  • Wow Lifeson jammed it.

  • Alex Lifeson. Fuck yes <3

  • The white Marshall looks like Silver Jubilee. Same amp used by Joe Bonamassa. Hats off to Alex for the great rendition.

  • The "white" Marshall looks like a Silver Jubilee, same amp used and favoried by Joe Bonamassa. Also, Alex did a wonderful rendition of Jimi.

  • He again proved that even such a badass can take a backseat to keyboards.. for a while

  • Possibly the best version of watchtower I've seen....really quite inspired

  • Stunning, simply stunning...what's that white marshall in the back?

  • Horns are WAAAYYY flat! They should tuned before hand. makes everything else sound like crap at the end.

  • @mistarax I know

  • Alex once again rules the day.

  • @lastdaysguitar please< what are you 12, at the best he woke up drunk qnd played this, no big deal

  • I would rather listen to 30 seconds of Alex Lifeson than any other guitarist for 30 minutes. Any day of the week. Period.

  • Alex pulls off a great Hendrix! The chops are faithful to what Jimi version. I'm impressed here.

  • @pissballs i don't think so

  • @vox1003 shutup troll

  • amazing...so talented its SICK !!

  • Alex is Da MAN! But too many cooks can ruin the soup....

  • Lol hes so much cleaner than jimi.... it sounds good when alex plays it lololol

  • @jemmani22 you must be high its awful

  • @vox1003 your kidding right? jimi was great, but he always sounded so sloppy. alex is playing it very clean. unless you mean how it looks like its on VHS..

  • The most underrated guitarist ever, Fuck hendrix (OVERRATED) Fuck Page (OVERRATED) + Angus Young (OVERRATED)

Go Lifeson, Best guitarist in the world!

  • FAB!!!

  • HOLD YOUR FIRE!!!!!!!

  • There are guitarists, musicians and then there is Alex Lifeson!! To the earlier comments about Page and Hendrix, they were great, but Lifeson is head shoulders above them and anyone else....

  • @jtoshawa ya right they were just 30 years before him, they were pioneers

  • Alex is a bad ass blues player at heart. It's where he started.

  • alex is the man. i have not seen this thank u from a huge alex fan!!!

  • fantastic!!!go alex!!!!!!!

  • a master among masters

  • Better than Jimi himself!

  • 20 more years of guitars in hands!

  • Alex is amazing

  • Alex is friggin' strong on this!!

    Jimi would be proud!!

  • But it's a Bob Dylan song.

  • What's that squeaking omg. Absolutely fantastic though.

  • There is no comparison between Alex and Eddie, apples and oranges. Eddie is a pure technical player who happen to have some melody, Alex is a feel player who happens to be good enough to enter the technical space. Eddie has never written in emotional space of lead guitar that Alex has. Technically Eddie is better, but what the hell does that mean anyway..

  • Alex has been writing guitar circles around eddie since the cradle. Long Live Lifeson

  • yeah, lifeson ftw. but Lifeson has a technical edge in chord structure and progression. i truly is the god of all things chords.

  • without quest KZ, I have always said Alex wrote the book on Chord voicings, he gets more out of 6 strings then anybody, including Page (Zeppelin Fans Shout Here!)

  • i'm a huge fan of Page but i agree with u here

  • Amen brother... I love Page to, but Alex is a monster when it comes to chord voicings. I'll take it a step further and say that the work he did in the 80's... Particularly Hold Your Fire is staggering if you delve deeply enough. I know people denounce that material because of the Synthed out nature and thin production, but the guitar work was miraculous.

  • Wow someone else who knows how great hold your fire is, I give you props. Alex has always been my favorite guitarist, love his sound, peace

  • You are so on the money about Hold Your Fire. He's amazing on that album.

  • I'm shocked. I wasn't aware there were many other fans of HYF out there, mission is amazing. OH, and coincidentally your bass videos rock, keep it up!

  • @xyz321123 technically eddie is not better like u said theres no comparison

  • Incorrect , EVH had one contemporay peer.........Rhandy Rhoads

  • Comment removed

  • Just a question folks? Who do u think is much better guitar player? Hendrix, Page or Clapton?

  • spacedrift2112, I'll go with Alex Lifeson!!!

  • alex lifeson

  • Alex LIfeson THE GREATSET GUITARIST TO EVER LIVE ON THE EARTH!!!!!

  • I'm with you RockinRuffalo!!

  • YESSIR

  • lose the headache inducing horn section

  • he could have done his own solo, instead of jimis

  • @mance02 he did pretty much, not even close to jimi's but close enough for people who don't play at all

  • haha the chick groaning alex's name at 1:03 is workin herself with a fat dildo to alex's awesomness

  • Big AL > Jimi > Dylan

Lets not talk falsely now :!

  • Hendrix < Lerxst

  • noel redding hated hendrix's version of this bob dylan tune so much that he went to the local british pub while jimi himself had to play the bass tracks.... this is a fact!!

jimi is actually playing bass on this track!!

  • @finalnexus Jimi also did the drums as well, he pretty well re wrote the whole song

  • haha the chick at 1:03 sounds like shes banging herself to alex's awesomness

  • alex is the coolest guy...and i haven't even met him

  • Bob Dylan wrote it. Hendrix did a cover.

  • heirofant69,eyeome,soccerdog007 = nothing

alex = still on the road!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Most definitely one of the most under rated guitarists about. Being in a band with Geddy and Neil doesn't help!

  • yeah totally right

  • Few things about this video, *Alex lifeson is the most under rated guitarist ever. * Does she really need notes to remember the words to THIS song..kinda lame. * The horns are out of tune. *Is that Michael Douglas on the acoustic? j/k

  • I agree with your comments. Lifeson is underated. Molly Johnson shame on you din't you use Dylan's crib notes in h-school. The horns are out of place and don't fit the song. The guy on the acoustic is Tom Cochrane.

  • IMHO if hendrix were alive today he should be covering rush too...

  • Wich song is this?, and from who?

  • Ladies and gentlemen, Alex fucking Lifeson!

  • Its Molly Johnson - they even say it at 0:05 and 9:03.

  • Never saw this clp before, holy crap I never knew Alex could play Hendrix like that! Sweet!

    Who's the gal singing?

  • Molly Johnson I think?

  • Serves the song perfectly as always! Lerxst was PWNing those Hendrix licks! Word to Alex, son!!

  • I meant to say Fuck you to thisbejoe.

    Not Lifeson.

  • All Along The Watchtower

  • EVH once said:

`` I wish I could play as well as alex lifeson´´, when the different stages album came out..pretty cool of eddie to say that of alex..

  • I didn´t know, that EVH is an Alex fan, but

there´s no wonder why! Would be interesting,

what Luke says about Alex Lifeson.

  • I was pretty surprised as well..I thought it was really a cool thing..those two were kickin ass in the 70´s and still are to this day..

  • No way...How cool! Alex is my favorite rock guitar player...I love EVH as well, but Alex is my FAVORITE!!!

  • he is my idol.

  • No Kim Mitchell?

  • i'm all banged up and stuff marty johnson seals and croffts alex big al it was the ever soul ever nearing and the dawn and believing onsite

  • Are you a retard? This makes no sense?

  • If you think Lifeson has no speed, check out the solo on Anolog Kid off the Signals album.

  • All the saxes and stuff ruin it.

  • Yeah Alex is more of a complete musician and has explored more musical territory. Much more intersting compositions and chord progressions. Sometimes I think EVH has never got away from adolescent rock. He seems so gifted but never stretched out musically. He comes up with really good riffs for the tunes but nothing that intersting musically overall. He doesn't strike me as near as disciplined as Alex.

  • By the way, Alex rips through this Hendrix tune flawlessly and seemingly effortlessly as well, just as one would expect from him. Could he be flashy? No doubt about it, but he's said expressly that he is bored with the notion that every song must have a solo.

  • EVH is superficially flashier than Alex with his tapping technique, which becomes uninteresting very quickly and this is why virtually no one does it anymore. Alex's playing has far more depth and complexity with its variety of styles, chords, progressions, etc. I don't think there's anything EVH does that Alex couldn't do if he were interested in playing that way, but EVH is not thoughtful or musically developed enough to play like Alex. He's about tricks, not depth.

  • I think EVH is probably more of a gifted player than Alex as far as things coming easy to him and having all kinds of speed and playing ability and at just popping solos off the top of his head. I think Alex has kind of developed himself more as a musician and stretched himself musically a lot more. Eddie always struck me as having a lot of talent that was never really tapped...like he never really ventured far musically. I don't know...does anybody else see it that way?

  • evh by far created more guitar wannabes then anyone else in the buisness. however you cant compare the two alex is more versatile but eddie has that incredible speed no other guitarist has ever had. evh was great for guitar he invented the two hand technique and made more kids pick up a guitar then anyone else. if it wasnt for him many of the modern guitarists you see today would not exist. Sadly alex lifeson was not that kind role model.

  • Steve Hackett was doing the two handed stuff back in the early seventies check out "Dancing with the moonlit knight"

  • Alex is awesome...always contributing to charity events!

  • This video is so cool! I didnt know Alex was involved with this! Alex tears it up!

  • high alex, i am here too, with laurie johnson, she's soo cool with that. psst. hey alex, deflate your astrnaut suit and take your diaper off... this is it , 2008, reflate

  • does not ephilosopy leave all the readers brooding? brooding where? brooding in the tower or all along the watchtower Aristotle?

  • what the fuck are you all talking about? lol

  • no, 14ths and ninetysixtths and velcomastah

  • progenitor, dear alex, mood 4 a day

    watch?v=hZKFynkGE18&feature=related

  • Eddie Van Halen has said that Alex plays chords that he's never heard of. A common joke between Eddie Van Halen and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top is that Billy will ask Eddie, "Hey Ed,....Have you found that fourth chord yet?"

  • I'm not sure of the context, but its sounds like Eddie was paying Alex Lifeson a compliment.

  • Van Halen pisses off so many people that's why he can't keep singers or bass players.

  • id rather listen to RUSH than anything else mostly...

  • Alex is so much more versatile than most people know! He never plays like this with Rush! Of course Rush is Rush and it just shows that Lifeson can do even more than what he does with Rush! One of my favorite guitarists and bands!!

  • aye what's up with the video quality?

  • its from '94, it has to be from VHS from TV

  • Lerxt! You are the greatest!

  • Yeah, an incredible player who has elvolved so much. A player who has been willing to explore other avenues unselfishly! His combination of lead and rhythm are arguably the best ever!

  • evolved as a warbly marble

  • hah EVH best? do you know anything?

Lifeson isn't the best but hes under rated, unlike EVH.

People who don't know much about guitar think Eruption is the best piece of music ever :|

  • SHUT UP ASSHOLE ,LIFESON IS THE BEST,,HVH is complitely overrated,,so go to hvh youtube to watch that crap

  • well there is joe satriani, steve vai, paul gilbert, yngwie malmsteen..which shred more than EVH

  • you all know nothing about guitar!!. LIFESON has his own style, nothing compare to others. Just listen RUSH.

  • shut up asshole.. IF god become a guitar player for sure become ALEX LIFESON and not a drog man like EVH

  • finally...finally...finally...some people who dont worship the throne that eddie van halen has been put on!...im not really sure why he is worshiped so...he was great for about 5 years tops from 78 -84...hes been playing the same solo for 30 years...no contest between the 2

  • Lifeson and John Petrucci are most definitely the greatest guitar players of all time... >.> i dont even know who EVH but it sounds like some crappy band probably... judging by the other comments

  • EVH Eddie van Halen. If you've never heard of them you can't be a lover of guitar music. Shame on you. Start with Jimi Hendrix then discover Vai, Satch, Petrucci and then go back to Hendrix because he is the ultimate guitarist and musician.

  • *smacks self in the head* duh its eddie van halen x.x i just now noticed that. I thought it was some initials for a crappy band. Yeah van halen is great, along with hendrix and satch.. vai's good but he's a dick

  • EVH???Are you kidding or just stupid? If you play all of his solos since 1978 it's the same friggin' solo. Just different tempos and different keys.

  • I agree 100%. EVH played himself into a corner with his style and never evolved. Lifeson has evolved year after year and though he may not shred like Satriani or Vai, he's a better, more original player than both. Lifeson is the best. Most good guitar players know that.

  • Alex has more signature solos per songs than Van Halen does. And no two Alex Lifeson solos are nearly the same. Rush has put out twice as many albums as Van Halen and the only line-up change was when John Rutsey left and Neil Peart came in over 30 years ago. Clapton was Van Halen's hero. Alex Liked Jimi Hendrix and Pete Townsend.

  • Lifeson is god and his is the king,so stop comparing Lifeson with a crap like evh,,evh should take some lessons with lifeson

  • yeah, have you heard the solo in spirit of the radio? major shreadage.

  • You sir, or either full of shit or you have no clue what you are talking about.

Have you ever pulled the sheet music and studied the solos?

Maybe you should before you spout off what you have no clue about.

  • Yes Jimmys music lives on! Alex good job mate!

  • proves on this showing alone lifeson is the best, hardly looking at his prs. natural talent.

  • Lifeson just loves to jam! He's a naturally born and truly gifted guitarist. He steals this show!

  • Perfect with very little imoprovisation, I knew he was the best!!!!

  • cool to hear alex play a little hendrixy style

  • Great performance !
