Beautiful Song!!! --To all of us who have loved and lost someone--Remember--We WILL see them again. It just hurts like hell right now.-- My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
I lost my husband almost 7 years ago, and I had a dream last night that I found him and he was alive and well, not sick anymore, and this song was playing in my dream....I still miss him everyday and I will never be the same without him. I miss you babe, you were my one true soul mate and I will be counting the days till I see you again. Meet me at the gates, my love<3
@Gatormom64 I feel that your husband was telling you that he was alive and well in heaven watching over you. this was one of my uncle's favorite songs and he passed away in september 2011.. he would always play the record and make everybody be quiet and just listen to it. if anybody would talk during the song he would ask them to leave..
Heard a nice version of this song on the radio the other day by a male vocalist. Great version, but can't figure out who it was. Found the song searching for the lyrics only.
In a world filled with the likes of Kim Kardashian, who mock the sanctity of marriage for persona gain and media hype, this song stands for those of us who have committed ourselves wholly and without pause to our life's partners. Only we know that feeling sung here-the deep and never waning warmth you get when your beloved walks thru the door.
I was in hospital for three months and was on life support for 6 weeks. When i woke up all I could think of was this song makes my wife cry every time she hears it.Beautiful song.
I saw her on TV once. I'm not normally a country fan but this song is great. She wrote it about her husband's grandparents. The grandma had dementia and the grandpa took care of her. They both got sick and were admitted to the hospital. Grandma stopped eating and speaking and shut down. Grandpa finally got well enough to come visit her on another floor and she woke right up and asked "Where have you been?" True love means taking care of someone when they are old and frail.
My great grand parents have been gone sice I was 9 and10 years, so a decade has passed and their memory still stays. I remember those two would fight but I knew they loved each other more then anything, when my Papo died she was devistated and wasn't seperated from him for long becaues that following summer she passed on. This song reminds me of them becaues they seemed to hate each other but they would do anything for each other and when they met in heaven they probably did say where you been??
This song always reminds me of my Grandma Betty Louise Blair.... I miss you.... And still no matter what always remember you and everything you've ever done for me and said to me... Best Grandma EVER!!!!!
I always think of my mom when I hear this. My dad was a salesman for years and as mom was older she developed Alzheimers. While her mind was still lucid but we could see her slipping away she heard this song. When the lyrics said, "And she became a salesman's wife" my mom said, "Hey, that sounds like me" and just smiled. She didn't understand the rest of the song and realize that "Claire" suffered the same thing she was going through. Mom's been gone over 15 years. So many memories.
This is such a beautiful song that I had played for my Dad when he passed.. I miss him so much! But I know that he's watching over me just like my Mom and my Brother are doing! The hurt and pain will always be there but i find comforate knowing one day we will be together again..
Always loved this song but when husband was terminally ill when I would pick him up he would always ask me "Where Have U Been".. Love the Song Even More..
Years ago in summer camp, our councelor sang this song to us. I barely remembered it, and was very sad that I didn't. Coming accross it now was so wonderful. It brings back so many memories. Thank you for that. I can only pray for a love like they had in this song.
This is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL Song I have ever heard! I feel it to my toes, Every time I hear it! Kathy Mattea is the only singer who could do this song justice! WOW
I love this song, everytime I hear it, I cry, my mom and dad are both in their golden years and they are both having health problems, it is so sad to see them grow older but I love them evan more. I hope that you all know that God will bless you and keep you safe as time goes by, it only takes a prayer
My husband passed away 2 months ago. We were married for 9 years and he was the only man I ever loved. This song describes me perfectly now. I am trying to be strong but I don't feel like myself ithout him.
@stonehenge913 @ I was married just weeks shy of my 10th anniversary when my husband died. I was 32, with 3 small children. I understand you're pain. Sending a hug and positive thoughts your way! <3
@stonehenge913 I'm very sorry for your loss, reading your post while listining to the song seriously made me shed a few tears...i always put myself in someone else's situation as it where my own...Really makes you see the finer things in life.I could never go a day without my husband.I could only imagine how you feel, stay strong hun...
True love. Blessing or curse? Both, been there done that. Wouldn't have it any other way. No pain, no gain. I am a better person due to those I've loved...and lost. Tell someone you love them today; those may be the last words they ever hear from you.
This song was played at our former parent's funeral an it reaches out deeply to those who think how we are all uncertain of what life will be like when the one you love is gone.
I heard her talk about this song when it came out and she said it was about her husband's parents.. the song came from the love she had for them and to help her husband deal with his own pain. I'm glad that you learned who it was for. I love her voice and this one will always be one of her best because it's true.
I creid when this song came out...little did I know this song would become a reality, My Dad died from the complications of Alzheimer's in 2003. Mom symptoms began showing in 2010. God bless us, all...
My mom had suffered a massive stroke after being in the hospital, then nursing home. One day I walked in told my mom it was time to stop the pain. 2 a.m. I got the call, she passed away. I sure miss my mom. Rest in peace Irene Q@@@n, from N.J.
Whenever I heard this song as a child, it always made me think of my great grandmother on my late father's side that passed away after having alzheimer's. The song was so touching it would always make me weep.
@riahlove94...my mother had Alzeihmer's. Sept 2, '97 she was in the hospital. I went in her room, looked at her and said "Mother, me, Stephine, Nathan will be alright, I know you're tired. I know you want to be with Daddy." Miraculously, she turned her head, looked me straight in the eyes, said "I love you" which I replied "I love you too!" I left after that and the next morning I got the call saying what, I couldn't tell you. All I knew was that my Mother had died. I'll never forget it.
This is one of the greatest love songs ever written. We had an elderly couple who had been married for a million years but couldn't be near each other without fighting. Made me so sad, then one day a new aide put him near her and she had "one of those moments" and gave him that loving look and they had about 15 minutes of holding hands before it overtook them again. made me cry and every time I heard that song I thought of that old couple and how they had that few minutes of love.
This was my grandmothers favorite song, everytime she heard it she would ge this beautiful smile on her face. She developed althhimerz{spelled wrong i know lol} and eventually forgot everyone close to her, including my grandpa. It killed him not to have her remember him. Anyway one day this song came on and she looked at my grandpa and got that look on her face and took his hand to dance and told him she loved him, and always will. Soon after her mind went and she passed away a few days later.
@1shortee I'm sorry to hear about your grandma...and congratulations(I feel weird saying that after that statement...but can't figure a better word...sorry) to your grandpa for getting that moment of clarity before she died. He got a small miracle...something I pray my grandma gets with my grandpa someday.
@riahlove94 Thankyou...and I agree about him getting a miracle. After it happend he kept saying she came back to me, my naomi came back with tears in his eyes. I think that moment of clarity from her was enough to help him when she passed.
Such a beautiful song -- makes me think of my own life. There is none of us getting younger. Some day you will ask yourself -- where did my life go? Seize the day and the loved ones you have....before its too late.
My parents died 24 days apart after 60 years of marriage. every time I hear this I think of them and just how close they really were. It has been eight years and I miss them as much now as the day they died.
This song makes me think of "The Notebook" and the love my grandparents have. It is beautiful and brings a sting of tears to my eyes almost everytime.
My grandparents were married 65 years this year. My grandma developed Alzheimer's and was put into a nursing home, my grandpa visited her every single day up until the day she died April 2, 2009, just a few days before their 64th anniversary. My grandpa was never the same after she died. Around last November he developed Esophageal Cancer he died April 26, 2010. just one year, and twenty-four days later. We played this song at his funeral. I miss them both very much.
first heard this when she was on The Tonight Show when this was released. My son was less than a year old and my husband was not a very nice person. Cried through whole song and almost every time I have listened to it since. Currently work on an Alheimers unit and it is heartbreaking.... =(
the first time i heard this was a few years after my grandparents had both died, 2 months apart. my grandma died first, exactly one week after her 78th birthday, & their 60th anniversary. needless to say, this song brings me to tears each & every time i hear it! ...but i love it. thank you, kathy mattea, for touching our hearts.
The first time I heard this song, I sobbed like a baby! I'm fighting back tears even now as I'm writing this. Of course I'm a sucker for a tear-jerker anyway, but you'd think I'd be over it by now! But, no... sniff...
Lost my dad, my best friend to alzhiemers /16/2008 and mom to brain cancer 10/22/2010. Damn this was hard . We took care of them at home. I love my wife . wHAT A BEST FRIEND. sORRY ABOUT THE TYPING, CRYING like a baby,
I lived w/ my grandparents in1989. Every morning while getting ready for school the local radio station would play this song. Every morning. At first my grandmother and I found it nice to listen to. By week 2 we had enough.
I moved away the following year but whenever I would see my grandmother she'd recite the lyrics, "Where have you been?..." It became our way of saying I missed you. My grandmother died in 2007 after a long fight with cancer. I play this song when I think of her.
You know I work in a nursing home. I have worked as a cNA for more than 5 years. I have seen married couples come and go. In the end they always know each other. Its amazing. This song reminds me of all those coupleses both that currently reside where I work nad those that have paased. I would like to dedicate this song to my aunt and uncle that are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversery in December of this year.
@vampyrekisses77 Actually, the proper grammar is, 'my husband and ME to a tee.' You don't folks to think that you don't know the correct English, do ya? God bless, my dear.
@DaveWollenberg ... Ummm... Did you even read what you wrote? I mean, I'm a huge stickler for grammar, but spell check, general sentence structure, and following one's train of thought are important too... Besides, I think she got her point across. Don't judge and criticize unless you want to be judged and criticized.

@Nightingale1831 - it is not correct actually...one would not say 'that song describes I to a tee', one would say 'it describes me to a tee'. When broken up, it should make grammatical sense, thusly, 'describes me and my husband', or 'describes my husband and me' is most definitely the corrct way. Well done DaveWollenberg, you get full marks for English Grammar.
This song reminds me of my dad that I lost to leukemia,he meant the world to me and I miss him with all my heart and wished he was here today. I just thank god that he gave me him as my dad, and so very happy that I was with him when he left us. Love you my Dad,and miss you so so much. I will always be the apple of your eye..xoxoxoxoo Judy
Of course i think of my wife who is my love and my angel, for these 24 yrs together and counting. But now I think of my wifes aunt and uncle, married 30 yrs before my uncle-in-law died at age 51 from cancer. They had no children. Their big house seems so empty now. I was one of the pallbearers at the funeral and we sat apart from our families, I was the only one of the pallbearers who was weeping.
Lost my friend and wife in may 2007 to lung cancer never day goes by that i do not miss her.She was everything to me,she brought me life and made me a better person She gone to a better place, she left me a letter stating she would wait for me ,i read it when times are tough .
i have met so many thoughtful people on you tube i just wanted to say thank you to each and every one, god bless you some times a kind word can go a long way.
@chopitshop You are more than welcome. if you ever need to talk, email me any time. it will be kept between us, thats what christians do. heymyjesusrocks2@aol.com. any time. god bless you.
@heymyjesusrocks2 thank you sometimes a kind word is all we need to get us back on track, we forget to let jesus take the wheel we try to do it all, god bless you my friend
@chopitshop any time. yes, we do get so frustrated with life sometimes, that we forget who gave us life to begin with....like I said, you have my email address, feel free to contact me any time, god has blessed us both, and any time you need an ear I am always here. god bless you. mh
Chopitshop- I have been there too. It's tough. I know how much your dad misses your mom, and how much you do too. Be blessed in knowing that some day they will be together again. I pray that God will give you the strength to take care of him. God Bless You.
@heymyjesusrocks2 thank you i know that jesus is with me to guide it gets hard sometimes, my dad has mental challanges he had brain damage when he was a jockey years ago he had a very bad fall and his skull was fractured and he cant read or write or even tie his shoes, he needs help with everything, but he is my dad and i love him as my mom did for 58 years
This song will always hold a special place in my heart, I sang it as a child it made me cry then too! My grandparents are now separated by death but not by destiny. I love you and miss you more each day!!
this song is so much my Aunt and Uncle .for the past few mounths they have been in the same nursing home and same room .He didn't know who she was but she did .she died of cancer today and he doesn't even know it .so sad but God will be there for all of their children and for Uncle Winferd ...love you all
june 2004 my grandfarther had a heart attack aged 88 and died suddenly,my nana died 3 months later of a broken heart she could not face life without him,her last months were in hospital,it killed me i knew what was happening and to watch someone die you love so much hurts ,this song is so special to me
love you both rest in peace my angels meet you in my dreams xxxxxxx
my mom was never sick a day in her live she developed stage 4 lung and livr cancer and died 7 months later dad was so upset he had a stroke that was severe he almost died they were both in the hospital she told him it was not his time but it was hers and she would wait for him they were married 59 years. he lives with me now and talks about mom every day and kisses her picture every night
@chopitshop well now that sure did make me cry = . . ( know that I just prayed for you and GBY for taking your dad in - - so many don't you both are blessed thats for sure= )
this is a beautiful song and Kathy has a beautiful voice. In my opinion, no one could have sung it better but I guess I am biased..I am a fellow West Virginian.
no doubt this is one of the most touching songs.i get choked up everytime i hear it.but the saddest song i ever heard is a song from john anderson and its called "till i get used to the pain". i had a broken heart in the early 90s when i heard that song.i only thought i knew pain. another is "down in tennessee."
I love this song. Kathy Mattea is one of the best perforners I have had the honor to see in concert.

I cry evertime I hear this song.
My grandpa has Alzheimer's, and seeing the way it effects my grandma....for her, I hope someday he gets a moment of clarity.
riahlove94 1 year ago
This was my grandmothers favorite song, everytime she heard it she would ge this beautiful smile on her face. She developed althhimerz{spelled wrong i know lol} and eventually forgot everyone close to her, including my grandpa. It killed him not to have her remember him. Anyway one day this song came on and she looked at my grandpa and got that look on her face and took his hand to dance and told him she loved him, and always will. Soon after her mind went and she passed away a few days later.
1shortee 1 year ago
@1shortee I'm sorry to hear about your grandma...and congratulations(I feel weird saying that after that statement...but can't figure a better word...sorry) to your grandpa for getting that moment of clarity before she died. He got a small miracle...something I pray my grandma gets with my grandpa someday.
riahlove94 1 year ago

I miss them both very much.

the first time i heard this was a few years after my grandparents had both died, 2 months apart. my grandma died first, exactly one week after her 78th birthday, & their 60th anniversary. needless to say, this song brings me to tears each & every time i hear it! ...but i love it. thank you, kathy mattea, for touching our hearts.

The first time I heard this song, I sobbed like a baby! I'm fighting back tears even now as I'm writing this. Of course I'm a sucker for a tear-jerker anyway, but you'd think I'd be over it by now! But, no... sniff...

I would like to dedicate this song to my aunt and uncle that are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversery in December of this year.

this song describes my husband and i to a tee
vampyrekisses77 1 year ago
@vampyrekisses77 Actually, the proper grammar is, 'my husband and ME to a tee.' You don't folks to think that you don't know the correct English, do ya? God bless, my dear.
DaveWollenberg 1 year ago
@DaveWollenberg ... Ummm... Did you even read what you wrote? I mean, I'm a huge stickler for grammar, but spell check, general sentence structure, and following one's train of thought are important too... Besides, I think she got her point across. Don't judge and criticize unless you want to be judged and criticized.

@DaveWollenberg its actually, 'My husband and I'
vampyrekisses77 was correct...
Nightingale1831 9 months ago
@Nightingale1831 - it is not correct actually...one would not say 'that song describes I to a tee', one would say 'it describes me to a tee'. When broken up, it should make grammatical sense, thusly, 'describes me and my husband', or 'describes my husband and me' is most definitely the corrct way. Well done DaveWollenberg, you get full marks for English Grammar.
