The pickup tube was too long. It was 15mm from the bottom but the screen base is 8mm from the bottom... leaving only 7mm clearance. Also, the screens have a sort of slotted window on the sides that was further reducing flow. Man I'm glad it was something stupid... I was totally sweating it, thought I was gonna have to pull it apart again and check out the main bearings.
