@TheForeignMan thats called a pinch harmonic, you gotta dig in to the string where as the side of your thumb just barely touches the string just as you pick it. ( in this case you thumb has to be barely hanging off the pick) and it should make a "squeely" best places to do this on is the low e string, and A string, our the 3rd to 5th frets. as you progress, it will be easier to go on higher strings like the G string and higher up frets such as the 8th or even 12th. practice practice practice!

@MegaTROLLTROLLTROLL you can squeal on any string if you can coordinate it. its just that the higher strings you have to touch even more lightly, and the lowest string you have to really smash (i play in Drop A). you can also squeal on any fret, you just have to judge where your thumb needs to touch in accordance.. there's actually multiple places to squeal on one specific string/fret to get different pitches/sounds but youtube isnt giving me enough characters to explain further.....

The thing that kicks ass about Paul Gilbert is his technique. Not just his playing technique which is second to none by the way, but his TEACHING technique. I watched Paul's videos closely back in the day to hone my chops. But when I started teaching guitar myself, I went back to his videos for a different reason. To learn his teaching techniques because I remember how he made the impossible seem possible. He actually simplifies things to make hard stuff achievable. Excellent teacher!
