This should be in the key of G... not sure if you are playing in the wrong key on purpose...

Most likely, yes.
Many bassiste do that to make it more playable on bass. Double stops with open strings can be a problem too, as they're tuned differently.

I wasn't purposely playing it in that key. I was playing it normal, but my bass just happened to be solo tuned so everything is a step higher.
