made before the M14. The M14 was an updated version with a removable 20 round magazine vs the 8 round auto-ejecting mags from the Garand as well as a longer barrel, 7.62x51mm bullet chamber instead of the .30-06 from the Garand and selective semi and fully automatic fire modes.

thats not a M1A1 carbine, thats an M1A Garand rifle. its the ancestor of the M1A1 i think, and was used in the seconed world war, and also in the korean.

The M1 Garand came before the M1A1 Carbine. The Carbine shows up at the end of the war. My bad people, I didn't notice that the gun didn't carry a magazine under it, thus ruling it out as an M1A1.
