  • This should be played at the beginning of each UN session and the Secretary General should get it emailed to each political and religious leader in the world so they can ponder on the effects of their decisions and actions.

  • wonderfull just wonderfull thank you for this thought-provoking momend

  • It's nice to see this without all the silly movie clips.

  • Of all the remixes for Pale Blue Dot, I love this one the most because it maintains the image of Earth at the vantage point from which Carl Sagan was inspired to write. Simplistically brilliant!

  • THIS is why youtube exists. (for me at least)

  • I was shown this last night in my lecture, but the images were different... It was Carls voice, the pic of the pale blue dot - but also had a fly by of going outwards from us to the edge of the universe... Does anyone know where I can find that clip - it was amazing and together with Carls words made it more powerful of just how tiny and some what 'unimportant' we actually are...

  • @JAZZYCHAR Try this one /watch?v=4PN5JJDh78I&feature=related

    I suspect it's what you're looking for.

  • Carl sagan changed alot of peoples lives he was a perfect example of how people should think. Whats so sad is the fact that every single version of pale blue dot combined amount of views are dwarfed by one justin beiber video or some other stupid video of babies doing something stupid its a sad fact the the majority of people cant comprehend the message that sagan was trying to show to the world and it is simply more beautiful then any crap that could ever be put on youtube.

  • When I see this, I can but cry. R.I.P. Carl Sagan, and may we one day all be as wise as you.

  • This man is someone that all the Earth should look up to and try to be a little more like. Truely my greatest hero.

  • Picture taken by Voyager 1. 4.000.000.000 miles away .

  • Again, the brilliant sound of Vangelis, (Heaven and Hell album), accompanies Sagans warm voice. I wish Brian Cox and the BBC would remake "Cosmos". A wonderful, incredible subject.

  • @The2001002 Your wish nearly comes true in 2013. Neil deGrasse Tyson is hosting the sequel to Cosmos.

  • @Kyargh I didn't know about that. Can't wait for it.

  • Well that just made this politics essay I'm currently doing seem utterly pointless and futile.

  • I love this clip, from a man i never got to know before it was to late. Carl, Happy birthday. i wish you were able to know your legacy is stil going on strong.

  • Seems like a beautiful cat. Happy Burthday Carl.

  • Happy Birthday to Carl, who would have been 77 today...he made a difference on this pale blue dot!

  • Given the fact that Pluto is argued over wether it is a planet or not that makes it roughly the lower boundary for planet mass. Meaning a planet can be as little as 500 or 600 times lighter than the Earth. Given also the fact that several moons in our solar system are planet massed, the fact that low massed planets are thought to outnumber higher mased ones and how many rouge planets there are, it is just possible that planets may outnumber stars by several hundred to one.

  • Why are you bickering? Did you miss the point of the video? Sheesh, only on youtube...

  • so when rappers say their spit is real havnt herd this shit...

  • @GodisTruthseekTruth there are many religions through which God is found. I don't believe that only one of the many religions on this earth is the only way to seek God... different regions of the world have developed different ways of understanding, obeying, and worshiping Him, but none are less valid than another. Once we get into that debate we start warring with another, and atrocities like the current strife in the Middle East occur.

  • @endgamex I'm Christian and I don't fail to appreciate how tiny we are in this universe. God is not crap, and whether you believe or not it's a small courtesy to respect what others believe. After all, in such a vast universe, aren't we far too small to be attacking one another's beliefs?

  • @kctimelady1 lol god

  • @kctimelady1 Caca doodoo poopoo

  • @kctimelady1 I'm not Christian and I agree with the fact that we shouldn't be attacking one another's beliefs. I don't agree with anyone who would come here just saying things like: "BOW TO JESUS! SCIENCE IS THE DEVIL!" Not saying that happened, but that is something I wouldn't put up with. Video here has a good point either way. =)

  • @kctimelady1 The problem isn't the beliefs, it's using those beliefs to justify atrocities. I don't care what you believe, but as soon as it begins to negatively affect my life through discriminatory legislation and blatant willful ignorance of science, I have an issue with it.

  • Occupy what? Occupy this?

    what a waste of time

  • zero dislikes. I like that.

  • There is a little carl sagan in us all. Ive loved sagan ever since i was a kid he made me dream of the beauty of or universe, existance, everything. Pretty much all of the things you are giving up when you just say "God did" it and accept that.

  • @endgamex On the contrary, its lifted up and personified by the Creator of it all...

  • @W3llDunn dont bring that god crap here please

  • @endgamex Couldnt agree more.

  • those words really touched me...

  • I wish more presidents would quote this guy instead of the bible.

  • I posted this vid on my facebook page as my response to 911 fear & terror - it takes people like sagan to give humanity a new perspective on our place in history & the cosmos

  • What's the tune?

  • @TikiPick soundtrack from the cosmos tv show

  • I'm gona try and be a good human being and try and make this world a better place inshallah..

this video is so moving I didn't notice my tears until aftr...

god bless this good man for trying to show us all how we are all going wrong, it mustnt be all about oil and wealth, why all these wars?

in order to survive as a spiecies we must learn to live in peace.

we can start by banning the arms trade.

  • Carl's words of the conflicts people had for a fraction of the dot we call Earth reminded me of Arthur C. Clarke's words:

"It is not easy to see how the more extreme forms of nationalism can long survive when men have seen the Earth in its true perspective as a single small globe against the stars."

Beautiful words, Carl's and Arthur's alike.

  • This should be compulsory viewing for Every politician or would-be leader.

  • Imagine, Humanity, taking it's time to think, come together, and saying...WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING TO EACH OTHER, see that out there, LET'S GO THERE!

  • Life changing.

  • Repulsive power nations knows immense populace ingenuity and progress never progressed out of the sun.

  • The most beautiful thing I've seen in a very very long time. I plan to play it at the beginning and end of every semester

     I teach.

  • @lrosenb You do that :) .

  • @lrosenb Your students are very lucky, i'm absolutely sure you are indeed an awesome teacher.

  • @lrosenb That's a wonderful thing to do. It puts everything into perspective. I think the whole series should be on a permanent loop on the web. That would be a great acknowledgement for what Dr Sagan did in my opinion.

  • @lrosenb Thank you so much for showing this in the classroom. So many students don't even know how to critically think because they've been told all their lives not to do so. I wish there were more teachers like you.

  • @lrosenb

I remember watching this in sixth grade science class. I had forgotten for so many years until I found this video, it all came flooding back. I think it's a wonderful idea.

  • i wish more people would watch this, and then actually ponder it for a while

  • awesome vid and really moving

  • Best version of this on youtube. It really helps you feel what Sagan is trying to convey.

  • With all the editing that has been done to this video, I still think the original is the best, because the images don't do the thinking for you.

  • @esiosan

    I agree. I uploaded a similar video.

  • @JDardme It also illustrates how insignificant the earth is, which was the thesis of the video.
